After years of having Comcast Cable as my Internet and Television provider, my family and I have finally decided to switch. Verizon is offering us a better deal financially, as well as (supposedly) better television picture quality and faster internet. My internet speeds will now go up to 20 mbps downstream and 5 mbps upstream. FiOS arrives February 7th (same day Lost comes back coincidentally), so I will give my formal review of both services (as well as telephone since its now a "triple play" package).
Just wondering if anyone has already made the switch and what their impressions are.

Sounds great I hate comcast cable. Well I hate that cable is a monopoly here in michigan. Sucks as wish I could switch
-
i\'ve always expressed my hatred of comca$t (woohoo there\'s an S in the name that I can convert to a dollar sign!), I\'d definitely rather have FIO$ ($hit!). I am leery of Verizon\'s TV service though. What do they know about television?
Tell us how it turns out. Also get a broadband report from 2wire.com from both services for the helluvit.

Verizon isn\'t by me yet. But from what my bro tells me (he works for them), they don\'t give service to apartments. I hate Comcast. I had to fight them for months to get rid of a bill I shouldn\'t have had.
-
Funny...
I\'ve had Comcast for years and never really had problems.

They were problems to me right from the start. Although, most college students near me have problems with them. They shut off my brothers cable and then continued to charge him. That is a common occurrence at my school too. A lot of people I\'ve talked to had that problem. Someone needs to complain already ;)

Or stop feeding them money and switch companies.

Make sure if you use a router that it\'s WAN port will support speeds of 20 mbps... most of them support only 10 mbps, which is the usual limit for broadband services.

Verizon includes a router for that purpose.

Who else would I go to? Verizon isn\'t in my area and we need to have the broadband too.
-
how about dsl? like verizon dsl. is it supported in your area?
-
I\'ve been trying to get FIOS for months. Last time I checked it STILL wasn\'t available in my area.
*Goes to check again*

I have Verizon DSL at my home back in North Jersey and its not worth it. It has constant problems.
-
i see. not sure what constant problems your dsl has, but is there other service providers beside verizon? BTW, what are you using for internet now?

It gets bad bottlenecks and slow down periods. They are the only DSL provider. At home I could get cable, but Cablevision is just as bad if not worse than Comcast.
At school, I have Comcast for cable internet and TV. I wanna use the fiber optics system Verizon has now.
-
i see.

Just had the internet installed...
Download speed went from 8 mb/s to >20mb/s
Upload speed went from 0.7 mb/s to 3.5 mb/s
:)
Oh and I\'m actually SAVING money.
-
congratulations. wow, do you really need that much download speed? But the good thing is you are saving money and yet get a better deal on faster upload and download speed too. Really cool.
-
It was part of a triple play package that included telephone and television. Telephone is crystal clear... CRAZY crystal clear, and television picture quality is unmatched.
-
cool. so, i suppose by digital quality tv, you mean internet tv?
I still haven\'t really get how digital phone works though. do you mean using the computer to phone someone?
-
Fiber Optics uses light, which accounts for the blazing fast speeds. However I still think its a digital signal though.
-
about the phone service, how is it different than the traditional phone? can you still use the regular phone or do you need a different phone?

lol
it\'d be the truth!

I\'ve been waiting for this ever since I first heard of it. You\'d think that living in San Francisco I\'d be able to get it, but nope, no love yet.

I\'ve been waiting as well. Now I come to find out from my bro (who works for Verizon) that I can\'t get FiOS in an apartment. I\'m pissed. I wanna get rid of Comcast.

I called today and it turns out Verizon doesn\'t service my area. It\'s AT&T, which doesn\'t have Fios. Grrr.
