Title: Laptop stolen
Post by: Phil on July 28, 2006, 11:54:04 PM
So last night some fuckers broke into my house and stole my laptop along with my roommates laptops and probably got 15k dollars in electronics.  Yay for living in cincinnati.  So yeah, you guys probably won\'t see me much for the next couple weeks.

They knew the combo to the lock that held the spare keys on the front door (the landlord had them there for the electrical company so they could have access to the basement).  So either it was the landlord himself, one of his buddies, or someone that works at the electrical company.  Yeah, I have insurance but it\'ll be at least a month before I get a new laptop, and I can\'t recover all my artwork I had saved on there :(.  The cops are investigating the whole situation but who knows what they\'ll find if anything.

I was ripped off in college.  Our whole row of apartments was.  Thanksgiving weekend when everyone was away.

I made out like a bandit though.  I had a couple hundred CDs I got 10 bucks a piece for and an old Brooks Brothers suit I got 1500 for that I would never have worn if my life depended on it.

It\'s still wierd thinking someone else was in your house going through your stuff though.

I doubt the cops will find anything. They rarely ever do.

Yeah, I\'m moving at the end of august.

Apparently they have video of the guys at a local UDF where they used my roommate\'s credit card.  They also recovered our bookbags.  I\'m still not getting my hopes up about my laptop but it\'ll be nice if we catch the bastards.

Oh and I\'m getting a nifty $2200 check in the mail from insurance so it looks like I\'ll be laptop shopping here in a few weeks.  Any suggestions?  I\'ll be looking to spend in the ballpark of 2800 on one seeing as it\'ll be used to do a lot of rendering/photoshop work.

that\'s a pretty bloated budget for a laptop.  You could get a great lappy for rendering photoshop for under 1500... but then again I don\'t have a 2200 check in the mail coming my way either ;)

I\'d wait a few weeks if you can for the Core 2 Duo to come out.  Outperforms the Core Duo by about 15% or so and isn\'t any harder on battery life.

I\'ll be using cinema4D as well plus it would be nice to have a good gaming rig set up too seeing as I don\'t have a home PC nor would I have space for one.

Speaking of which, someone broke into my car lastnight, went thru everything and TOOK NOTHING.

Fuckin\' illegals, I bet.

Seriously though, it\'s creepy beyond belief. To know someone was right outside my door, while I was asleep.
