So I graduated yesterday, very stoked about beginning a new life. :)
My aunt & uncle (only living members on my dad-side of family) came up to visit/celebrate etc. Anyway, will sitting down with dinner with them, they told me about my inheritence. Apparently when my dad passed away, he left me everything he had left, his house, car, coin collection, and a very large sum of money. I never really knew my dad, I was too young to remember him before he passed away. I knew I was going to receive something after I turned 18, but not to the tune of this.
So my entire life has changed. The current value was at 407,386.50. It is held in several bank accounts, and some invested in the stock market. My uncle is an executive or something for 3M and knows how to invest very well.
Anyway, I just thought I would share the news, I don\'t really know what to think. In a way, I am very excited that I have received something so amazing, but at the same time it just worries me having all this money- especially since it is now signed over to me, (I still have my uncles advice/help on investing, etc.) but I must take care of it myself.
Deep in thought.... and extremely shocked...
-
Wow...that is pretty cool. You now have quite a bit more responsibility. Manage it wisely.
-
I was reading the fine print and it turns out that I am actually his long lost son so the house, car, and half of your inheritance goes to me.
Contact me ASAP!

I do belive he has some viking in him.... so I get.... atleast the car.
Anyways, congrats I suppose, graduating and getting stuff outweighs a death in the family.
Bitterweet moment I guess.

Quite a graduation gift!
Be smart. That\'s right in the cushion between a lot of money and easy to blow it all. Be smart with it and you\'ll be able to do a lot of nice things or live very comfortable later on - or both!

First of all spudz, congrats!! Sounds like your Dad worked hard and wherever he is, I bet he\'s hoping you get enjoyment and security out of this all.
Secondly, I\'ll echo these guys in saying Play it safe!!
$400k may sound a lot now, but in the long run it\'s peanuts. It\'s your responsibility to make something out of it.
Not sure if you\'re gonna go deep sea fishing again with that loot, but I would recommend you stay busy and active, and that means getting a job. A smallish 1-week vacation to the Bahammas/Europe may be a good idea, but don\'t get lazy. :thumb:
-
What do you think your dad would have wanted you to do with it?
That\'s what I would use it for....
-
I do plan on keeping in close contact with my uncle, and eventually begin to understanding investing and money management/business enough to manage the estate myself.
I only plan on spending the money on a college education. I am quite set on being a journalist, having written/editor for the school magazine, but I plan on taking alot of business courses as well. I will be going to UAS here in Juneau.
And yes, my family is French-Canadian, and Norwegian. We all speak like the characters from Fargo... (where I was born :) )
Actually I bought myself a camera.. Nikon CoolPIX P1

Blow it all.
Get a 9 - 5 job.
Kill yourself.
Best advice I have.
-
Don\'t forget to develop a number of drug addictions.
-
go to college, regardless of how much money you have
you\'de be stupid not to
-
I was goona say you probably blow that on weed in a couple weeks
or you can do what any real man would do and spen it all on hookers and blow

*drunk pisint to follow, be aware*
Okay, I should say, as a fairly consevative guy, I never got more ... fun and action than I did after I bought myself a condo and actually decorated it liek a house (as opposed to a student ghetto). Buy a house, invest the money, and just choose yoru fuckin\' carrer. Maybe even travel a bit with the cash, after all, I\'m sure that\'s what yoru dad would have wanted (you to enjoy the money some). Better to enjoy now than wait till your 65 adn can\'t remember shit ro wakl.
PS. Cougar bars are wierd at first, but really fun in the long run! (FatalXception\'s Life Tip #1)
-
gimme the coins. keep the money.
-
Hey congrats on both accounts.
keep the money wisely invested and go and further your education
Dont invest in anything named enron
-
For god\'s sake don\'t invest in real estate right now unless you are trying to throw your money away.
DO invest in your own education.

What\'s with people posting drunk? *cracks beer* And don\'t point out I do it on a regular basis :shy:
Spudz, I\'d take a few thousand and enjoy it. Go out with some friends and go on a little trip. But do invest in your future. Get a good education. If I got the money like you did, I\'d blow some on one hell of a party, buy a house or condo and then a car. But then again I do some stupid things with my money, lol. Most of mine goes to food and beer.

Tama.... pfft.

congrats on your fortune....and definitely do the college thing and invest wisely...you could actually drop 10 grand in the oil market and just watch that take off since that\'s what\'s pretty hot right now....and buy you a sweet ass whip...nothing super expensive,..but i\'d be thinkin\' a sweetass g35, or that chrysler 300 with 22\'s on \'em,...pull up to tha club or to any mall and just watch the thongs magically levitate into your passenger seat...:fro:

Neither was I. Its called a joke :p
A dude friend of mine had a minicooper for a while before he got his own car (borrowed it). We were planning on picking it up and moving it to the middle of the lacrosse field. Everyone pussied out except like two of us.
-
First thing I\'d do? Get the fuck out of Alaska.
-
TRU DAT!
prolly a nice place to visit, but I\'d go crazy living there. Not enough stimuli.
-
Now Chizz... What\'s the difference between Buffalo and Alaska besides the vistas. You need to get the fuck out too.
-
No. I plan on staying in Alaska the rest of my life.
Although I do plan on trying to find some sun. Maybe Tahiti. :)

Good luck with that. They weigh more than you may think, which is part of the problem with that car. Approximately 2,700 pounds curb weight.

Well then you\'ve pretty much just halved your money.

How can a car that small weigh that much? But if you get like 6 or 8 guys, i\'m sure it isn\'t too much of a problem.

yea i was say the same thing Vid stated,..leave santa and his little elfs up there and head south...but heading down to tahiti should be good for some thong snappin\' :fro:

What is it with you and thongs...
Would you like me to buy you several hundred of them- because if it will make you stop, then I definetley would.
And I don\'t think a trip to Tahiti would cost ~200,000.

as long as those thongs are accompanied by some sexy thighs and hips....
-
You can go on an awesome cruise for a couple grand... You could take two for a couple more. Bring a babe.
-
Make this money work for you and try your best not to work at all. Screw school and just do what I dream of doing everyday . . . NOTHING!
By the way, congrats and I would be lying if I told you I wasn\'t boiling over with jealousy. ;)
