With next-gen consoles Wii and PS3 to launch soon, online auction site eBay hopes to reduce the fraudulent listings and unfulfilled orders that plagued the site during the launch of Microsoft\'s Xbox 360. Effective immediately, eBay has placed the following restrictions on pre-orders for Wii and PS3:
- Only one of each console can be listed per eBay account prior to the launch of the console (PS3 is expected to be available on 11/17/06, Wii on 11/19/06).
- The seller must only accept payment through PayPal, and have at least 50 feedback with a 98% or greater positive rating so that they qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection.
- The pre-sale item must be listed in the 3, 5, 7 or 10-day formats, and cannot use Buy It Now.
- The listing must include a photo of your pre-order receipt in the description.
Beyond outright scamming, hopefully these new restrictions will reduce the hoarding and price gouging that have become the dark flipside to launch frenzy.
50 feedback? At least this is only for selling pre-orders. Should be a different story with system in hand?

Toy R Us will be taking pre-orders for the Wii this Sunday at 7AM. You have to be there earlier. Hopefully, the eBayers and Nintendo fans will be killing each other when I arrive so I can take over the #1 spot.

smart move.

I\'ll just wait for my bro in law to buy a PS3, then sell it to me when he\'s broke....

Now that\'s a plan ;)

Yes. And it gets better:

Cliffs: EBGames and EBay are looking at auctions of pre-sales and cancelling the auction if it\'s an EBGames pre-sale.
Sony is in cahoots as well. They want gamers who want the system to pay it at cost and not have to pay scalpers more money first.

$9,100 for a PS3? Is this legit?
-
That can\'t be serious. Who would pay that much for a console? I guess people don\'t know how to be patient. I mean they\'ll be easy to get in a month or so and the same games will be out so what\'s the difference? You just sound like a moron when you say you bought a PS3 for 9000 dollars.

Unless they\'re uber rich and wipe their asses with Benjamin$.

Still though. I hope it breaks on them. Then they will realize how stupid it was paying 9000 dollars for a 600 dollar console. I find that funny.

$30,000

I think people type a high number to assure the win, not thinking someone else will do it too. So then they end up winning an auction they won\'t pay for.

I did that once. Some guy was selling a Mitsubishi Evo8 for 1 penny. I bid with $1.00 and no one else was bidding. I got scared after 6 days, I cancelled my bid claiming the car was Right Side Driven which is not suitable for the US roads. ;) Boy was he pissed.
Shipping was gonna cost $40,000!
-
Which is of course not allowed under Ebay policy. You can\'t have zero or very low cost items where they make both shipping and enough profit in the hidden \'shipping costs\'. You could have gotten out of it even had you won ;)
Oh, and sell sooner rather than later. They\'re sending out shipments daily, to the tune of 1 million shipped by Christmas, so I\'m thinking the price will drop.
-
yeah, i\'m debating dumping my 2 for 1.5k or so now. sony is claiming a shitload more will be shipped before xmas.
-
Do a 3 day sale and you\'re safe, mm. You\'re almost guarranteed to get at least 1500 dollar profit.
-
Keep one and sell one - think of it as a free PS3 plus extra cash for games and accessories. You could make another $1000-1500+ profit, but you probably make that in half a month anyway. Enjoy having (and using) your PS3.
OR...sell one now and one closer to xmas.

Or the person could be greedy and sell the two and buy a third when supply is more available :)
-
finally got mine + extras & warranty. mm when are you gonna sell yours?
I\'m thinking I\'ll throw it up Dec 4. :fro:
-
you guys do know there is a shipment scheduled to be for sale on black friday right?
There is also possibility of another shipment b4 xmas...but ive only heard that on the net so not sure how reliable it is.
-
Day one and day two always net the biggest prices. Dunno why you guys waited, but I\'m sure you\'ll still turn a profit.
-
Ouch, hopefully those that had them in hand sold em. Looks like the average is 800-1000 now per unit (no extras), and that might go up a bit near Christmas, but I doubt we\'ll see those 1.5-2.0k prices again.

I\'m sure there will be another shipment before xmas. I mean, why wouldn\'t they? They\'d make a killing by shipping two before Christmas. Once on black friday and once in December. Win win for Sony :)

Maybe you should apply for a job at Sony, and show them how they can increase their manufacturing capacity to meet the demand.

Why have you been so sarcastic towards me lately?
-
Sorry, did I hurt your feelings?
Sheesh, this forum is a sea of sarcasm.
-
Just not in a good mood today I guess (me, not you)

Sony\'s been delivering large numbers of PS3s piecemeal. I\'ve gotten calls from two stores in the area (Sunday and Tuesday) that they had gotten in some new units.
