I\'m never watching college football again
-
While I wouldn\'t agree with the decision of having an OSU Michigan rematch, it doesn\'t warrant never watching college ball again. Never watching college football only makes you look like an idiot. With that said, OSU and Michigan always put on a show when they play, I don\'t know why you WOULDN\'T want to watch that.
On a sidenote, Michigan IS the second best team in the nation but giving them another shot just doesn\'t make sense.
-
Florida is the 2nd best team in the country.
That is, if they win tonight of course.
GO REX GROSSMAN!
-
Go Gators.
If Michigan gets it that will be the stupidest lamest thing ever. THey already lost to The Ohio State. Fuckin A. We beat Arkansas last night with fucking back ups of backups. Have you ever seen that many injuries?
-
Florida deserves to get a chance at us but I still think Michigan is the 2nd best team in the country.
-
college football bores me
-
Ohio State will be FLorida\'s bitch.
-
rex grossman sucks.
-
Ohio State will be FLorida\'s bitch.
I\'ll remember you saying that.
-
Don\'t worry. I will remind you again and again and again.
-
A) Ohio State is going to beat the shit out of Florida
B) Michigan is the 2nd best team in the country
C) Florida deserved the shot over Michigan. Michigan already had their shot. They have no one to blame but themselves.
-
Um, how can you have B and C? you are retarded.
Not because of the B and C thing..
Because the A thing.
-
What doesn\'t make sense/who\'s the retard?
-
Simple. I think that Michigan is better than Florida, but I also think that they already had their shot against Ohio St and blew it, so it only makes sense to give someone else a shot. Especially considering it was the last game both teams played, a rematch would just be pointless.
-
It\'s a national championship game. So why would the 3rd best team play the 1st?
And Boz, you\'re a freaking fanboy. Do you even go to the school?
-
Simple. This way both the #2 and #3 team in the nation have a shot at the #1 team. The #2 team already blew it, so now the #3 team gets a shot. The BCS should work out so well every year!
-

Just like he said. I feel the second best team in the country skill wise is Michigan but it\'s not fair to shut out a whole other conference from the game. Michigan got their chance and now the next best in line, Florida, will.
And don\'t be so childish. I\'m a fanboy because what he said made sense yet you called him retarded? I haven\'t said shit about the game yet. Is this where I insult you? Yawn
And yes I go to the school, transfered in. I\'ve also lived in Columbus my whole life.
-
That "not going to the Unviersity" attack is lame. There are thousands upon thousands of fans that got to like their team because of relatives/saw them on tv/other generic reason. You didn\'t throw that argument at Shocky here, he got to like tOSU becuase of his Ohio Roots, but he doesn\'t live there nor goes to school there. What difference does it make? If they show a passion for the team and always have, what does it matter?
Oh, and uh, since I pretty much dislike Urban Meyer completley and totally, go Buckeyes.
Edit: Hahaha, god my signature blows
-
Just the thought that a national championship game is the #1 vs #3 is idiotic. OK, it\'s not retarded. You girls win that point.
FL has a much harder schedule than Michigan and came out with the same record. ANd shit, FL lost because of one play that was certainly a sketchy call in anyone\'s book. How can you possibly say without a doubt that Michigan is better than Florida when they\'ve never played?
Bah, who gives a shit. FL will beat Ohio State and it won\'t make a bit of a difference anyway.
Just bring on the fucking playoff system. It\'s the only way to have an undisputed champion.
And ROL, how bout them Huskers??????
lol.. My wife went to FSU. She doesn\'t even know what their record was this year.
-
honestly, like 5 out of the last 6 years, the BCS system has had some controversy. it\'s time for a 4 team playoff or returning to the original system. at least the original system kept traditions alive and didn\'t disgrace such a glorious bowl, such as the Rose Bowl, by having 2 teams, non-pac 10 and non-big 10 play.
-
There will always be controversy. If we have a four team playoff, you\'ll have team #5 which has one loss claiming it\'s as good as team #2 with one loss. This year it\'d be Ohio State, Michigan, Florida, and LSU by the BCS standings...but LSU has two losses. You don\'t think that would leave Louisville, Wisconsin, USC, Boise State, and hell, an Auburn team that beat two of those four teams crying foul? You\'re gonna have controversy no matter how you do it. Because no matter how you do it, the last team out is gonna think they shoulda been in.
The BCS has gotten it right all but three times, in my opinion. It screwed up with FSU over Miami, Nebraska over Oregon, and Oklahoma over USC. With the way the BCS is formatted right now, none of those mistakes would have been made.
And I\'m totally against a playoff system. If you want playoffs, watch the NFL. If you want a season where the playoffs start with game #1...then you can watch college football.
And as for the Rose Bowl pitting a non Pac 10 team vs. a non Big 10 team...with the current system, that shouldn\'t be such a problem. It\'s automatically Pac 10 vs. Big 10 unless one of those teams get into the BCS championship game, in which case the Rose Bowl has first choice to replace that team and can just go with another team from that conference. If it\'s not Pac-10 vs. Big Ten, the only people you can blame are the Rose Bowl representatives.
I\'m not going out and trying to prove Michigan is better. I do honestly believe they are though. Just my opinion.
And there\'s still no way the Gators have a chance :)
Oh, and yeah, FSU sucks :)

they could easily do even 16 teams. 99% of bowl games are completely worthless. use the shitty bowl games to be the first round of playoffs.
-
Which is just what college football needs: Take more away from the small conferences and give it to the large ones. A lot of those programs in the smaller bowls struggle to make money as it is. Do that, and watch how many schools in small conferences have to cut their football programs.
If you think the BCS is unfair, cutting the smaller bowl games to have a playoff structure would be one hundred times worse.
-
how many bowl ganes are there now? at least 40 something.
these worthless schools can still have their shitty bowl games. that doesn\'t have to change.
-
It\'d still end up being a financial hit for them, regardless.

I don\'t know what your talking about... The MPC Computers Bowl is HUUUUGGE!
-
Actually the conferences share the money from the bowls, so the little schools get money anyway. At least they\'d be watched.
-
From what bowls? They don\'t share the BCS money, that\'s for sure. You only get BCS money if your conference appears in it.
-
right. The conferences share the money. If Florida plays in the Sugar Bowl it helps Vanderbilt.
-
By little schools I mean every school in division 1-A and not in a BCS conference.
-
I\'m not saying get rid of bowl games. There can still be bowl games for the teams outside the top 8 or 16.
-
I like bowl games. One of the things I really like about college football is bowl games. Unlike every other sport more then just 1 team can end their post-season with a win.
If you take the top 8 teams in for a playoff, what will the 9th place team say? Especially if they have a record equal to the 8th and 7th place teams, or in Boise State\'s case they are undefeated but have a weak schedule?
College football IS bowl games. Not playoffs. Always has been always will be. Of the 1 loss teams, Michigan had their chance, and now the second one lost team Florida is getting its chance.
If Ohio State beats Florida should Ohio State have to play 2 more teams to prove they are the best team in the Country? And if Florida beats Ohio State should they have to play 2 more teams to prove they are the best in the country?
If you bring in a 8 team playoff system every year would that be fair to two 12-0 teams at #1 and #2? Should Texas have to play 2 more teams last January to prove they are the best? No.
And what is so horribly wrong about split national championships? These are kids, not paid professional athletes. No need to run them through extra games during December exams just to please media
One thing I noticed is that alot of the people who want playoffs really dont care much about the tradition of college football. Former LSU coach Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, all these guys ready to cut and run to the NFL, yet they want to change the history and tradition of college football before they do.
I dont see why there is ANY controversy this year, Florida and Ohio State is playing for the title and whoever wins is clearly the best team in the country.
-
I completely agree with everything Clowd just said.
-
With lawmakers from Michigan now demanding a playoff system Im glad some people see things the same way I do.
The BCS has matched the top two ranked opponents a lot more than pre-bcs times while keeping the integrity of bowl games. Can\'t ask for much more than that.
-
you can have a playoff system and have consolation games...
p.s. I don\'t see anyone complaining about the NCAA basketball playoff... and yes I know they can\'t play 6 rounds... but 6 conf(Big East, ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-10, SEC, etc.) winners and 2 atlarges would do just fine. That way if you are the 2nd best team in your conf you still have a chance.

Because thats comparing apples to oranges...
-
It really is. Establishing an NCAA Tournament in basketball didn\'t kill tradition in any way...the championship was already being decided via tournament. And basketball and football are two completely different games.
Also, have you ever noticed the people who tend to campaign for a playoff tend to fall into one of two categories: sore losers or pro football fans?
-
With lawmakers from Michigan now demanding a playoff system
Are you serious?
-
Are you serious?
Right as I was starting that post I read on si about how two different lawmakers in Michigan were talking about it. A republican and a democrat, thats about all I remember on who they were.
Actually heres the link

That way if you are the 2nd best team in your conf you still have a chance.
If you are by definition 2nd best in any conference, why should you have a chance to play for the national title? If we already know there is a team that\'s better than you, then how do you belong in the conversation for best team in the nation?

Dude, that\'s just silly.
Don\'t the have more important things to deal with?
I guess not.

Highest percentage of first place votes ever. Amazing.
-
wow. Great game last night.. :gfight:
"2nd best team" in the country got their asses kicked.
-
*shrug* That\'s why they play the games. Can\'t say it\'s not what I wanted to happen.
And how about that Boise State game? THAT is what football is all about.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENwDDB0dlRk&NR
-
Yeah. I didn\'t get to see the game, but I read about it. Great stuff.
-
College football needs to be careful. Unless they want it to be as low class as the NFL they really need to flag punks like Dwayne Jarrett for their repeated unsportsmanlike plays. No class, reminds me why I hate USC.
-
I\'m still glad they won though.
-
Ohio State will be FLorida\'s bitch.
:sleep2:
-
Props to Vid.
-
Florida deserves to get a chance at us but I still think Michigan is the 2nd best team in the country.
Nah, LSU is the 2nd best team in the country.
35 yards passing... 47 yards rushing...
Heh..
-
All I said was that I thought that. Florida was the better team tonight, plain and simple. Buckeyes got stomped. Sucks to see Troy Smith end his career as a Buckeye that way.
With that said, I wish I was having the discussion with a real Florida fan as opposed to a fair weather one like yourself. I could continue on, maybe make a childish insult like you would, but I\'ll pass.
-
fair weather? You can\'t be serious.
All I said was that Flroida is way under rated and the thought that Michigan deserved to be there over Florida was ridiculous. The only thing childish I said was that Ohio State would be Florida\'s bitch. Um, well... It was actually quite a bit worse.
Florida outgained the Buckeyes 370 yards to 82, led in first downs 21-8 and time of possession 40:48 to 19:12.
Here is a perfect quote from what I was saying before...
“Honestly, we’ve played a lot better teams than them,” Florida defensive end Jarvis Moss said. “I could name four or five teams in the SEC that could probably compete with them and play the same type of game we did against them.”
-
There was no excuse for how the Buckeyes played. 51 days off, and it looked like they didn\'t watch any game film on the Gators what so ever. I don\'t know if they were just that over confident and thought they didn\'t have to adjust their game to the team they were playing at all, or what, but wow was that an awful game plan.
Losing Ginn certainly hurt. It\'s a shame though. After coming up huge in every other big game in his career, I\'m afraid this is what Smith is now gonna be remembered for. I wonder how many draft spots he now drops.
Yeah, that one hurt, a lot.
-
anyone ever say how he hurt his ankle? Certainly wasn\'t obvious.
-
let me go on record by saying, "the 51 day lay off had nothing to do with the outcome of the game (SARCASM)"
so all in favor of a playoff system?
boise state national champs.......btw
-

Vid you\'re always an ass/childish. Thats definitely not the first time you\'ve acted that way, especially towards me. And yea, Jarvis Moss can say that but 2 other good SEC teams lost to Big 10 teams in bowl games. I think there was a lot more to do with that game than just the skill of each. I think the buckeyes went into the game cocky and the opening kickoff return continued that mood. Their unwillingness to blitz also killed things. Especially when all they did on 3rd down was sit back in coverage and let them get 8-12 yards. Also, Ginn going down didn\'t help, though we still got stomped.
And yea.....this might be the first time I\'ve ever said it but the playoff might need to happen. Ohio State has a 51 day layoff, which completely sucks. Boise, who goes 13-0 and beats a legitimate team, doesn\'t get a chance at the title game. Other teams like LSU and Wisconsin seem to be playing great football and could just as easily compete. I dunno
-
^^^
Agreed. Meh. This years Championship sucked. I had no interest at all. I thought they were both overrated teams and that everybody else but SMU and UT sucks. Haha.
The best bowl game was Boise St. vs. OK Sooners. It was an amazing play to say the least.
