Title: School shooting in Montreal Canada
Post by: FatalXception on September 13, 2006, 05:27:02 PM
STORY (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/13092006/2/national-gunman-young-woman-die-shooting-rampage-montreal-college.html)

[Cliff notes]
2 killed, 19 hurt as a trenchcoat wearing teen entered a college campus downtown and started shooting people at random.  He was shot and killed by the first few police on the scene, within 5 minuts of the start of the incedent[/Cliff Notes]

After learning their lesson from Columbine (the SWAT teams there are still outraged that they weren\'t allowed to \'go in\' while the shooting was ongoing), the first two police officers on the scene at today\'s tragic violence went in, gave the suspect one chance to surrender, and fataly shot him when he did not comply.  7 of the remaining 19 injured victims remain in critical condition in hospital.

Some of the eyewitness accounts were very chilling, there will be a lot of therapy needed for the next while.  Such sensless and random violence.  Ugh.

Montreal, Quebec.... Canada?

Wait, are you joking?  I don\'t get it.

Unfortunately f---ed up up sickos can be found anywhere in the world...  But it\'s the really f---ed up ones who go \'big\' that get noticed.

This is the third time that Montreal has been hit by this sort of nastiness (first was targeted attack against women at a university, killed 14, second was an engineer killed 4 colleagues who were \'cheating\' him).

oic.  I don\'t think I made such comments (kinda a long throwback reference for it to come to mind, even for the ones who said such things), and like I said, this is the third time a Montreal school has been the target of a gun-toting crazy.

UPDATE (http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2006/09/14/gunman-shooting.html)

[Cliff Notes]
Turns out he was a member of a website called vampirefreaks.com.  In the days leading up to this he posted chilling material (himself in costume, with gun), calling himself the angel of death.

Quotes he wrote included things like:
"Work sucks … School sucks … Life sucks … What else can I say?" he wrote. "Metal and Goth kick ass. Life is like a video game, you gotta die sometime."
[/Cliff Notes]

Don\'t you just KNOW they will focus on the video game part of that sentence, as opposed to the much more blatant anti-social behaviour (goth/vampire worship, piercings, mowhawk) he participated in.

What the hell is wrong with these school kids? Every year there is the same tragedy in the US.

Makes you wonder in what stressful enviroment kids grow up to end up like this

Looks like he wasn\'t even a student at the college.  A truly random attack against society at large.

These punks suck at mass murder.  He only got 2 kills!  Someone needs to teach these Goth kids how to do a proper doubletap.  :)

He was a depressed psychopath.

Way to go... Manson.  Nintendo. MTV. and... that\'s enough blame.

This is tragic, I hate these stories.

Well technically Canada is part of America, North America.

In other news, they arrested two kids who were stockpiling knives, guns, and "bombs" for a school attack. Somewhere in the States.  Caught them before they did anything, which is a nice change of pace.

Someone ratted them out.

Yes this is a tragedy, but last I checked there are far worse things happening in the world, its just we actually have a media and cameras to cover it rather than rocks and tablets in other parts of the world where the government is the media.

Atrocity of this sort is \'unusual\' in this part of the world.  It would take a greater atrocity to make the news in those parts of the world mjps21983, and when they occur, they make the news too.  This is not normal even for criminal behaviour here.

You may be correct, but this makes headline\'s for days yes it\'s a tragic thing, but because it was some white kid with a mohawk going down in a blaze of glory the media feeds this shit and the masses eat it. It\'s terrible what happened, yes the kid was fucked up in the head and should have just taken his own life rather than others.

just because only 1 person (who matters) died, and it happened in another country, doesnt lessen what happened. its what the media does..it reports stuff..they could just report the same iraq stuff theyve been doing for 4 years, and it only takes a few minutes to say there\'s e-coli in some broccli. This isnt every day news that should be looked over.

Just dont want fatal to think a school shooting is just tuesday to america, lol. It happens pretty rarely considering the last time (i think) there was a shooting here was 6ish years ago..but it only takes once to have a huge impact and make it seem like yesterday when actually years have passed.

We\'re getting away from this article/issue, and into a discussion of media, but basically the media is dependant on three things.  Time/Place/Audience.  If it\'s unusual in one or two it makes the news, in all three, it makes the news in a big way.

Time: Simple, What was normal 50 or 500 years ago isn\'t today.  Society changes rapidly these days, and even year to year, based on events, it can change.

Place: If someone murders a child in smalltown,  Kentucky, it\'s unusual.  In some parts of the world, unfortunately, dozens or hundreds of children are being murdered every day, for a variety of reasons.

Audience: Perhaps the most subjective but also the most important.  The news must be unusual to the people you show it to.  A sucicide bomber is a footnote to an audience that is detached from both the victims and the perpetrators, but a major issue if it happens in your city (to your family, fiends, society, nation).

It may be an inditement of modern journalism, but like most other industries, they are out to make money, and that invovles maximizing viewer interest and participation.  Very few North Americans would watch a three hour show detailing the daily deaths (including biography, backround, and analysis) of people in Iraq, but they\'ll watch a three hour special about a \'possible\' rapist close to home (Jon Mark Karr anyone?).  Very few iraquis will watch a three hour special on Tom Cruise\'s baby, or the latest hollywood fashions, but they\'ll watch three hours of religious discussion on the differences between Sunni and Shiite muslims.  It\'s not to say the lives of people in another location are less valuable, or even that it\'s \'right\', but it is the way it is for a reason, and you need to understand and accept that before you complain about it or try to change it.

I didn\'t have enough time to read all of the posts so I will just make my statement on the matter.

Some dumb shit who whines all day long about no one liking him because he ends up being a complete bag of douche gets mad when his sister stops having sex with him, he then turns gay but the gay guys won\'t go for him, then he fucks his mother and figures out he\'s a complete loser, then he shoots up a school like a bitch.

only in america
