This is probably the most hyped game..ever,lol. Iv heard this game more than halo 2.
IGN- 9.4
GameSpot- 9.6
Game Informer- 9.5
GamePro- 4.75/5
Yahoo! Games- 4.5 out of 5
TeamXBOX- 9.6 out of 10
1UP- 10 out of 10
Computer & Video Games UK- 9 out of 10
Eurogamer- 8 out of 10 (only rated single player)
Games Radar- 10 out of 10
http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages2/928234.asp
pretty damn good ratings. The Eurogamer review only reviews single player..not even sure why they even bothered reviewing the game without putting everything into consideration. Online deathmatch and coop is a big part of the game.
Im getting it tomorrow so i cant give any personal thoughts about the game.
-
I wonder if the reviewers just bought into the hype.
But it does look like a pretty solid game from what I\'ve seen. It\'s a straight up shooter so I don\'t know if I would like it, but it looks solid for what it is.
-
You\'d think one or two of them would give them 8\'s if it werent as good as the hype..since 8\'s a good score so they dont get flamed, but not a 9.4, 9.6...gamespot, from what iv seen, gives most games 8\'s.
But im honestly more excited about R6: Vegas. Same idea of using cover with a more realistic game. R6 has a perfect balance of strategy/planning and action. Not insanely slow like ghost recon.

Here one interesting mini user-review I read:
Waiting to see if anyone gives the game a "true" review and actually get past the graphics. I admit the graphics are the best I have ever seen but the gameplay is awkward at times (especially with the melee attack chainsaw) the game is extremely repetitious as the stages seem to similar and the camera angles get annoying at times.
It is a shame because this game looks so beautiful but when you start to play it you just get the feeling after a while that "it has to get better" but it never really does. For being a CLiff B. game I was suprised because usually his games are so tight and have some of the best gameplay aspects. Maybe the third person perspective makes it awkward but the game definately lacks the phenomenal gameplay to go with its superior graphics.
Either way I\'m glad the 360 finally has a killer app. I think it\'s safe to say the next-gen bar has been set.
-
Seems like a must have as expected.
-
Just picked up my copied today at EB, this game is beautiful.
I am about to go online and do some multi-player
Live Gametag "UBBER1337"
Something else I noticed about GOW, that I was hoping would be incorporated into the game, which isn\'t. Real time physics for objects etc..
Like when I fire bullets at concrete, i was hoping we would see the objects react with one another, instead of the concrete pulverising it just sparks.

that actually really surprises me since real time physics has been the latest big thing incorporated into games.
Seems so chaotic though i dont think ill notice.

Great commercial, BTW.

Man this game sure is pretty the more I play it. I can\'t help but feel that it\'s still a pale in comparison to what the PC offers for FPS. having to use a controller to aim/view is a real drag, total handicap, I was getting slaughtered in Multiplayer. My fingers are so accustomed to having a keyboard for instant access to weapons/moves. Also I dislike the major delay when to view your surroundings, I guess this is the quark of all console fps. It just seems to be pretty clear that fast action fps have no business on a console.
Will the 360 ever get a mouse for it\'s fps? (99% sure it will never happen)
Aside from my negative comments for a console FPS this game is Top NOTCH!
I love the animation/movements of the characters, the lighting is awesome and if you have a 5.2 surround system you are in for a treat.
-
this was one game that i\'ve always thought would be stellar,...if i were to get a 360, it would seriously be only for this game, but since i only buy one system per gen, i\'m gonna hold out for ps3, but gears of war really has me wanting to cop a 360...
-
Fanboy:p
-
^^^^meh, not really, it\'s just that i can\'t see buying more than one system per gen, i like games, but not to the point where i need all three, i always just pick one system and roll with it, as good as gears of war is, one game doesn\'t warrant a purchase. I\'ve been with sony since psx, and they have satisfied my gaming needs, even tho this time around i think ms and sony will really be on equal ground....lastly i didn\'t like the xbox controllers and i\'m assuming the 360m controllers are probably a variation of the xbox controllers, so i guess i wouldn\'t like them as well,...the ps controllers have the perfect fit...imo.
-
It is pretty much the same shape as the first xbox\'s controller but without the stupid buttons like the back/foreward and the white and black ones one the bottom right.
My issue at first was that it was really easy to accidently press the start button. Maybe it was just fight night since i dont play it anymore, but id always hit that damn thing. But i dont have a problem with it anymore.
And they added a second R and L buttons like the Ps2 controller.
I dont really like one over the other, but iv definitly gotten used to the 360 controller
-
The 360 is 10 times better than the shitty xbox1 controller which I hated. M$ got it right.
SONY has yet to clue in that the Left analog stick should be moved further up. Other than that PSX controller has a nice fit, considering I have between small to medium hands. Rumble is usless

i totally forgot about the left analog stick. On the ps2 controller i ALWAYS used the d-pad. It just feels right, while holding the left stick just felt awkward. In madden id always use the d-pad, mainly because i felt out of control with the stick. But on 360 i never even hesitated to use the stick.
I honestly never touch the d-pad, but i think it\'s because of its placement. If they switched the d-pad and the stick, id be using the d-pad.
My gamertag thing is ViperFujax..ill have gears of war tomorrow..hopefully circuit city will have it in. I tried to call them but theyre f-in retards. He was like "um..you can call back friday to see if we have it in"...i was like..FRIDAY? its f-in tuesday..but i just said thanks and hung up since i knew i wouldnt get anywhere. The guy even asked his manager before he came up with his "call friday" answer. have 15% off there..which is why im going through the trouble.
anyone know if gamestop price matches? i have a fry\'s by me and theyre selling it for 50 bucks..but the drive there is hectic as fauk so i dont really want to drive down there.
-
It is as good as the hype. I\'ll post more on that later.
-
Very True
-
My roommate just got it. I can post his impressions on it later. For now, I\'m caught up in Guitar Hero 2 :)
-
The Kill.switch gameplay looks kind of boring to me.
-
Thats what I thought as well at the beginning. But there must be a good reason for the excitement and good scores now that the game is available right?:)
So I think it might actually do great what Kill Switch didnt. This game tempts me to own a 360 and not just a PS3 despite that I dont have the money to support two expensive consoles that dont offer drastically different experiences.
I havent heard of a bad impression yet. Seems solid, impressie and fun.
-
the game is awesome as hell.
Chaotic but some strategy to it. If you see someone and get excited and go running for him, your probably gunna die. But is hilarious when your leaning up against a wall and see someone coming, then chainsaw him when he gets to the corner.
4v4 online is perfect for the maps and the game. Theres one er two iffy maps, but even theyre fun. Probably my favorite is the one with the helicopter pad.
Still having a hard time smoothly leaning against stuff, chaning positions, moving along the wall..
-
Watching my roommate play it for 6 fucking hours now. It really looks good and fun. I\'ll probably pick it up eventually. Welp, back to Guitar Hero 2 :)
-
I love this game. Only complait I have is that the A button is used too often, it creates confusion.
-
I am really enjoying it. I got my xbox360 on opening day and it pretty much sat under my DvD player untouched since. There just wasn\'t a game coming out for me. I had purchased Condemened during the launch and was let down by it.
I went and picked up GoW opening day by suprise (I thought it came out on Nov 14th) and haven\'t put it down since. I at first thought the duck and cover was a tad boring, then my buddy came over and we did the co-op. The co-op really blew me through the roof. I haven\'t had this much fun in a co-op game since Halo 1 on the xbox, and i\'ve only done split screen so i\'m guessing the xboxlive co-op with a full screen is pretty cool.
After my buddy went home, I really started to appreciate the single player and really can\'t stop. I\'m at Belly of the beast: Tip of the iceberg act III on casual for now. Like Halo I enjoyed beating the game from normal setting then to heroic and after that legenday and thats the route i\'m taking with this one.
When I am done with that i\'ll jump online and get some games in with some of you guys.

This game walk the talk! It plays and looks great. You won\'t believe how good this game looks on HDTV. Here\'s a pics I just took.

Pstwo: What image setting do you have set in the GOW options? Standard?
-
Blade that will entirely depend on your display unit and how well it\'s calibrated and what settings it offers.
From what most people have been relaying across the net, using VIVID setting in the game is the most desired.
-
I was asking him specifically, but thanks.
-
Yes I know, and your welcome:)
-

I didn\'t set any options in GOW but I\'m playing in Hardcore. :thumb:

Ah, so you like it when he squirts on your back.

I passed on FF12. I skipped Guitar Hero II. I never got Okami and I\'m not buying WWE Smackdown.
But dammit, all this praise, I\'ve decided to go pick up Gears of War.
Walmart doesn\'t have it anymore, so I\'ll try my luck at the local mall.
-
I passed on FF12.
Whoa.
I skipped Guitar Hero II.
Jesus.
I never got Okami
What the hell?
I\'m not buying WWE Smackdown.
Well, duh.
I\'ve decided to go pick up Gears of War.
Good man!
-
One out of four heh. I\'m not made of time and money over here!
I\'m getting through the game. It\'s pretty well made. Intense, then a break. Intense, then a break.
The characters and story keep you interested and some of the enemies are freaky.
So it\'s cool. Shooters aren\'t really my bag, so I don\'t know how terribly original this one is, but it is nice running up and slicing a guy with the chainsaw!
Pretty cool so far, about 40% done on the easy mode.
-

Yeah, I\'m pretty sure the chainsaw is a FPS first.
-
BOB IS RIGHT LOL
tehn again teh onley fpss i evar played was halo 1 adn 2
-
It\'s a third person shooter.
I said it\'s not very original.
And killing the bad guys with the chainsaw is fun.
-
I\'ve been playing Gears of War for about a week, and while it is very good, I\'m not entirely satisfied.
There is nothing original about the story whatsoever. In fact they blatantly lifted several ideas from a few famous movies.
The path is extremely linear. Even though there are a few instances when the player can choose to go left or right, the choice is irrelevant as far as I can tell. I acknowledge that most games must be linear to conserve system resources, but some games feel more linear than others. For example, Half Life 2 is also linear, but the path feels very wide, so the player has many opportunities to explore things and screw around playing with tools and weapons in creative ways. In Gears of War, the path is really really narrow. Combine that with the fact that the environments offer very little interaction, and the game begins to feel a little repetitive.
I\'m a somewhat bored with all the character models looking like huge musclebound lunks. I don\'t know why game designers are so enamored with making their characters look like defensive linemen. That was also something that appealed to me about Half Life 2. In that game, there was a great variety in body types among the non player characters.
I\'m not sure I agree with the player health system. I do like that fact that it gets rid of the health powerups, but I don\'t understand how your player regenerates health so quickly between encounters. It seems unrealistic, but I guess I shouldn\'t be looking for realism in a game like this.
I know I\'ve only listed negatives above, but I should also say that the game is enjoyable. I\'m going to keep playing, and I will probably finish it. I just regret that the game didn\'t really "break out of the box" of traditional console shooters. It didn\'t really shatter boundaries like I was expecting from all the glowing reviews.
-
i rented GoW, and very glad i did so.
far too repetitive, and no CTF mode is pointless.
it\'s screaming for a jailbreak mode, however
looked great, but no soul.
-
My brother and I have started playing it again. Finished Act 3 yesterday.
A few notes:
A. It is way too repetitive for me to play it straight through.
B. It is kind of annoying how Fenix sounds 5 times gruffer than any other character.
C. It\'s very linear, though enemies occasionally take completely different approaches.
Overall, I\'ve enjoyed it very much, but it is not the GOTY.
-
Ow boy... there was a huge discussion at the MGS boards with Kojima\'s recent statement in which he claimed BluRay 25Gb single layer will not suffice for MGS4 ; he will need the newer spec 50gb single layer BD. So, the whole talk about the false MGS4 to Xbox360 rumour lit on fire again and comparisons where done between Gears of War & MGS4 and arguing about why MGS4 would really need BluRay 50Gb whereas Gears of War fits on DVD9.
Is GoW single player shorter (in regards to disc space), then ...let\'s say MGS2 or MGS3 ?
-
I for one, prefer a linear game. To me, that\'s a benefit.
-

Well, i like both linear games and open ended games. However, alot of developers fail to create NPC AI and compelling level design to make the open ended game concept actually work.
Linear games are limited yes, but often they succeed better as a concept while other open ended games\' AI fails to cope with, for example ; the multiple paths and the expanded capacities of the player character.
-
I actually have way more fun playing coop with a friend than i do adversarial.
But between playing marvel, rainbow six and madden, i dont really touch GoW that much right now.
-
I love the game, find it was well worth the purchase. But there are some things I would have liked to see changed.
- More large multiplayer maps (the two new free maps is real nice, so maybe this will change as things go)
- More guns
- A better last boss fight in single player
