Iv tried out all three of them, mainly demo\'s. But i only want to get one (dont want to spend a bunch, but i feel like having a new game)
Quake 4: I loved the single player demo, and the multiplayer was fun but i could see getting tired of it. Anyone know how the rest of the maps are? I\'d mainly buy it for single player, but single player doesnt last forever like multiplayer can. Im actually leaning towards quake 4, seeing as it is 20 bucks. I also never got into quake, so i know the multiplayer is probably the same as always but i rarely played the other quakes...so its not beaten to death for me
F.E.A.R.: Im probably going to re-download the demo, because it looked like sh*t on my last setup, but i think the only difference was I had one gig of ram instead of two..wasnt really a bad setup but it just looked really jaggy and laggy for some reason so i didnt really try it out. Main thing that drags my computer down is the geforce 6600 128mb.
Half-Life 2: Looks awesome. That boss-ish guy that looks like a huge spider looks great. My brother has the full game, but i got bored with it. I only got to the part where ur on that craft that drives on water (cant remember the name) but it was just too slow. Does the pace pick up? Never tried multiplayer out, but it looked like it feels like quake 4 but with weaker guns.

HL2 single player was one of the most enjoyable games I\'ve ever experienced. I have a hard time seeing the other two games coming close to HL2. If you only got to the hydrofoil, then you missed a lot of cool stuff. Once you get inside the alien portion of the city, and use the gravity gun in full charged up mode, it gets pretty crazy. In addition, you get Counter-Strike for free with HL2. That is the best multiplayer game of all time, period.

see now you had me going till the last sentence, lol. sounds good though...
i re-downloaded fear..graphics are a lot better, but i suck balls at the game..probably not going to get it.

I enjoyed fear, but HL2 was amazing. I couldn\'t stop playing it until I finished it. I was actually thinking of going through it again but I just dont\' have any damn time to game anymore.

does HL2 have starforce/need a cd key to play single player?
Because my brother has it, but i think i remember not being able to install it. Usually games just need a cd-key to play multiplayer, but i think HL2 was more strict with that kind of thing. Would be nice if it wasnt since i doubt id play much multiplayer on it..havent really been in the multiplayer mood for a while now.

None of the above?
:)

Half-Life 2 requires you to have a steam account.
I also vote for Half-Life 2. Yes, it does start a bit slow (a harsh criticism) but it gains more and more momentum as you progress. Basically every-time you get a new gun, the game gets taken up a notch. The second half of the game is nothing short of amazing. Running through the streets and ruins alternating between machine gun(s) to take out soldiers, and bazooka to take out the spiders and helicopters (forget what they\'re called) with three team-mates at your side is absolutely heart-stopping.
Best game of this generation.
The low points of the game are definately the vehicle runs, which are fun, but they simply drag on too long.
-
HL2 fo sho. It has the best mix of gameplay, graphics and "mod-ability".

Understatement. The vehicle levels are the reason I never finished the game. I made it to the second one and lost any interest I had in the game. It sat like that for a few months and then I finally un-installed it.
Quake 4 suffered the same problem as Doom 3, a piss-poor engine that brings most systems to their knees.
F.E.A.R, never played that. Never had any interest.

HL2 was the 2004 GOTY IMO, hands down.
Does that answer your question?
-
heteros everywhere love HL2!
;)
I agree though, the vehicle levels do drag on too long. Just do what you have to do to get past them and get the gravity gun.

Not saying a lot, I can\'t think of any other game that was worth mentioning.
-
Aww, LICky, you missed out. The second half of that game is poetry-in-motion.
Considering I\'m not the most avid FPS fan, I think that\'s fairly high praise.
-
That, and the vehicular parts (while weaker than certain other sections) are still among the best vehicular segments to appear in the genre.
2004 brought a lot of great games and a lot of competition in the FPS genre. Far Cry, Doom 3, Metroid Prime 2, and Halo 2, among other FPSs. (yes, D3 sucked... but still!)
-
decided on HL2..probably getting it tomorrow.
quake 4 was a close second but SP seems like itd be too short and not that replayable after i beat it. I do like how you can upgrade weapons through SP though. maybe ill get quake wars when it comes out.
-
Yeah..HL2, a very nice game.
Although I probably won\'t finish it because i get nausea from playing it.
I tried altering FOV in command console, enabeling vsync, setting my monitor to 85hz... none of it really helps. Even short periods of play get me a headache..ugh...
-
Only FPS shooters I have ever completed was Quake (PC) and Quake 2 (PSone).
Yeah, I rock.

LiC: That explains a lot. :)
Different strokes.

Many people are like that actually. I think if you play the Prey demo your brain may explode :)
-
iv never been nauseated by a game. I heard condemned made a lot of people sick. Is it the motion of the screen?
Prey demo was decent..had some really good ideas but it (already) had too much of the same in the 3 er 4 demo missions. The walking upsideown thing was a great idea, but its used so much its like..whatever. Didnt really like multiplayer..was a quake paced game with weaker guns. The guns are cool in SP though..theyre like living creatures.

The full version is good, i\'m enjoying it anyway. The abduction at the start is wicked.
