Who here\'s really looking forward to it? To my eyes it looks like a piece of shit. I mean, it\'s so god damn ugly! It reminds me of a bad theme done by an amateur. Although it does improve a bit when you turn that shitty glass effect off (it blurs everything and makes it look like you\'re drunk). I prefer the XP look by far...
So, any fans in da house?

I thought it looked pretty cool :(

Well you\'re just a silly homosexual. :D

sheesh, don\'t know how they could get worse than xp\'s playschool look

But somehow Microsoft managed. :)

As per this post of mine (http://www.psx2central.com/forums/showpost.php?p=578725&postcount=7) I won\'t be supporting Vista unless microsoft undoes some very nasty parts of it\'s idea... something that won\'t be happening at this point.
Vista and it\'s controlled paths and hardware are the doom of the open PC we\'ve all come to know and love. The open PC that has forced prices down and competition/performance up for almost every aspect of the computer. The open PC that lets anyone with a basic knowledge program applications and games, without the need for lawyers and MS approval. No.... I definitely won\'t be using Vista.
As for the look.... well, I never even bothered with the \'graphical pretties\' of XP. I want my OS to perform, not look nice. If it uses system resources unnecessarily, it\'s turned off.
-
I\'ve been part of Vista testing since built 5236 (2 built pre-RC1). I am currently using RTM (from MSDN) as my main OS. The performance are great, the look is brilliant. The way windows move, appears or are close.. things are always smooth. I\'d say currently, my PC run better in Vista then it does in XP, beside for gaming. It will probably run smoother when better driver are out.
On the opposite of FatalXception, I believe Vista will open the door to PC gaming to people that are scared of PC. If "game for windows" plan goes like MS plan, things should be a lot easier for non-technical-person that don\'t understand how to run their own computer.
As for all the new anti-piracy, anti-video streaming, blablabla, it all will be cracked before the things hit the shelves anyway.

+1
When there are millions upon millions of uers all wanting the same thing, the will of the people > DRM. MS may make it harder but if there\'s a will, there\'s a way. Look how many times iTunes\' DRM was cracked.
Anyway, I think it will take a while before I upgrade to Vista, and the gaming aspect will probably be the deciding factor that makes me switch. I would like the modern OS to be more "alive" and fluid like Tom Cruise\'s compy in Minority Report. :fro:

Do you want your OS to be continually crippling itself with updates in the background when you\'re connected to the internet? Sure, things will be patched, but fighting a constant war (and if you understand that nature of the beast that is Vista, it will be constant) is tiring and irritating. Because of the way certain protections will be coded into the OS and hardware, you will be limited in what you can permanently patch in terms of security.

In a precious few weeks I\'ll betray the PC world... and get a Mac. I don\'t play games anyway and I need a new laptop. So MacBook here I come! Can\'t wait to ditch the POS that is Windows.
-
*edit*
Macs serve their purpose to those who don\'t like fiddling with PC\'s many problems, but I don\'t like the closed architecture or the prices.

Actually it\'s not so bad. They\'re not that expensive anymore. Besides, if you really really want you can run Windows on it.
I\'m betting lots of people have been switching to Macs ever since they made the Intel transition.

My cousin, who is a longtime hater of Macs, is also now probably going to get a MacBook, for the simple pleasure of running Windows with the proper drives that are guaranteed to work with the hardware because they are provided with Apple\'s Boot Camp (he\'s had endless hours of driver nightmares). It will also give him a chance to play around with OS X for the first time. There are quite a few games for the Mac these days, but if you want to play PC games, you can always boot into XP and get your game on. But because of the laptops being so thin and light, they don\'t pack much of a graphical punch, unless you get one of the bigger laptops, and even then it\'s kind of eh...
The MacBooks are nice, though.
Vista\'s restrictions are quite lame. =\\

??
you can schedule when the update are happening (ex.: 4am everyday), turn-off the auto-updater. I don\'t see the problem here? every software, from wimamp to firefox use auto-update.
-
I smile at your trusting naivety. Under the guise of \'trusted path security\' they will be able to make \'critical\' updates mandatory and completely non-transparent. They define \'critical,\' of course.
The worst case scenario I\'ve read is that certain hardware functions won\'t work without first checking that they are still \'approved\' before they run, although that route still has challenges to overcome and may not be possible. Much like HDMI, if hardware is \'cracked\' M$ will be able to revoke security privileges of components, crippling the computer.

just chiming in, I\'ve been using Vista at work for the past week and it\'s great. Not leaps & bounds better than XP by any means but the little touches make it more user-friendly and less boring.
-
It\'s Windows ME but flashier!
-
Just get a theme pack or something if you want less boring. :)
I\'m using a Mac-like theme on my XP along with a dock (RocketDock). It looks great.

Exactly...only Vista is still buggier.
The UAC is the most effing annoying thing I\'ve ever seen in an OS. Turned that off immediately. "Are you sure?" Yes. "Are you sure?" YES. "Are you sure?" YESS!! "You need Admin privileges to use that function." SON OF A BITCH! **Open as Administrator**

site was confusing at first. if i change the graphics and everything, can i easily change them back? also, i didn\'t really see too much in terms of variety but i did see a graphic theme that i liked.
-
Um, I linked directly to the themes on the site. Just download and install. Even a child, and perhaps you, can figure it out. :p
And yeah, you should be able to uninstall the whole thing.
You can also use the built-in XP themes, but I can\'t remember where to get the haxxed dll file you need.

u guys are just racist against vista

cool. its 2:10AM right now so i\'m not downloading it tonight (i have a test in the morning) but i\'ll download that theme that i liked and post screen shots or whatever
-
Yes, TITan. You can uninstall it fine. However, you should create a Restore Point before you install the theme because I\'ve ran into some funkiness uninstalling before. The themes all come with uninstallers though.
-
how do i put in a restore point?
-
In control panel, there should be a system restore setting somewhere. Launch it and choose \'new restore point\' (or whatever it\'s called).
-
thanks :)
-
Is this your first time using a computer, TITan? ;)
-
nope. i just never do any customization ;)
-
Setting a Restore Point is customization?
