Title: How much does a trip to Italy cost?
Post by: Viper_Fujax on June 15, 2006, 12:17:34 PM
I\'m just brainstorming right now and i know theres a few people that travel around here.

Im thinking about going to italy in either 2 summers from now, or waiting till I graduate from college. Im just curious how much i have to think about spending for something like this? since the furthest iv been is chicago, and that was when i was young and thought money grew on trees.

I have to research a crap load because im now even sure how housing and stuff goes in traveling. Like if i change hotels every few days depending on where i am, if i buy train tickets to get around, etc.

I\'m thinking the biggest cost should *hopefully* be the plane trip.

Maybe some Euros can chime in.

why do you want to go in the first place?

it will be very expensive
plan on at least 2k including flight and hotels for a week, not to mention food/travel while you\'re there

Lol... why would anyone want to travel you mean? I hope that\'s not what you meant.

Unless you\'re homeless you can afford to travel. I mean, in the span of a year I\'ve been to the States for like 4 weeks, France (Paris), New Zealand (5 weeks) and Fiji (1 week). And I\'m going back to the States next year.

Just live in hostels and you\'ll be fine. The plane ticket will be the single main expense, but if you book ahead it\'s not that bad. I got to New York from Copenhagen and back for like $270 each way.

I don\'t know recent plane ticket prices USA - Italy, but i\'ve been to Italy multiple times and i love it. It\'s one of the main reasons i love Europe.

- the Toscany region, country side ; gorgeous landscape, beautiful vineyards. Though, i can\'t recommend it to party people who like to go out alot. For that, you need to go to the big cities.

- the city Florence (in the provence Firenze, the region is Toscany) ; one of my favs. great culture. The Duomo, Palazzo Uffizi, Palazzo Strozzi, the Rialto bridge etc.

- the city Venetia (in the provence Venetia, the region is Veneto) ; i went there twice. The Italians put in great effort in recent years to keep city maintenance high ; since the city is prone to it\'s water situation. San Marco Polo is worth it to visit although it seemed smaller to me than postcards suggest.

The smaller city of Verona is also in Veneto region. At it\'s piazza Bria is the opera collosseum where i saw the Aida by Verdi being performed. Impressive stuff, if you like classical music.

- Rome ; I\'ve only been there for 5 days but maybe that was enough already.
Impressive heritage like the Collosseum and of course the St. Peter\'s baselique & the Vatican. Rome is VERY touristic though and not cheap.

I can also recommend the Garda lake and many towns around it. Locarno is also a pretty cool place to be. The Marmolada mountains ; nice hiking trip. * edit ; how could i forget Pisa !? Hahah, the Pisa tower is fun !

I still need to go Naples, Milan etc.

Anyway, imo, Italy is :thumb:

there was a movie that came out in the states called hostel,..it was a horror movie that took place in some foreign country,...i\'m wondering now if that the name of the movie is symbolic to hostels you\'re referring to,..and if it is, that hostels place has some fine women over there...:fro:...at least accordin to the movie.......pretty nice breakdown there knotter...:thumb:

Too bad such movies give hostels/guesthouses/pensions a bad name. They\'re actually good alternatives to pricey hotels.

Italy ; a few thousand years of cultural history. Not to be underestimated.

3000? That seems pretty cheap for a trip overseas. It cost like that much for our familie\'s trip to Disney world last time and that was like 10 years ago.

Hehe. A few (like 20 or so) people in my graduating class went to Italy and Greece last year as a class (my lit teacher took them). I didn\'t sign up. It was only 2000 or something low like that. I regret not taking advantage of that. My parents said after I decided I couldn\'t afford it that they would have paid for it. Oh well. I want to go to Rome and Pompeii so I should have gone. It was select by the teacher but he loved me so I would probably have gone. Maybe I can convince my parents to fund me a trip for graduation of college in a couple years and I can take a female friend...hopefully girlfriend or fiance.

Thanks for the info though..Ill probably decide where im going to go a little later, decide how long i can stay based on how much i can spend. Probably the big places. I need to talk to my grandma to get a hold of my relatives over there. I guess they live an hour north of pisa..in the mountains. just looks uber green on google earth, lol. She said before theyd welcome me in since im family.

Yeah but with Cerb, I get to receive once in a while. You don\'t want to give it to me.

Wow, that was actually quite disturbing. That\'s definitely in my top 5 most creepy posts on this board.
