Title: HDMI on the PS3
Post by: Animal Mother on May 10, 2006, 05:32:17 PM
hey everybody, its been a while. Anyway, i have a flat panel HDTV, but it has no HDMI, unfortunately, it has DVI, which is the same thing, but without sound. I know the format is compatible, and connectivity can be easily acheived with a HDMI to DVI cable, while doing optical audio seperately. I will prolly shell out $600 for the loaded version (i\'ll be sorry if i dont), but what i am afraid of is if i use a conversion cable, HDCP might now like it, and quality of blue ray movies will be downgraded. is there anyway of finding out if it will be or not?

My friend has the same dilemma. I\'m afraid you\'ll have to wait and see.

How old is your set?  You can probably look in your manual and see if it is compliant.

I\'m in the same boat.  I\'m up shit\'s creek.

It will depend on whether or not the \'downscan\' broadcast flag is set on the disks you purchase.  Sony has stated that they will not set the flag, so their blu-ray movies will be HDTV even down to component....  For other release groups, it will be company dependant, and you have to check whether or not your TV supports HDCP at all...

my set is about a year old. i bought it from circuit city. ok, here are some of the specs 32" 16: 9 HD-widescreen LCD TV/monitor;
DCDi by Faroudja smooths diagonal edges for a film like response;
1080i/720p/480p/480i digital compatibility;
Progressive Scan;
DVI with HDCP input;
that right there made me happy, but i know if the signal isn\'t 100 percent, it will throw off HDCP. thats why i am worried about getting a conversion cable, because it might set off HDCP. is there anyone that has tried this with a HD-DVD player or something?

Get a premium quality conversion cable from http://www.pccables.com and it should work just fine
