Title: Government removes a tax on DSL. Verizon adds surcharge in that amount.

They lobby to have their industry deregulated to \'save money\' for consumers. Read above, but basically they get it deregulated and then say that developing this new \'stand alone\' service has cost them money. Ugh.

Post by: THX on August 21, 2006, 08:16:11 PM: haha kinda funny actually. Hate it or not it\'s a smart move by Verizon. No one gets charged more than they were before so complaints will be minimal. They get some extra revenue so hopefully service will improve, benefitting the customer in the end.

It\'s annoying, but if I\'m Verizon, I\'d do the same thing - tho maybe for half the fee so customers still saw a decrease. Then it\'d be more money for me plus happier customers.

If business are allowed to get away with things like this, you will be taken in simmilar ways all the time, because nobody really has time to be researching every little charge/bill they get from all the numerous companies they deal with on a regular basis.

Companies are obligated (often under the law, and by shareholders) to do everything possible to maximize profits, which is why they will take advantage of ignorance and loopholes wherever possible.

Circuit City (http://kotaku.com/gaming/top/sleazy-circuit-city-ripping-off-xbox-360-customers-198065.php) is trying to charge people $30 USD for a service that\'s already free. Ugh.
