It\'s called \'Home\'

I\'ll let the video speak for me

It\'s free, but there sure seems to be a lot of ways to make you pay for content with that service.  Neat idea, considering just how popular the sims are.

the virtual 3d world is useless, it\'s just a gimmick. I am sure the little kiddies will love it.

i think it will be cool once we actually start tinkering with it

It looks really cool, but it has quite a bit to prove.  We\'ll have to see if it\'s as seamlessly integrated in to the system and all games as Live is.

Will I be able to chat across all games, no matter what either player is playing?  Send/receive invites/messages no matter where I am, what I\'m playing, when I\'m playing?  Will I have to travel through this virtual community to get to the trailers, arcade, etc?

The cool thing about Live is it\'s always running in the background, and it\'s very accessible.  I\'m under the impression from the video that I\'ll have to launch Home first from the crossbar.

I will say Home looks to have quite a bit of potential.  We\'ll have to see if Sony can break it\'s trend of over-promising and under-delivering.

We\'ll see.

The possibilities are there. For an avid online gamer such as myself I prefer a lobby consisting of well known reputable players. I\'d rather invest my time playing the games and setting matches up then lobbying around visiting little kiddies art deco virtual homes.

Like I said earlier the kiddies will love this like there mama\'s supple milk, that is if SONY delivers on the content. I have  learned a very important lesson with XBOX live. The majority of people using CONSOLE online gaming services are noob/computer illiterate/non hardcore PC gamer types. In other words the casual gamer.

With Live i was dealing with ignorant loud mouth rednecks,  8 year old boys who think there bad ass like 50 cent etc..... Rarely did I met serious mature gamers. That is why when ever I hope on LIVE(which is rare) it\'a 95% of the time in private lobby\'s with my friends.

This is why i still prefer PC gaming for multilayer.

Thats why i don\'t play online full stop. To many knobs in the world fucking it all up. I\'d prefer Lans anyway.  Hence why a group of mates and I do it once in a while.

I\'ve went online once and with my xbox and played NFL 2K. The guy I was playing against was some punk kid who kept yelling out stupid shit and continued to cheat. I stopped playin and never signed up again.

Sure. But then again....Sims 2 is extremely popular among adults. So I wouldn\'t just brush this off as another "Mii Character" thingy.

I posted the link at another forum and someone mentioned it was a rip off from Second Life. I checked it out and Jeebus.....it\'s got 4 million users! I never heard of this. Maybe mm can fill us in?

Someone correct me if I\'m wrong, but isn\'t it a world where you can buy and sell stuff for real monies? Some people make a decent buck on it but I\'m guessing they don\'t have a first life...

Second Life was in the news recently.  The old schoolers were getting fed up with the noobs and set off a couple of b0mbas

nvidia- agreed 100% on xbox live.  My bro started an account for Halo 2 and I hated every second of it.  Talk about morons.  The only way I will get into the PS home thing is if I can instantly boot or kick an annoying user from my place ;>  Reputation points would be a great addition too.

I dont think people will be able to go to "your place" without invitation. Only people from your friend list?

I hate the online moron too. But as with every online games I played, keep a small circle of friend around and simply ignore the others.

There is some crazy idea that can be done with the Home thing. I can already see myself telling my friends to meet at 5:30 to play NHL2008 and while we are waiting for the late comers we can watch "last night hot replays" on my phat TV in my place lol

The "my home" feeling is existent in every MMO. People hang out in major cities while waiting for their friends to log online. Sony\'s Home going to have great success..

I dont know about some of you but for me Sony did something MS didnt, something unique to consoles and it has the potential to surpass Live as a whole. If it hasnt already

I wouldn\'t get carried away uni, but yeah, it definitely has potential. Painting it as an mmo interface like Nolaws did, makes it sound pretty cool.

i\'m not really excited about this, as i loathe social networking sites.

the trophy room/achievement stuff might be cool, but i find socializing in a 3D environment beyond lame.

It\'s the wave of the future. One day, chat rooms will be like this. Maybe even forums.

Some of my fondest memories of the computer are the times I spent using a chat program that represented people with avatars in a 2D environment. It was text based and the words appeared from the avatar like in a comic book.  Like here, once you get to know the group, it\'s a lot of fun.

I think Home could carry a similar charm if it\'s done right, and that\'s very inviting.

Most of us probably hate the idea of social networking, but lets face it, Sony is trying to market to a wider audience now.

They\'ve learned well from the sims, social networking brings in the female gamers (or just females in general), and that\'s a huge and rich market.  Kids and teens will also go for this even if they aren\'t classic \'gamers\'.  It\'s a smart move, just not one that I think appeals to my definition of a gamer (or myself, for that matter).

i think it could be something great, but i kinda agree with nvidia in that you will have little immature a**holes online cursing and throwing all kinds of racial slurs all over the place....that is the only thing that i can think of that will probably ruin the experience.

Oh yeah thats one of the best attemps I ve ever seen. Very innovative and interesting :)

I dowloaded both GDC presentations of LBP and Home from gametrailers and I must say I am speechless.

Who ever havent watched those, try them. You ll be surprised by the work Sony has put to both

Little Big Planet is the game I\'ve been waiting for.  Finally a game that is so original and has so much creativity to it.  I don\'t think I\'ve ever seen a game this creative yet so simple.  The possiblities are nearly endless.

As for home,  I was chatting with someone across the PSN last night and it was fusterating and slow as possible.  Home will change that.

So you think the addition of 3D avatars and environments to your chat is going to speed up the process?

Home is meh. Not something that would get people to buy a PS3. It just seems like Sony\'s way of trying to implement as many micro-transactions as possible into their "free" online service.

LBP on the other hand looks really fun. I don\'t know if it has killer app potential though.
