The only reason rappers care about Cristal is because it\'s the most expensive. If something else comes along that costs more, that is what they will elevate in their songs about how rich they are and how many chicks they have and now much respect they get. It\'s completely stupid.

i agree with you to a certain extent core, but all people no-matter what ethnic group you\'re from care about the latest and greatest, whether it\'s champagne or a corvette, even tho people can get another brand with similar value, some people will simply go with the most expensive brand because they think it is better....as far as the women and respect thing goes, that has always been a benchmark in the rap culture,...i can also state how some deep heavy metal bands produce music like they\'re worshipping the devil and prop horns on they\'re heads like they\'re his spawn...it\'s retarded as well, but it\'s music....
anyway that wasn\'t the point in how rappers project themselves....the point was that regardless of whether you\'re the owner of a huge champagne business or a small business owner, people from all walks of life support your business, and even tho jay-z\'s boycotting of cristal most definitely won\'t put them out of business, it sends a strong message that he doesn\'t need them or their products...that comment should have never have been made,...at least not publicly...

I mean, they probably (definatly) have a marketing strategy and thus the \'surpricing\' love from rappers who talk about killing, tits and ass and all that, is probably not what they want to be associated with. It\'s a business tactic and doesn\'t really have anything to do with being racist.

He didn\'t even say his new customers would be detrimental. He said "That\'s a good question." he was speaking hypothetically.

Why would a company say their product is too good for someone when the company is getting a huge revenue from said group of people? I read the article. It seems to have just been taken out of context. Money is money. I don\'t think the owners of the company are complaining as long as there is a steady flow of it.

as far as kanye is concerned....now i agree with you there,..sayin\' stuff like "bush don\'t care about black people" then havin him hold a bottle in his hand with a big-ass smile on a billboard or in a mag, i think the stocks would fall off just a bit...:D...kanye\'s music is alright, but when he made that comment, even i was like "what were you thinking?".....

Cristal IS A HIGH LEVEL CHAMPAGNE. It is supposed to be distinguished by class and sophistication. It is champagne! It is not meant to be chugged at the club or poured on a naked girl.
The CEO is right. It is horribly publicity for it\'s champagne. I\'ve heard of it...even without Jay-Z. It does bring down the champagne level a whole lot.
It\'s like the Escalade. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE NOW. Not because the people can afford it, but because their living in shit houses but driving an expensive vehicle. I see it all the time in Dallas.
Rappers are all full of shit and themselves. It\'s not a "culture"...if anybody considers random sex, diamonds and the adoration of expensive cars a "culture"...then they have serious problems.

oh i wish we could stop all the mexicans from drinking our product, but what can we do? we can\'t stop them from buying it....i\'m sure "quevo"(tequila) would love to have their business....see how that sounds mystiq? if anybody made that comment whether they were black or white you would say f**k you! and not order any more of that companie\'s product...whether me and my menz are sittin around kickin\' it or whether you\'re at some black tie event...it doesn\'t matter who purchases it and he shouldn\'t worry about what types of people purchases it...i can\'t believe just repeated what i stated earlier,....my brain is fried now. i\'ve been up all night(work) and i just don\'t have the energy to entertain this anymore.... at least not right now.....

just what I would say. Some people in that "lifestyle" glorify sex & violence and demean women. If some sleazy druggy rock band sang about cristal I\'m sure it would be the same thing...
But sleazy druggy rock bands sing about Jack Daniels, and I\'m sure they\'re fine with that.

I think Jay Z is right and has a very valid point. Hip Hop is what brought Cristal to the mainstage.... and you don\'t bite a hand that feeds you.
It will be interesting to see if a boycott has an effect. I hope it does, i would love to see a corporation backpedaling and trying to appologize and make ammends.
I never tried Cristal, I do enjoy Dom though... IMO when it comes to Champagne... the drier the better

So, imo the CEO makes it pretty clear that he\'s less than happy that his brand is possibly publicy associated with these hip hop artists as clients.
That\'s a clear distinguishment. Now...this statement of his is not racist as far as i can see it. He does clearly not like his brand to be associated with this hip hop scene ; so, this concerns both black AND white hip hop artists.
It\'s not a smart move by Jay Z to (over ? ) react to this in public print. He could just quit buying this brand. Nonetheless, the CEO does seem bit like an a-hole ; the kind of guy who thinks he\'s better than the people he just doesn\'t like because so and so. The "Mr-know-it-all" type.

Actually, if I made a product that is supposed to be about class and status. That is supposed to be only opened at expensive parties and sipped not chugged...I would say the exact same thing about people demaning and not appreciating the value of it.
I think the CEO CARES about the standards of his product. It\'s the investors that don\'t give a damn.

mystiq still misses my point a bit, who said they were actually chuggin this stuff down? all jaz-z states in his songs in general is that he has cristal when he\'s out..he\'s never stated that it\'s to be poured on dancers or chugged down at all....what i do agree with is that the hip hop culture is actually waay overrated,...the average rapper cares about nothing and no-one but himself....half the stuff from rap today is garbage..i grew up in the run-dmc- biz- mark- guuci rap- big daddy kane era...some of those cats were still kinda raw, but the music was just better and actually fun back then..now every other word is bitch this or i\'ll kill you...it\'s really taken a strong nosedive south...see how easily i can that?,..but at the same time i could clearly see that this ceo was being an asshole..maybe i was slighty bein too strong with the racist statement, but let\'s be honest,... to me he was indirectly talkin bout the "black rappers"...he just stopped short of actually sayin\' it...
i gotta address what mm stated as well...jay-z and alot of rappers do exploit black folk quite often, which is something unfortunately will never change and sadly these rappers are too dumb to realize it...that\'s why groups like tribe called quest, common, qtip, and a few others don\'t get any airplay...if you\'re not degrading women or talkin\' about killin\' somebody,...no radio station or producer is gonna entertain the thought of listening to your music.....like always i try to see the views of both sides, and while i tend to try to defend black folk when somebody makes an insulting remark, on the flip side of that while they are talkin about killin each-other and degrading their own, i never hear black folk come out and speak against it, yet when a white person yells nigga or nigger black folks are up in arms...sometimes when i watch some of these videos and now that i\'m actually reflecting on it,..sometimes i wonder are we ever gonna get it right....:(
