Title: Already fucking apple problems
Post by: videoholic on January 22, 2007, 03:15:06 AM
So I did the OSX system upgrade (Like the thing told me to do) and now it just boots up to a gray screen and sits there.  What the fuck?

Lol... Sorry, can\'t help you. My MacBook upgraded just fine.

Try rebooting?

Bah.    I hit the on off button a couple times.  It just sits there on a gray screen and doesn\'t make much of a sound.  I really don\'t want to put the new system discs in and restore the system.  Final Cut took forever to install.

What button do I hold down to boot from CD if I have to do that?

I\'ve had Macs that never had any problems in 8-9 years. The one I\'m on about 5 years. It\'s been through multiple OS upgrades. I don\'t know what\'s up with you guys.

Anyway, hold down the C key while booting with the OS X install CD. Perhaps use the Disk Utility to see if there\'s anything funky with the drive.

Something just screwed up I guess with the update.  Damn.  Final Cut took like an hour to install...

Is that how you lure little kids away from the schoolyard?

Vid,

What symbol does it show with the grey screen?  A folder with a "?" or just a spinning circle?

Try rebooting in safe mode.  hold the shift key after you restart the computer.

It just sat there with nothing.

I got home yesterday and turned the computer on and it worked.  I did nothing other than hit the button.  No clue.

Same thing with my Powerbook G4. But I knew it was gonna happen when I heard the hard drive start buzzing like a bumble bee. I rebooted....Gray Apple. So to fix it, I bought a Dualcore 2.66gHz Mac Pro with the ATI 1900xt graphics card and 4 gigs (all of them not from Mac, as they are more expensive than organ transplants).

To test its power, I installed Civilizations 4 with all the graphical meltdown turned on. Runs like a champ. Now if I can just stop playing the damn game, I might be able to do some video editing.
