Title: Took the plunge, Hook line and Sinker!
Post by: NVIDIA256 on October 19, 2006, 02:09:14 AM
I was quite surprised myself, I hadn\'t really thought about getting a 360 until at least the next halo, but oddly enough this strong yet sudden urge of buyers impulse took a hold of me, and the next thing I know I was walking out of walmart with a 360 premium and 2 games(they came with system).

So far the 360 has cost me a little more then I expected.

$399 for the system
$39.99 for extra wireless controller
$59.99 Saints Row
$29.99 for Via VT6421L Sata/IDE controller
$64(shipped-Ebay) for a samsung SH-D162C(may have to buy another for secondary back-up)

a total of $584us. Not to shabby, however if M$ drops the price of the system in the next few months(which they might) I may have to pirate a few games to even the score /end sarcasm

Sadly I have spent more time ripping the 360 apart and tweaking the system to my liking, then playing any of the games.

As of right now I am thoroughly enjoying SR, my mates are hooked on it, plus after a few beers we dig the NHL game that came with the system.

Currently now there aren\'t to many games worth purchasing for the 360, but I am told that for the ps3 release we will see a good chunk of stealer games released by M$ What i would really like to see are games that start taking advantage of the 360\'s power.

So I was wondering for all current 360 owners, what games are you playing right now and what games other than halo and GOW are you anticipating for the near future?

Right now I\'m wrapping up Saints Row and the game I\'m looking forward to is Smackdown vs Raw 07.

I recommend King Kong for you. You might even find it cheap. It\'s short, but a lot of fun. Really well made.

I\'m also looking forward to next year\'s Assassin\'s Creed.

Dead Rising.  Get it, play it, live it.  If you\'re a sports fan, NBA2K7 is just... amazing.  Download the Lost Planet demo and play it.  You\'ll understand just how great the Xbox is after that.  Supposedly, Splinter Cell is decent though I\'m not a big fan and that\'s out this week.  Gears of War goes without saying of course.  If you have yet to, investing in Ghost Recon Avanced Warfighter is worth the 30 or 40 bucks you can probably find it for used.  If you like RPG\'s, Oblivion might be up your alley though I personally can\'t stand it but that\'s just my opinion.

That\'s pretty much all I can think of at this time.

If you want, you can drop about 22 bucks on Lumines and its first downloadable pack (f*ck you MS and Q Entertainment) on XBLA and play it in HD and 5.1.

whered u get a $40 wireless controller? I want one but 50 bucks is damn expensive..id rather get a game for 10 bucks more than a second controller.

Id want dead rising but..i cant see myself spending 60 bucks on it. Right now im just leaning towards Marvel and Gears of War. NBA 2k7 does look great, and im actually not getting bored with the demo (usually i get bored with b-ball games when i play alone), but again..60 bucks, lol. I can only really play splinter cell on PC, so im going to hold off on that.

the games i have are right now are madden 07 and burnout. Both games i play a lot. And u know what to expect from both the franchises so either u like those games or u dont. Can check out some threads below..

Games to look out for:
Rainbow six- I heard the demo is in the newest OXM issue and people say its great. demo should be on live 24th i think.
Lost Planet- Awesome
some other obvious ones..

Alot of recommendations for dead rising, seems I\'ll have to give it a rent. Is that the game I saw on TV with the guy running in the mall knocking the zombie\'s with the umbrella?

Wait a sec wasn\'t there a recent movie by this name, that dealt with a bunch a kids stuck in mall having to fight off all these zombies?

Right I remember reading at xboxscene that live would be down for a day.

SO viper what are the advantages of gold over silver, since i have 3 free motnhs of the gold service( i have to activate it still)

3 free months? nice..

u can play online with other people on gold. IMO, if u have the right games its definitly worth it. If u like shooters, u definitly need it. If u like sports games, you have to find the right people to play with or else it gets gay.

I definitly think its worth the 50ish bucks a year. Adds a lot more replayablilty to ur games.

50 is peanuts for a years service.

I know what you mean playing with little stupid immature 12 year olds is annoying. I remember when PC games in the last couple of years integrated voice communication. Most servers had to disable it cause drunk rednecks and toddlers would come on the mic to fart, scream, consistently call people niggers, play music etc....

The only solution was to ditch voice communication and make it privately run via TEAMSPEAK.

I see so silver only allows you to download content etc.. but restricts online play

Right, the only difference between gold and silver is online play.  Silver is free, Gold is a subscription.

Don\'t expect a pricedrop this year, however don\'t be surprised to see some great bundles.  The pricedrop is likely to occur next May.

Good guess.  That\'s what I suspect too.  Aroung springtime next year is where I think Microsoft will drop the XBOX360 price tag as by that time, they had already shrink the size of CPU from 90 nm to 65 nm with the same performance....maybe the 65 nm might performance a bit better and help prevents game crashes.

Ever-y-bod-ay! Do the Peter Moore mambo!

Just a side note, I upgraded to an HDTV today. A decision quite simply mandated by the X360.

30" Sony WEGA CRT. Supports HDMI and of course 720p.

Dead Rising (especially the cutscenes, I mean... Jesus) looks stunning.

for me it was nba 2k6 (and 2k7). Probably because iv played FPS\'s on decent graphics before i got the 360, but the nba games just look amazing to me. I swear if i space out looking at the screen, i think its an actual game for a split second. The mascot dancing around, the floor buffer guy, the guys on the bench, the players themselves. Crazy..Only basketball though cuz madden (while looking pretty good) has some work to do, especially with animations..they got down the qb throwing on the run, but the sack animations (or lack there of) are pretty bad. And the baseball game was a joke..i wish EA could still make baseball games..mvp series is great IMO.

as for graw..i honestly cant stand the people that play the game. Granted iv only played the demo (own the game on pc..regret doing that), but its seemed like all but 2 maybe 3 people are douchebags.

MGS2 did make it to the original Xbox, Viper. ;)

So we (X360 owners) might get MGS and GoW.

Bah, I preferred MGS2 to that crap heap. MGS3 had way too little Raiden, and simply not enough cinemas.

Or ingenious plot twists.

MGS3 was an abortion compared to MGS2. Ice cubes melting!

i was at the mall and strolled by borders and decided to pick up the OXM magazine with the rainbow six demo. Very impressed with it considering lockdown was a joke to the series. Its done on PC, and will never be back to that form, but the game is very solid. Its relatively difficult (minding the pretty dumb enemy AI that\'s always been in R6). Graphics are amazing but there are some spots where FPS\'s go down the pooper.

The lone thing im worried about is if there is 3rd person hiding view in MP, it will ruin the game. The camping will be 50 times worse than normal. I generally hate the console shooter community but i might just get the game anyway and play online. The 3rd person offline is great BTW, but my problem with single player is they use grappling, and they use it often..wouldve been a little more novel if it happened every now and then but they seem to beat it to death. But inverting urself while grappling is fun.

Just cant figure out how to tell my team what to do correctly (i send them into the open) and i cant split up the team right..if theres 2 entrances, i should be able to send my 2 guys through 1 way and me through the other but no luck.

edit: wow..i got the hang of ordering my guys..very awesome. You can Splinter cell peak into a room and assign who to kill first, second third; then u can set ur guys up in front of one door and you have the option of either busting the door open, flashing, or smoking, while you can either follow them in or use another entrance and attack from another angle.

Your teamates talk on their own too..some funny comments like "COVER ME!" (in a loud whisper) and the other guy said "F*** YOU!
COVER ME!!"

bahhh..the 3rd person hide thing is in MP...

I was thinking of getting a 360. But there is so much more I could buy with the money. And I haven\'t played a videogame in a year. There are some games on 360 that had caught my eye. I guess I will wait for the price drop if I ever decide to get one.

WTF, why do we have to have account regions in order to download a game.

Oh well, RYU when will the rainbow Six Demo be avalible in the US?

Next week.  OXM has an embargo on the demo until then (As it\'s included in the latest OXM).  Creating new silver accounts in different regions is both free and easy and gives you access to different games anyways including Tenchu in Japan. :)

when i first signed up with my 360 i was forced for US i think. There was timezone, but i think that was a different option. If you make a second silver account you it gives u the option of having a different region?

oh noes double post!....

marvel is a great game. If you liked x-men legends you\'ll love this game.

The beginning of the game is a little repetitive because you have nothing unlocked, including simple melee attacks..so u only have some generic punches. But it definitly gets better, and your special moves get awesome as you upgrade (iv only gotten the human torch upgraded a little bit). So far my favorites have been colossus, spider man, human torch, dead pool, and iron man. But i havent been able to try everyone out.

I\'ve been playing with a friend online, but it would be awesome to get two more guys to join along, so if anyone has the game and feels like joining us go for it.

Yes.  http://www.passport.com - sign up for a new e-mail account, activate it (by accessing it) and make sure it\'s in the region you want access to IE Japan or Eruope.  Then, go ahead and create a new silver account on XBL using the e-mail you just created and fill in the blanks from there.  Any address will do from a business that actually resides in the country you\'re signing up for.  That\'s about it.  It takes a little bit of time, but Rainbow Six Vegas now is worth every second of your time.

A couple of games to consider especially if you do decide to get the full Live service (which I recommend).
CoD 2 could probably be picked up for not much cash now that CoD 3 is out and it is a really fun game for live. The Single player is also very enjoyable on Veteran setting.

CoD 3 is visually more impressive but still has some gameplay issues in multiplayer which might be patched but imo, as of now CoD 2 is overall the better game, paticularly with the price differential.

I have GoW and have played a little of it and it is quite fun, and visually quite impressive, but if you do not play multiplayer, you might as well rent it as it does not take too long to complete the SP campaign.

I can concur that having played the demos of Dead Rising and Rainbow 6 Vegas that these are 2 titles that are really good, especially the R6 Vegas.

If you do get live I would also suggest downloading Texas Hold Em and Uno (unless you buy the Cam attachment which comes with a copy of Uno)
I know that they do not utilize the power of the 360, however they are great fun to play with your friends on Live when you are not in the mood for killing your friends and just want some light fun with a lot of laughs...and definently get the downloadable version of Texas Hold Em as opposed to the WCP version. Gameplay on the WCP one is awful and the sound effects are downright annoying. The only saving grace of that turd is that you can use the cam to import your face to your player and even that is iffy.

I have only played the demo version, but many of my friends that have kids having been having great fun with the Lego StarWars game for the 360 too. If you are a StarWars fan or have kids, that would be a worthy title to check out, at least as a rental. (the Demo of it is probably still available too)

My biggest recommendation though would be to get the Gold Live subscription, and get a friends list built up of people you enjoy playing with so that you don\'t have to play with the arses that make up the general population on live. It really makes the 360 gaming experience so much better, and many of the new games coming out, GoW (with Co-Op through out the full game), R6 Vegas,  CoD II and III are really going to be great for playing with friends, not to mention judging from the demo, Lost Planet looks like it will be really good for multi player as well. (you should check out that demo too if it is still available)

Edit: Oops I forgot all about Oblivion. If you don\'t have it for the PC, this is an incredible game for the 360.
