I have been playing this game for 2 weeks,
alas, the stuttering & laggings have dampen my willpower to carry on.This is not just an ordinary, ocassional stutterings we are talking about. Its frame skipping trauma where i have to wait 1/2 a second or more when traversing the road a million times. The worse case happens in the area just outside of Skingrad.
Previously,I expected that the hardrive can clear this problem, but it didn\'t.I even clear the cache every time when i boot the system.
Why do the developers fail to prioritize gameplay over graphics?.I would rather have a jaggie Oblivion with 2d trees(without wind) running smoothly without the horrible stutterings. Heck, even the psx Kings Field runs without lag and demonstrate smooth combat. How am i suppose to do combat in this stuttering state? They should have put the game "text based only" in order to save the framerate & the game.
I bought a 360 just to play Oblivion,it seems that the game delivers only half of its promise, i think i would be keeping the 360 in the cupboard for a while until another great game emerges.Im thinking of releasing my ps2 to roar once again, that Dawn Of Dreams,Onimusha with its multiple character customization mode, sleak fighting looks tempting.
Good day mate!

I am playing Oblivion on the Xbox 360, and I think I have not experienced stuttering as bad as you described. I guess you might call it "ordinary, ocassional stutterings."
Try disconnecting your network cable from the Xbox while you play Oblivion. It makes a BIG difference.
-
WHy would you need to suffer from any lag on a console game? I can understand on a computer because they have no clue what you are playing on at home, but not a console game.
-
Clean the cache also. Read something in EGM, I think it was about how with it loading / steaming stuff to the HD it can start lagging. Suppose to be a patch for that tho\'.
Oh and if anyone buys a 360 for Oblivion, well, they\'re an idiot. Play it on the PC, don\'t buy a console for it.

What if their PC is slow, LiC?
It\'s pretty demanding. Kicks my 6800GT\'s ass a bit.

My guess if the PC is slow, you upgrade it ;)
-
I just don\'t find the framerate to be much of a bother. I get stutters, mostly in outdoor areas, but the games huge world is still a blast to discover, and after 172 hours I am still finding new crap to check out..
Cleaning the cache doens\'t do much at all IMO. It\'s actually an exercise in futility IMO.
I\'ve had my best reuslts by unplugging my netowrk connection. The game had a habit of freezing during loading if the live connection was up, but they\'ve seemed to have patched that. However loading in general is quicker without the network connection on the Xbox 360 IMO.

By the time you spend 500 on the an Xbox, 30 on a memory card and another 60 on the game. I am thinkin that most people could of just upgraded their PC.

in some situations. Like my computer, I just need a really good video card to get a big increase in performance. So for me, itd make more sense to get a video card. But some people need a big upgrade to run games on high, like they are on the 360 (probably a little worse..havent seen the 360 version), which would cost a lot more than $700..another cost to getting the 360 is the second controller which costs like 40 bucks.
But, the thing is is that you dont have to upgrade a console. Iv always wished that future games on PC that were too high i graphics for my computer could at least look like games now (which isnt bad..but always with new games on low graphics, it looks like shit..just how it works). but with 360, the worst it will look like is what it looks like now. And the graphics are going to get better. Look at the first ps2 games.

Wow...where do you buy your stuff? $500 for the Xbox WITHOUT a hard drive?? The thing has an MSRP of $300 and you can already find it for less than that depending on where you look...

XBox 360 (with hard drive) = $399.00
Oblivion = $59.00
Memory card = Not necessary with hard drive
Total = $458.00
The Xbox 360 console is then usable for other games over the next 3-4 years (or more). If you upgrade your PC now, some parts may be obsolete in 2 years, requiring another upgrade.

Ddaryl, did you ride the horse or you fast travel? The heavy hiccups occurs when you ride the horse. The screen freezes a moment and then recovers. It seems to repeat this process for every 50 meters you cover.
The mages guild quest when you got to meet Janus Hassildor\'s assistant on the Skingrad road, that part is unplayable.I just shield all the way and let the count do the killings because my attack buttons will not register due to the excessive stutterings.
By the way, i am not in the network and have no plans to go online.
-
Doesn\'t change a thing.
Buying a console for one game that is a PORT - is idiotic.
And don\'t you have to be online to get the patch? If so - then you\'re crippling yourself from any MODS and fixes.
-
Waspman is the first individual I\'ve encountered who bought the 360 solely to play one game. I agree, that is too much to invest for one game... however I think even he will find a few other titles to make it worthwhile soon, such as Gears of War.
-
halo was actually the main reason my brother got the 360..but like core said, he knows of future games to look forward to like lost planet and gears of war.
But he also got it so he could have next gen gaming until maybe the ps3 dropped in price if he decides to get one.

If there isnt any other way for someone to play it why not?

My horse was slaughtered, so I just run aboot (<-- that\'s Canadian for about). I have enough agility through enchantments and experience, plus speed potions that allow me to run faster then most horses in the game. I defintiely get framdrops, but I don\'t find the game unplayable. I\'d prefer a steady framerate, but the game itself is to big for its own good. Scale back draw distance and textures and the framerate would be better, but then the game wouldn\'t look as wonderful as it does in the stills.
I fast travel most of the itme, but I do go walk about when I need alchemy ingredients, and quest items of sort. I\'ve been going walk about more lately as I try to discover things I hadn\'t discovered yet. Plus I need 20 bear pelts.
For the Skingrad mission I believe I had the same problem. In any battle where there is lots of action on screen things to tend to slow down. I just worked around it. Outdoor battles defintiely are effected more so.
Attack buttons not registering I believe has more to do with your skill levels and fatigue levels. As you increase weapons and agility skill, or use lighter weapons and armor, and then add enchantments to your weapons and armor that increase agility, blade, and/or armor your attacks becomes quicker. There are what appears to be delays in the commands because you are not skilled enough to perform so do to lack of experience your character has. You will become more powerful and have quicker more damaging attacks.
My character didn\'t really start to get powerful until level 20. I am now level 34 and don\'t have much problems with any enemies.
My character is Dark Elf, Level 34, 172 hours of game play, birthsign Apprentice, custom class Powermage. I am a master of Alchemy, Light Armor, and Conjurgation. I am a expert in Destruction, and Blade.
I actually tried to make my character look like me.... I\'m such a geek, but I couldn\'t resist since the character modeller part of this game is very robust.

here\'s my character at level 1

Ddaryl: That was a nice idea to make your character look like you. I probably spent about an hour building my character, and then just got fed up and accepted it. I couldn\'t resist the temptation to create a chick, but when she\'s in combat, she grunts with a man\'s voice. It\'s kinda weird.
I bought the horse armor, and my horse is still alive. I remember once a troll was beating on him for a little while, but he survived and recovered. I guess the armor is pretty good. I did find that heal spells like "Convalescence" do not work on your horse. You just need to take a night off in town, and you horse is usually healed by the next morning.
BTW, what do you need 20 bear pelts for? Sheesh, they are so heavy, I haven\'t been bothering to collect them, and I know I couldn\'t carry them around. I\'m only level 13 right now.
-
If you get kicked out of the Fighters Guild you have to give them 20 bear pelts to get back in. I think I got booted while doing the dark brotherhood missions. My best guess is that cause I had no idea I had done it.
-

I\'m not the one paying $500 for something that costs, at most, $300...

You have read that Sony is selling the PS3 at a loss, right? Nice try, play again sometime.

What the hell are you talking about? The guy said an Xbox 360 core cost $500 to the consumer, I said it cost $300....who said anything about the PS3?
Lol....and you said I\'M on crack?
-
I was actually referring to the crack part as you saying you can get xbox 360 for less than 300.

For me it is for detruction magic training quest. Vy the time I get all 20 bear pelts I\'ll be a master, but I\'ll complete the mission.
You need lots of feather potions, feather spells. I have 4 different feather spells I can cast on myself and they all add up. I also store all of my stuff in my Bravil house.
I also store all my potions that are worth more then 70 gold in a trunk in my house. I store ingredients for making potions in another cabinet. I have a plethera of strong potions I\'ve yet to use, and a ton of ingredients to make more. Not to mention a large assortment of enchanted armor and weapons stowed away.
I have 2 other houses in Anvil , and I believe Chorrol. I hardly ever go there, but they are missions completed.
-
don\'t mind them, vcize
it\'s the classic game of "no, your console sucks" that they play.
-

Ah, got ya, I thought you were referring to something else.
To be fair though, I got my platinum (with hard drive, wireless controller, etc) for $342 shipped after tax from Overstock a few weeks back, so it\'s not inconceivable to find a similar deal on the $300 core system. In fact it was on slickdeals a few days ago for $239, though those sold out quite fast and it\'s not the norm by any means.

342 on Overstock? I wonder if I can do that with PS3 and sell them for MSRP value.

It appears that you can order the XB360 CORE system for $239 here:

Yeah, I would be hestiant to buy from them. I guess we\'ll find out soon when we hear whether some other people got their orders.
-
mm, where do you find that stuff?
-
Probably a whois search on their domain name.
-
Good stuff Ddaryl, the game moves faster when i mute the voices and songs. Its better this way, i read that Dark Elf has high resistance to fire, have you tried choosing The Lord Birthsign and see how fast the HP regenerates?.Im tempted to restart but seeing im finishing the mages quest, i might as well finish this game before starting another.

The $342 on Overstock was about a month ago, so not around launch time. They had it on sale for $380 along with a 10% off stackable coupon.

Sweet. I found the info for this site without a problem. Time to bring down my enemies, muahahahaha. Say, mm, do you have a personal website i can look up? :p

I left voices and music on, but maybe I\'ll mute the music. I like voices.
Dark Elf is fire retardent, but I choose the apprentice birth sign and haven\'t tried any other charachter. I don\'t know if I have the resolve to actually finish this entire game. It\'s huge.
