Title: Same Same-Sex Marriage Debate
Post by: Ghettomath on June 05, 2006, 02:41:23 PM
http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/06/05/same.sex.marriage/index.html

With the War in Iraq, rising gas prices and the ayatollah of Iran threatening the witholding of oil, why the hell is the Republican party focusing on this non-issue again?

You can\'t tell me mid-term elections have nothing to do with it. What better way to get the conservative base riled up than by starting a good old scare of homophobia?

The issue isn\'t even going to pass. Aren\'t Christians beginning to feel exploited yet?

I honestly don\'t care about gay marriage. My conservativeness tells me that it should be for a man and a woman. However, I do believe that they should be granted the same rights as married people to adopt. I\'m more for Civil Unions. However, my more socially liberal side tells me that gay people should make the decision to make their own lives miserable by getting married ;)

My guess as a non-american?  You gotta keep in mind that the US is still almost 80% christian.  heh heh Nubmers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States).  Even the crazy-ass born agains are like 25%... and they\'ll vote on a single issue.  It just makes sense to make that issue one that the Dems cannot possibly get a vote on.

*holy fuck (BLASPHEMY!) Ican\'t make the slahs-url command work right.  I think I\'ll go to bed and edit tomorow.

Don\'t know where they get those numbers from. And more than half of those are just flat out lying about their religious affiliation.

Yeah, but you can\'t assume that all Christians are going to vote the same way.

Here\'s a more accurate stat: http://www.bpnews.net/bpnews.asp?ID=23295

According to the Gallup poll, 58 percent of Americans oppose same-sex marriages, BUT only about half of all Americans actually want to amend the Constitution to prohibit it.

This, again, pits Americans against each other. Why is the Bush Administration selecting issues that most greatly divide the country?

This is simply a bullshit ploy to draw more religious kooks and other (normally non-voting) right wingers to the polls. It has nothing to do with what the MAJORITY of the nation is interested in. See the following Gallup poll:

http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MDc2NGU0YmMzZTViZmRkMDJlYmI1NWYxMDdmNWY4YWQ (http://corner.nationalreview.com/post/?q=MDc2NGU0YmMzZTViZmRkMDJlYmI1NWYxMDdmNWY4YWQ)=

From a new Gallup poll, taken May 22-24, with results from an identical poll

should be top priorities for the president and Congress to deal with at
this time?"

"Ethics/moral/religious/family decline; dishonesty; lack of integrity" gets 1%

Core, that poll you posted I pretty much agree with. This is not a priority of our country. The war and other shit needs to be dealed with first. Leave the gay marriage to the states. They don\'t seem to have anything better to do than restrict smokers by putting a cigarette tax that is completely retarded, raising the driving age to 19 and lowering the god damn speeding limit to 55 because Corzine thinks people will actually fucking listen. Ofcoarse I\'m talking about New Jersey. God I hate Corzine.

i posted a thread about what that a**hole is doin up there....he lowerd the speed limit back down to 55?...that\'s just to catch more speeders and to generate more revenue,..cause i know NOBODY does 55 on any highway....as far as the same sex topic goes?..i was always convinced that the people in congress are complete idiots...the fact that they are pushing this issue over more important issues further strengthens my point...what\'s the use of voting when these f**kin retards are gonna do whatever they want anyway?...it\'s pure bulls**t...and marriage should be between a man and a woman period. i\'ll go as far as recognizing civil unions and that\'s it...

No, that prick is trying. If he does lower it, I\'m gonna go to the Thumwacket (or whatever gayass name our governor\'s mansion is) and smack him with a road sign. I was on the Parkway a week ago and people were flying down that on average 80. The 55 probably is to line his own pockets with.

Wait, I\'m confused. People in Congress are idiots because they are saying same-sex couples shouldn\'t marry, yet you think marriage should only be between a man and a woman?

Which one is it?

im also i on the butt budd..i mean "civil union" opinion\'s side.

Im also not all angry at congress about how theyre focusing on gay marriage instead of the war and gas prices. 1) what can they do about the war that they havent already tried..and what is something they can do NOW..might as well do stuff like baseball steroids and gay marriage 2) theyre rich..they dont care about gas prices.

and the iran thing is being addressed..didnt iran respond er something that is helping the situation?

they\'re idiots because there are more important issues to worry about. and my whole opinion on the gay marriage thing is that i will only recognize civil unions at the very least...but it seems that this issue has been decided already...read..

I think a compromise could be made in this situation. Give them a similar ceremony and benefits to fullfill their needs but call it something different. Or completely change non-religious marriage to a different name or something. Idunno. Its late adn don\'t feel like thinking about htis but a compromise could be made.

How about let them get married and the rest of us mind our business? I realize gay people are a minority, but minorities are allowed to have rights. Right?

As long as they\'re not dirty dirty immigrants.

It\'s a lifestyle if you believe it\'s a choice.

Or, if you know better, you know it\'s something you\'re born with. Like genes or race.

Perhaps being black is a lifestyle.

I don\'t know if comparing homosexuals to blacks is a fair debate. What, then, would someone who is black and homosexual be? Doubly a minority?

Regardless if you consider homosexuals born with a gene or practicing a "lifestyle," the movement within the administration is still discriminatory toward a certain group of people. The amendment would limit their rights as Americans.

Do you know that if the amendment passed, it would be the FIRST time in the history of the Constitution where America limited the rights of the people?

It depends on how you define marriage. I personally define marriage as between a man and woman. But I do think they deserve rights. When states ban them from adopting, I think that\'s wrong. I think they deserve all the rights as a married couple. But calling them "married" is kinda weird to me. I\'m all for civil unions though. But then again, like I said, I\'m kinda stuck on this one. They should be able to make the decision to be completely miserable for the rest of their lives but then again by my definition of marriage, they could get a civil union and be miserable :)

Why can\'t the butt buddies just have civil unions? It\'s not traditional marriage, and its a slightly different way of life so why not embrace their uniqueness about being different and settle on a different name?

Fucking hypocritical conforming homos. It never ends!

Maybe I should of worder that a little better...instead of referring to anal intercourse in that manner...meh.
