bah...here\'s a really good thread on it from TXB: http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=469830

WOW THATS A MASSIVE LIST
-
Well, it is five months worth of games, give or take delays. Launch day looks to have about 15 titles available including (from the top of my head) Zelda, Wii Sports, Excitetruck, Red Steel, Super Monkey Ball, Elebits, Metal Slug Anthology, Tony Hawk\'s Downhill Jam, Madden NFL 07 and Need for Speed: Carbon.
-
lots of ports
-
point?
-
observation?
-
every system gets a lot of ports though minus ps, since isually the first place it goes but they\'re still ported games
-
It\'s almost too good to be true. Something\'s gotta give.
Anybody want to bet that, against all odds, the new Zelda will suck? No? Okay.
-
The Godfather is a surprising addition. Madden NFL will be more interesting than its graphically superior cousins, in my opinion. GT Pro Racing has potential and will ship with a steering wheel attachment to make the remote more like a wheel.
All neat stuff. (Unless they jack the price up for including the hunk of plastic in GT).
-
lots of ports
Correction, lots of last gen ports
-
But the gameplay would be different.
So I dont quite get the reason of debate
-
hokey controller != different gameplay
it\'s a new way of doing the same thing
-
I don\'t know, mm. I was skeptical too, but watching the videos and reading hands-on impressions... it sounds like the DS.
Another platform that has an innovative hook that will seem gimmicky at first, but prove itself through countless hours of entertainment. Although I\'m fairly certain that some developers will (as on the DS) provide only tacked-on uses for the Wii-mote.
-
you mean like all 3rd party devs?
-
Gotta agree, nothing new.
-
I hope not. If these games are boring for Wii, I can see myself getting out of gaming.
-
i don\'t think the wiimote will take a boring game and suddenly make it fun.
it\'s a neat trick, and some applications will make great use of it, but banking the entire console of its versatility is rediculous.
it\'s the defining variation from the gamecube
-
Besides the graphics, new games, extra features and online modes, yeah.
But I agree that a bad game will still be a bad game. But I\'m hoping that the controls will inspire new games that will be fun for new reasons. I consider Wii Sports one of those types of things, even though it looks like a common sports game. It\'s actually radically different with its simplicity and interface, and I look forward to multiplayer with that one more than anything else so far (on any system).
-
what graphics? what extra features? bringing online into the mix is moot, competitors have been doing it for years now. you can\'t pat nintendo on the back and say "welcome to the party!". even sony is having an online service, they have to because there\'s nickles and dimes to be collected from the gamers.
virtual console? nope
controlling sports games with a "3d" controller has been done already.
it\'s nothing new.
contorting genre\'s to fit that control method are, however.
-
More Features:

But yeah, it\'s backwards compatible with Gamecube, so it\'s as if they\'re the same thing, right?
-
nice flat textures on the "improved graphics" pic
if that all it takes to impress, i feel let down.
for your sake, i hope thats not in game
new features to nintendo != new features to the industry
rendering them moot
forecast channel?
-
All my points are showing you how Wii != Gamecube. I guess we agree that you were way off base about that.
-
i didn\'t say it\'s the gamecube
i said it\'s gamecube with a hokey controller
honestly, how much of that couldn\'t be done on the GC from a hardware basis?
why release a console that\'s like 10% better than the last one?
...other than because people will buy it because it\'s new (like ipods and cell phones, i know a dude that has like 5 of each).
-
why release a console that\'s like 10% better than the last one?
To compete with Xbox 360 and PS3 and to make money. I imagine that about hits it all.
-
well, our definition of "better" is just going to have to be vastly different.
-
Another platform that has an innovative hook that will seem gimmicky at first, but prove itself through countless hours of entertainment. Although I\'m fairly certain that some developers will (as on the DS) provide only tacked-on uses for the Wii-mote.
Lets be honest about the DS here, I don\'t know why people think the major hook is the stylus and the touch screen, but it\'s not. In fact, I can\'t explain the system\'s popularity other than Nintendo\'s marketing strategy being so Apple like in breakdown (And it has worked for them for years now with the iPod), but whatever the reasoning may be, the DS\'s best games or major blockbusters are games who barely - if at all - use the stylus and the touch screen to any true effectiveness. The only one I can think of that uses it well that is considered a great success is Trauma Center...
-
I would suggest that Kirby\'s Canvas Curse was another shining example of the stylus. And Brain Age.
But you\'re right, I\'ve often wondered about it, and I think of Mario Kart and Tetris right off the bat, and they don\'t use the stylus much at all.
-
Brain Age is a good one, you\'re right about that. Even New Super Mario Bros doesn\'t use it either. It\'s just interesting. Still though, I stand by my belief that Nintendo is the Apple of the console industry and they\'ll keep being that way for as long as they stand by the belief that innovation is greater than being feature rich. I just wish both Nintendo and Apple would wisen up to the fact that consumers would certainly love to have their cake and eat it too when it comes to all things included in their hardware lines. You can be both beautiful, feature rich, and innovative at the same time and there\'s no excuse for not striving to be just that.
-
I don\'t know, but if wii do have good adventure games that can fill the void of ps3 waiting duration, i\'ll get one .Im looking for games like Zelda but with a mature theme, i just can\'t tolerate silly cute looking enemies anymore.
Furthermore, the 360 in my room is idling since July.

If you own a 360, and this goes for anyone who does, this fucking statement does not compute.

Wow, no need to be so emotional.

Saints Row, Dead Rising, Enchanted Arms, Test Drive Unlimited, Lego Starwars, Madden \'07, Nintenty Nine Nights...did you try any of those? They\'ve all been released within the last six weeks.
-
and all are B level
-
No, just most. Most people thought that Ninety-Nine Nights was a huge letdown.
-

Yep, i\'ll be getting either Saints Row or Test Drive Unlimited. How is the framerate in Saints Row? Is it smooth, any stuttering when riding vehicle?
-
Wow, no need to be so emotional.
I wasn\'t at all emotional. It\'s just always interesting to me how people can ignore so many good games. In a lot of ways, it just doesn\'t make any sense. You spent 400-500 bucks on the system, might as well use it to play some of the library that\'s been released on it - even if some of them are "B-grade."
-
No, just most. Most people thought that Ninety-Nine Nights was a huge letdown.
Yeah, but I\'ve seen a few people who\'ve really enjoyed it. Doesn\'t hurt to try it out.
-
I\'m with mm on the b-level thing.
Saints Row is smooth tho i find the cutscenes are jumpy. I think it might be a glitch in their attempt at high def causing it, i dunno. But be warned, Saints Row is a GTA clone. It\'s more of the same. And the story line is weak so you kinda just go do whatever you want, unlike GTA where you knew what you were getting into with the story and different bosses and stuff..
It\'s not special.

Some of these games you mentioned arent worth much

Some of these games you mentioned arent worth much
They were suggestions based on new releases. Thanks for your opinion, and I\'d bet that you haven\'t played any of those titles. However, if you want to make a case out of it...
Saints Row = 8.5
Dead Rising = 8.3
Enchanted Arms = 7.6
Test Drive Unlimited = 8
Madden 2007 = 8.5
Ninety Nine Nights = 5.6 (yeah, that\'s bad)
*from IGN
Since when were average and above average games considered not worth much? I\'d say at least half of my collection of video games fall in the 8.x range, and there\'s even a few 7.x\'s as well. I\'d be willing to bet there\'s quite a few of those in your collection as well.
-
like i said, all B level
where\'s the killer app?
-
halo 3 and gears of war seem to be the main games to get 360 sales.
Dead Rising is pretty fun though. Madden is good but the no fantasy draft kills the replay value. NHL 07 looks really good too.
Right now, all 360 has going for them is price. After my brother leaves and im left 360-less, im really debating whether to get a 360.
I cant see myself spending 700 on the ps3, and 400 is very reasonable. And between GTA, resident evil, madden, nhl, and soccer, i could see me using the 360 a lot. Depends if the graphics (gameplay is going to be the same on both consoles..) and MGS is worth 300 extra dollars
and i realize this thread\'s about the wii but..who REALLY cares about the wii,lol
-
like i said, all B level

Gears and Lost Planet early next year. That\'s good enough for me. I\'m buying the PS3 in 2007 when MGS4 comes out.
-
personally, I think MGS4 is a little overrated...sure no doubt i think it will be a great game. But I am kind of skeptical about the storyline. In my opinion, HK kind of messed up the storyline of MGS2...not sure if he will be able to repairs it or makes it great for MGS4..

It is special to me,
Character Creation
Ability to Revive your allies
Health Regeneration
Better Animation and Graphics,Car Physics
-
just kind of scrolling through.... why did someone post a screenshot of Metal Gear Solid 1 from the PSX on a Wii thread?
-
The game gives you the freedom to be what you desire .Some guy just made a Chuck Norris look alike.

Unlike Oblivion broken aesthethic gameplay, i think Saints Row will deliver with solid, smooth gaming experience.

MGS3 was beautiful though storywise. I think that proved he could and can bounce back from MGS2. I don\'t see any reason for doubt.
-
oh cool that MGS3 have a great storyline. I wouldn\'t have know since I never play MGS3 before. If that is the case, it would be interesting to see how the storyline of MGS3 will do.
-
Thanks for proving my point
I asked you a question- since when are games in the 8.x range not worth much?
-
Probably since the majority of websites started giving out 8+ to any piece of shit.
And then when a website uses it\'s number rating system with pedantry, and gives a good game worth playing around about 7, they get bashed by hoardes of fanboys.
-

From what I\'ve read, both from online publications and individuals, those games listed that received 8.x\'s are solid and not just any piece of shit. If memory serves, as I\'m too lazy to look it up, Shadow of the Colossus received 8.x\'s. I suppose that\'s not worth much either?

Personal opinion for the win.
Choose the games you like.

I\'ll say that MGS3 is a much more difficult but more full and complete game than MGS2 ever was. Go ahead and pick up Subsistance and enjoy it to its fullest. The game starts off pretty difficult in my opinion but you eventually get the hang of it. The story is far and away 1000 times better than anything in MGS2. It rarely ever overplays its hand and becomes overbearing to the player. The ending is just... phenomenal.
-
I asked you a question- since when are games in the 8.x range not worth much?
A)I said some
B)Arent worth much means they arent anything special. Not necessarilly bad.
Although NNN has been over praised but ended up mediocre. As for Madden and TD dont define 360\'s quality games neither are a real reason to get an 360.
Not to mention that recently the media got even worse at reviewing. Your example also proves this.
Shadow of Colossus got an 8. So did Madden.
I only agree with Saints Row and Dead Rising

The only reason I mentioned those games were because he stated he hadn\'t touched his 360 since July. Those were the games released since then, and with respect to personal opinion I simply told him of the games available to him that he hadn\'t tried out. He already has a 360 so I\'m not sure why you brought up their system-selling quality? Your second hand opinion was not needed and did nothing but derail the thread.
It looks to me like NNN got the score it deserved.
Your point?
So what, and I bet you haven\'t played either one.
-
scores from the popular media are meaningless, for obiovus reasons
-
scores from the popular media are meaningless, for obiovus reasons
most are indicative of what to expect.
-
expect from who?
look at people like ryu that feel the FF and MGS series are the worst ever made.
people just like him work at the popular media sites
-
...did you mean LIC?
-
You must mean LiC. I like MGS immensely despite the fact that as a game there are a number of very big flaws. FF I can go back to, but it\'s going to take a really good version of it to make me look at it a second time. RPG\'s are dead to me, but I will try anything if it\'s considered really good and I wouldn\'t dare deny myself the experience of playing it at least once. Lost Odyseey just might tempt me back into the RPG realm, but my serious problems with the genre are numerous and it will have to overcome them before I welcome the genre back.
-
yeah, meant lic.
posting while drinking + steeler games = bad

Not necessarilly system-selling quality. Not all truelly great quality games sell or increase console sales. The point is some games offer nothing new or nothing extraordinary. Madden for example isnt leaps of what we have seen already from last gen. It got an 8. It doesnt deserve it the same way as other 8 graded games. It gives no real reason for someone who wants interesting and great games that define his new purchase to dust off his 360, unless that someone doesnt care much.
And I believe thats why these games didnt move Blade`s interest. Some of these are just ok titles, with nothing in particular we havent seen before. He could have stayied with PS2, XBOX or GC instead
-
Ratings don\'t mean much. They usually put a lot of words in the review too that are much more insightful.
I give most games an 8, but I grade on a scale of 1 to 7.

The quality of the titles was never meant to come in to the discussion! They were just a list of options.
If you\'re tired of your old systems (like me) then you\'ll look at your next gen options first and foremost. Good or bad, they\'re options. Your second hand opinion (being that you haven\'t played any of those games) is worth shit.
-
and your first hand opinion, having played said games, isn\'t worth anything either.

It wasnt ment to come in the discussion only for you because it doesnt satisfy your interest.
And because your are struggling to make a point here to no avail I ll try explain you again how relevant my point was by using your own statements. Getting tired of your old system is a result of one simple thing (thats why you contradict yourself) -> Getting tired of the old same formula. So why does someone buy a next gen system? To experience something new.
If you think TD, NNN, Need for Speed, Madden are reasons to look at next gen options to experience something different then you are fooled.
Also I wont tolerate such offensive comments. Even if you were the pope or the president.
My opinion (which is actually a FACT) is worth as much as yours if not more.
-
That was a pretty good post Uni, except that opinions cannot be facts. And that is a fact, not my opinion.
-

You are right. If you are refering to how I see specific games.
But I see it as a fact that people get tired of their old consoles and replace them with next gen ones to experience something more advanced or atleast different.
-

Again, you haven\'t played those games and you don\'t know their worth as next-gen experiences.
It\'s entirely subjective. Who the hell do you think you are to tell someone else what to think?
What are you going to do about it?
Opinions are never fact.
-

Notice I haven\'t said anything about their worth. All I did was lay out some options. You dimwitts made it more than that.

Where did I say that those games were good or bad, attaching any worth or value to them? I simply stated which games had come out. You, on the other hand, declared that some of those games aren\'t worth much. This not having even played them yourself, and as if it mattered what you think. I\'m sure there\'s been a game or two that you\'ve enjoyed that someone else has thought was mediocre.

Which was trying to point out the possible reason why Blade didnt feel interested, since "informing" him that games were released since then is stating him the obvious.
If you wonder why someone doesnt feel interested temporarily about his console just ask him why and what interests him.
Posting just any game that is released during a timeframe tells nothing. There are tons of games like these released every month If that was the case, we would have been buying whatever is released with an 8 score tagged and always feel perfectly satisfied.. Unless (As I said earlier) someone doesnt care and buys anything..
It doesnt end here. You are complaining that I made a big deal out of it. I just posted half a sentence.
After that you were trying to convince me using reviews they are worth. Well, its not my fault.
It seems that you were mostly offended about your console

After that you were trying to convince me using reviews they are worth. Well, its not my fault.
It seems that you were mostly offended about your console
It was your first reply. I don\'t care for your backpeddaling.
What it boils down to is that you are giving him some impression on these games when fact is that you haven\'t played them yourself. I haven\'t played them myself so I can\'t give a run down on them either. There\'s nothing wrong with listing options, but there\'s something terribly stupid about claiming worth on something you haven\'t experienced first hand.
It\'s not my console. Waspman made the reply concerning Xbox 360. I answered.

Yeah you dont care. Thats why the discussion.
I never playied spongebob either and (unfortunately) its one of the 100 best selling games. Your point?
You dont need a super smart brain to suspect that some people might be probably looking for something more remarkabke for their next gen console than the ton of rehashed/sequels-"I ve seen that before on my PS2/GC/XBOX"-8 graded games (or even 5.5? ) that appear almost every month under everyone\'s knowledge, thus the reason they havent chosen them from the beginning. We know they are coming out every month.
So yeah I made perfect sense when I pointed out there are possibly better games to suggest than just any game only to fill up the list.
No I dont have to play the NEW Madden or TD to atleast have an idea. And no, nobody needs someone in a forum to tell them "the new madden is out" to know its out. That alone should give you a suspicion why some of these probably werent counted from tha beginning as a good option....since July.

What was your point? Really?
I\'m not going to make that assumption. I don\'t know him. I don\'t know what kind of games he enjoys and I\'m not about to start guessing. That\'s not my place. It\'s not yours either.

f you wonder why someone doesnt feel interested temporarily about his console just ask him why and what interests him.

Ya think so mm?
Perhaps water is not wet. But only things that come in contact with it, become wet.
Water alone is just water.
-
..
Because that\'s assuming I have first hand knowledge of any product that came in to question. Or at least I wouldn\'t want anyone influencing my opinion who didn\'t have a first hand account. The best I could do was offer a list.
-
No its not
-
I\'m not going to stoop so low as to read a bunch of reviews for games I haven\'t played and offer my second hand opinion. That\'s just dumb.

But water is in contact with itself.
Thus making it wet.

Water isn\'t wet. Wetness is a description of our experience of water.
Thus wet is a label used in the english language to describe the sensory feeling caused by most liquids. Arguing that water isn\'t wet is stupid, can\'t really be made a case for. If you want to ignore the labels that humans have put on things to describe them, you shouldn\'t even be talking English.

To get back to a throw-away comment I made a week or two ago, I am interested in XB360 and the games you mentioned, Riku.
Just not that much, all things considered. Ninety-Nine Nights might be the GOTY to some people, but to the mainstream gaming press, it\'s a 6.3/10. Likely? Still worth a purchase, but nothing special. Lost Odyssey will probably knock its socks off.
