Title: uhm..if it walks like a duck...
Post by: clips on August 24, 2006, 03:25:56 AM
y\'know, the majority of the time i\'m against stuff like this...BUT i gotta be honest who is most likely to do something like blow up a plane?...riiight...these extreme muslim fanatics, i don\'t fly on planes like that, but if i did and if i saw a muslim of middle eastern decent come on board, i\'d sleep with eye open, and if he or she pulled any kind of stunt, i\'d be ready to knock him upside the head with a pork chop! seriously tho..i don\'t fly much if at all but i do have family members that do,...and i\'d ever found out one of these clowns pulled another stunt that almost went down in london, i\'d personally want to bust a cap in that ass....it may be wrong, but it is what it is... now these people get a taste of what afri americans go thru on a daily basis....

They have been doing it for years now.

One comment I thought was halarious about the guys pulled off of that diverted plane yesterday.

I think it was either CNN or Faux(FOX) news, according to passengers they noticed something was wrong when one guy unbuckled his seatbelt when the seatbelt light was on..lol..I do that shit almost everytime I fly. Paranoid much?

I guess arab/muslim types can\'t unbuckle earaly anymore...rofl sux for them...hahaha

I\'m not sure if this is the right thread for this article, but I found this interesting.  The recent security threats to airlines were not very great threats at all, but they have been played up for some sort of PR value.  Our reactions to the threats have granted the terrorists a victory of some sort.

I like the idea that all of us: individuals, press, and political leaders, should collectively ignore the terrorists.  Their cause and their goals become meaningless if no one listens to them or pays attention to their actions.

Quote
The point of terrorism is to cause terror, sometimes to further a political goal and sometimes out of sheer hatred. The people terrorists kill are not the targets; they are collateral damage. And blowing up planes, trains, markets or buses is not the goal; those are just tactics. The real targets of terrorism are the rest of us: the billions of us who are not killed but are terrorized because of the killing. The real point of terrorism is not the act itself, but our reaction to the act.

And we\'re doing exactly what the terrorists want.
...

Imagine for a moment that the British government arrested the 23 suspects without fanfare. Imagine that the TSA and its European counterparts didn\'t engage in pointless airline-security measures like banning liquids. And imagine that the press didn\'t write about it endlessly, and that the politicians didn\'t use the event to remind us all how scared we should be. If we\'d reacted that way, then the terrorists would have truly failed.

It\'s time we calm down and fight terror with antiterror. This does not mean that we simply roll over and accept terrorism. There are things our government can and should do to fight terrorism, most of them involving intelligence and investigation---and not focusing on specific plots.

...

The surest defense against terrorism is to refuse to be terrorized. Our job is to recognize that terrorism is just one of the risks we face, and not a particularly common one at that. And our job is to fight those politicians who use fear as an excuse to take away our liberties and promote "security theater" that wastes money and doesn\'t make us any safer.

Mmmm the sweet smell of real and perceived bias in the media to polarize and distort reality and make political discussion meaningless. Yes, bring it on.

Ignoring them wont stop them either. They will just put on bigger and bigger theaters of destruction untill someone does.

Fighting with them is enternal as they will never stop being born. Short of the US trying to control the world like Hitler taking over any country we want, terrorism will never end.

I\'m not arguing that terrorist activities and our responses should be kept secret.  I\'m questioning our reactions to them.

Why do we have such irrational knee jerk reactions to every perceived terrorist threat?  Why do we ban bottles of water and hair gel in airline passenger compartments, while we\'re still not bothering to screen all luggage stored in the cargo hold?  We\'re doing this because it reminds people of the big bad scary terrorist threat, and increases their fear of a relatively unlikely attack scenario.

The resulting inconvenience for all airline passengers is a victory for the terrorists.  It reminds us that they\'re still out there and makes us reflect on their motivations and goals.  I\'m not afraid of them, and I couldn\'t care less about their goals.  That\'s for the law enforcement professionals to think about.  After foiling this ridiculous plot, the official reaction from the US government should have been nothing.

I\'m going to request bans for people drinking water while using these forums.

We already should have banned the people who use lotion while posting. GManJoe, for instance.
