Hah, sorry about the lame title. For the hax0rz out there it was supposed to be "Two PS3 questions". And here they come:
- How noisy is the PS3?
- How does the PS3 fare as a Blu-Ray player?
Thanks. :)
-
Why don\'t you do a little research ;)

Quiet. Very quiet.
As a blu-ray player? Read my thread in this forum about the 3 way review for blu-ray players: PS3, Samsung and Panasonic.

Why would I do that when I can just ask you guys. :D
Thanks Gman, you\'re the man now dog.

speaking of Euro Ps3\'s, im doing some business article/report thing and came across this at forbes http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/02/28/ap3469939.html
Not sure if the popular games will have that software that makes it backwards compatible. Or if theyre retarded like MS and make games like wolverine\'s game backwards compatible and only one of the prince of persias...

PS3 is dead quiet to jet engine loud if it\'s not getting enough airflow from my experience.

That\'s totally stupid. That\'s one of the big selling points IMO. My PS2 is on its last leg and I don\'t want to have to buy a new PS2 just to play a few games. But atleast they have downloads for PS2 games. Hopefully, they don\'t charge for that upgrade service.

meh, if sony wanted to save some loot, they should\'ve shelved blu-ray,...personally i don\'t see no-need for hd-dvd or blu-ray, as the standard dvd movies play exceptionally well imo. when and if blu-ray becomes the standard, then maybe i could\'ve seen them pushin for this, but as it is now? it really is still up in the air as far as blu-ray is concerned and clearly they could\'ve cut out that option, and saved some massive capital there.
as far as the backwards compatiable option? i\'ve always wondered how long that was going to last, i was thinking for sure that for next gen (ps4) that this option would be gone completely, but it is one of the system\'s strong selling points...i also thought sony should\'ve have went on ahead and paid the extra cash for that rumble feature. say what you want, but that rumble feature added another level of depth to the games,...it\'s going to feel weird with that option gone as well....
i\'m ranting a bit but as i\'ve always stated, if these companies just concentrated on makin\' games and stop trying to be the all in one, they would be be makin\' way more profit and would end up pleasing everybody in general. throwing so much tech into a system that\'s going to last at the most what? 5 - 7 yrs is a bit foolish, then by the time it\'s time for that new system to come out, yer hands are kinda tied because of so much money invested in the product, in this case ps3.....this is just my opinion of course but this is just how i see it
-
I used the backwards compatibility on the PS2 only a handful of times, meh, I can\'t say I would see myself playing many PS2 games on the PS3 either.
-
as the standard dvd movies play exceptionally well imo
It doesn\'t for me. Been a French Canadian, I like to watch movie on their original English version and I also like to watch them in French, which most of the time use a very good French "slang" and adapted swearing :D
the problem is, most of the time the French version is in 2.0 and sometimes "surround 5.1" and you have the English version dolby, DTS...
When you go to these companies website, they state that due to space restrain, they can\'t have 2 complete DTS or dolby audio track on the same DVD.
They could be lying though, and simply want to reduce the production cost. Anyway, they wont be able to use this argument with BR.

If I feel nostalgic, I\'ll play PSX games on my PS2. It doesn\'t play them any more though :( But that\'s why I still have my PSX :)

heh sony must\'ve heard my complaint a few posts up...the rumble is back!...:fro:

oh and gman,mm....i know you tech guys can see the slightest improvement in visual quality when it comes to that stuff, i\'m just sayin\' for me the dvd\'s play pretty decent....
-
The visual leap from DVD to High Definition is quite a big difference.

whelp,...i gotta give credit when it\'s due,..these guys know what they\'re talkin\' about when it comes to that "tech" stuff, well mm, gman and a few others, *looks over at the 1080i and 1080p thread*...paul seems to know alot about this stuff as well, not to mention the good advice i got from a few members concerning the set i purchased recently...:fro:

Yo Clips, check out this thread for some high def screen shots (not as good as the real deal, but it\'ll give you an idea of how it looks - there are even some comparions between DVD and HD):

sorry, my idea of techguys is people that engineer / repair devices in a corporate environment, not just know what specs a tv has and what buttons on the remote does what. ;)
-
i agree. but eh, clips calling us techguys is like giving us more credits than we actually deserve...well, maybe except you soulgrind since you work in those tech fields...
-
I\'m not a "tech guy". I work in the IT industry....but I\'m no techie.

It doesn\'t? Ah crap.

Sammy initially I thought $600 was too much but owning it for a several months now I feel it was well worth it. Blu-ray player prices aren\'t going down and we already know it\'s reliable.
Word on the street is that Sony\'s next controller will have Immersion\'s rumble tech in it since they reached an agreement. So hold off on buying the extra controllers for now.
-
Wouldn\'t the rumble feature throw off the 6 axis controller?

Wouldn\'t the rumble feature throw off the 6 axis controller?
if there\'s a way to make it work I\'m sure they\'ll find it
almost been 2 weeks btw, 2 more then I\'m teh champ

that was an excellent source sammy...:fro:....i can\'t believe the detail difference between blu-ray and dvd....you can see it with the ice - age comparisons, and i was really impressed with how you could see each individual feather on that pigeon from the movie "crank"...heh now i finally see what all the buzz is with blu-ray.....really impressive stuff.....and as far as callin\' the peeps in here tech guys, i thought that was better than callin\' them "geeks"......oh well best buy isn\'t the only faction with personnel that can call themselves "the geek squad"....we\'ve got a handfull here...:p

When it comes to dvd\'s I don\'t think I have come that far were I care about hd dvd or dvd. I am currently fine watching my movies in dvd quality as of now. I have an HD set and am getting another one. I guess soon enough I will adapt to the new standards. Their just not all that big of an issue for me as of now.
I mean the quality is so much better when the movies become cheap as DVD movies then I will think about it. You can get 3 dvd\'s for 20bucks at my video store brand new.

Ditto. No doubt I\'m getting a next generation movie player. But I don\'t have an HDTV, nor can I afford one right now. Even if I get a PS3, blu-ray is not really worth buying because I still only have standard definition sets and I wouldn\'t be able to take full advantage of blu-ray without an HDTV. DVDs are good for me now. I should be getting an HDTV within the next couple years (depends how much money I make this summer I guess) so we\'ll see if I invest in a blu-ray player.
