Title: PlayStation 2 Recommendations
Post by: Riku on January 27, 2007, 11:43:16 AM
I\'m still filling out my last gen consoles, so I come to you guys to ask what I should have on my must-buy list.  First I\'ll let you know what I have, and then what I\'m looking in to.

Currently own:
Jak & Daxter, Jak II, Jak 3, Jak X Combat Racing
Ratchet & Clank 1-3
Final Fantasy X, X-2, XII
ICO, Shadow of the Colossus
Wipeout Fusion
Twisted Metal Black
Xenosaga
God of War
Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2
Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 (recently sold them off)

Looking in to:
Okami
Xenosaga II, III
Grandia 3
Radiata Stories
Ratchet Deadlocked
ATV Off-road Fury series
Splashdown series
Primal

Would you highly recommend any of those titles, additional titles?  Would you say pass on any of them?

I\'m mostly looking for PS2 exclusives as it usually goes that I can get better versions of multi-platform games for my GC or Xbox.

Devil May Cry 3 is a good choice if you enjoyed the first one.

^^^yea, that\'s going to be i think the last great AAA game for the system. And it looks to be just as good, if not better than the first one.

I\'ve tried the Metal Gear series and found that I don\'t like it much, same for the Devil May Cry series.  I never could get in to Grand Theft Auto or Silent Hill.  I think I\'ll check out Okami when it drops in price.

Nobody has any thoughts on the games I listed?

I think Primal is a must play for anyone that considers themselves to be a true gamer. Good graphics (great for the day) and very high production values. The combat is lame but in sort of the same way the combat was poor in ICO. Not very demanding (minus the protect the princess factor) but more than worth it just to see what\'s next. I\'ll warn you though, for me it bogged down the second half. Just not as spectacular as the first two worlds which both had given me the distinct impression of being in another world, much like ICO or the original J&D. If you know what I mean.

Added bonus, you can find it sealed dirt cheap if you look around.

Okami, I\'m in the same boat. Will pick it up one day but I\'m in no hurry. After all it\'s considered game of the year in some sects and got high praise from almost everywhere else.

I\'ve been given to understand Xenosaga III is miles better than the first in many ways so if you\'ve played the first and found it okay you can\'t go wrong there. I had to quit playing the first one after a few hours because the constant loading was too much of a drag (something BTW, which Primal has down to near zero).

I\'d go on but with only more hearsay about the rest it shouldn\'t amount to much worthwhile to you anyway. Plus with such a huge backlog of sealed PS2 games of my own waiting to be played it would be a big waste of time with which I could be enjoying those instead.  On top that, I\'d also like to finish up some of my meager PS3 collection  before the next big name titles land. Such is life...

Cool, I\'ll start looking for out for Primal to add to my collection.

I did enjoy Xenosaga quite a bit.  The only thing that turned me off was the rare difficulty spike here and there.  I found the story very entertaining.

Thank you. :)
