I don\'t know anything about cell phones. What\'s a cheap one to buy and get the plan set up, and also has cheap payments and free minutes after certain hours, etc.
-
see what your friends/family have FIRST. If the people you normally call are on the same carrier as you your bills will be much less.
All my buds & family are on Verizon so we went with them. $40/mo is the cheapest plan I think (assuming you don\'t go over your minutes), unless you do a family plan with a roommate and divide the bill by two.
Each carrier has a free bare-bones phone option (what I have) with a contract.

Why, are you planning on selling weed?

If you dont plan on yacking too much you can get cingulat. 450 minutes with rollover for like 35 bucks a month.
You guys heard of this new company cingulat?
I wonder if they have anything to do with cingular?
-
Isn\'t Cingular the new AT&T?
-
Go with Verizon...
All the others suck...
All offer unlimited nights & weekends (9 PM till ...i think 7 AM and weekends and unlimited same carrier to same carrier)

False

T-Mobile is probably the least expensive and best bang for your buck depending on where you live. Cingular\'s customer service is ASS!

lol this sums up phone services real quick. I absolutely love Cingular and have had no problem with their customer service. Everybody is gonna have their favorite, just as long as you don\'t go with sprint.
-
Just research which company gets good service where you would use it. Cingular gets shitty service at my house (like 1 bar) but if you go like 10 feet down the street you get full service. At my school, particularly my apartment, I get 3+ bars at any time whereas every other service gets 1 or no bars. For a cheap cell phone, I doubt which company you go for matters except who gets service where. Just ask around like friends. I\'m sure they......if you have friends, have all different types of service.

Heh, careful, don\'t want to assume. ;]

I wouldn\'t wish Sprint upon even my most hated enemy

I refuse to sign a cell phone contract ever again. That is one of the dumbest things a person can do. I got metro pcs you can get it for 45 a month unlimted everything no contracts and you can get it in any name you want.
-
Thanks Quddus. I like that. This is info for someone else, but if I were going to get a phone, I\'d sign up with that, myself.
-
Alright so Metro PCS isn\'t offered in my area.
So I know people who use Verizon, I\'m interested in that. I like the $39.99 a month plan that gives you 450 minutes plus free nights/weekends.
Only thing I don\'t understand is that they give me a phone for free under a "2 year contract."
What happens after the 2 years? Additional cost?
-
No additional cost. After 2 years you can either
- keep your current 2yo phone
- get a newer model free phone
Only "catch" I guess with the free phones is they are usually more bulky and ugly compared to a Moto RAZR or SLVR, which many people don\'t have an issue with. Oh and they don\'t have bluetooth either so you can\'t get one of those minority-loving wireless earpieces.

Yeah. Those free phones suck. I did get lucky one time when I got the Nokia brick. As big and ugly as it was, I always had phenomenal battery life, service and I threw that thing against walls and it never broke. I have a Sony Ericson now and it sucks balls. It sucks more than Samwise in a gay whorehouse. I never knew cell phones can freeze. Its amazing.

Thanks for the help. I just need a phone with decent reception. Not into looks or cameras, web surfing, mp3s or text messaging.
-
txt messaging is really handy actually. I just wish they didn\'t charge $.10 or whatever it is per msg.
If you\'re getting your 1st cell, you\'ll be more than happy with the free models available.

Agreed. My mom hates them and doesn\'t see the point but I like text messaging. Usually, I just need to find out some quick info from someone and its better sending a couple texts than calling someone. Plus, I can talk to people in places I can\'t call, like if I\'m in a movie, class or with someone else.

Sprint is the absolute worst hated every moment of it.

Old school mobile phones.
fre4d4 used these a lot back in the 1910\'s.
