Takes friendly fire to a whole new meaning...

Troops killing each other, several incidents...

But troops killing themselves???

Killing yourselves in the army isn\'t considered friendly fire..its called an accident.

It\'s unlikely the weapon was built in Canada.  It\'s all aboot the source, it\'s probably an American weapon, although you can\'t rule out France as a supplier, eh?

Canada has a darn good war record (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_History_of_Canada).  We kicked the US\'s (albiet with British assistance) ass in 1812 (http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mwar1812.htm) and we distinguished ourselves nicely in WW II (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_history_of_Canada_during_the_Second_World_War)
(It\'s too bad we\'ve let our military crumble so far, but I\'m sure we could produce again if we needed, we produced hundreds of ships and had the 4th largest navy after WWII).

This is aboot national pride, and not racism or intolerance!

after WWII CANADA began to move towards a more socialist government, In that process there military slowly began to crumble. Canada was known to have a damn tough and respectful military, I know my father telling me this after he retired from the US Army. Canada today is left with a bare minimum Military as there government has refused to spend the money necessary to rebuild it. I believe since last Year after the Harper government was elected that they have been allocating more money and have proposed to help rebuild Canada\'s military.

If I was Canada I\'d do the same thing. :D  What\'s so bad about being neighbor to the US and allocating your budget towards things such as urban development and education vs. military?

well military is important as a means to defend your country. Canada would have to rely on allies(which would make deals on resources etc--aka economical hitman) this is a very bad thing.

Japan does quite well relying on the US for defense. They allocate all that extra income into the economy and school and kid-like anime porn.

I think they know that if anyone fucks with Canada, they will have to deal with the US. Like Kennedy said during the Cuban Missile Crisis, any threat to the western hemisphere is a threat to the US. If I was the Canadian government, I\'d back off on military funding for a bit. But it would be cool to see them have a nice military. Make a great ally.

Yes, because many a country would want to invade Canada. They want their hockey players.
