That\'s great ! A new way to meet people, spend free time...playing games, bowling and watching movies and socialize :)
What do you think ?

A very welcome feature on the PS3\'s online service. I like it despite that I am not very fond of similar PC programs.
This looks easy, direct in use, beautiful and it\'s not independent from PS3\'s games. The trophy room, ranking\'s, game videos etc add and broaden the PS3\'s gaming experience.
This is an expanded XMB, in a beautiful skin

Home is the best thing to have ever happen to Playstation. Home could make PS3 the best console ever. PS2 was just PS1 with better graphics and not much new.
PS3 and home is fullfilling Sony\'s dream of what they wanted Playstation to be.
Some facts about home that I like:
- available in October
- 64 players can fit in one public space
- Ability to stream video off your HDD to others
- Ability to stream music off your HDD to others
- Going into a game room and bowling/playing pool with other people seamlessly in real time.
- It\'s free (extras cost $. They gotta pay for this somehow)
- The Apartment feature. Nothing but a glorified 3-D chat room but cool nevertheless.
-
With this and Motorstorm and Blu-Ray, I\'m finally interested in PS3. If only it\'d come down a couple hundred. :)
-
I wonder how much they pay clowd to be a walking Sony advertisement....
With that said, Home looks interesting. Nothing I\'d really utilize but I can see the appeal.

the blu-ray is what makes it the couple hundred more
i know im stating the obvious but..meh..u get it:D
and i would say 20 bucks and a handjob, phil. \'some facts i like about it:\' lol
seems like a good idea but it still doesnt get my to buy it. Need shadow of the collosus 2, god of war 3, and a few others to be worth the money

HOME - MORE QUESTIONS/ANSWERS FROM SONY
This time, we put questions to Sony on presence, navigation, features and moderation within Home…
What’s the function of the lobby and what is the maximum number of users that can be in a lobby?
“The lobby is the central meeting place where you can meet new friends or arrange to meet old friends, before transferring to a private meeting place. The current maximum of concurrent users in a lobby is 64.”
So how do you make sure friends are present in the same space?
“You can invite them via your friends list or invite them to your personal Home space.”
How will we all go about finding people within the Home world?
“We will have search functions for finding people online and offline, and for finding lobbies.”
Will you create lobbies by countries/regions?
“Yes, although users can choose where they want to go.”
How many avatars can I have?
“The current plan is for each Network account to be able to build one avatar, although you can have as many accounts as you like, giving you endless avatar options. Home is the human face of PlayStation Network, and your avatar is how you represent yourself. However, it will be possible to change your appearance, through customising your character and adding accessories, so you’ll be able to constantly re-invent yourself should you so desire.”
And I’ll be able to customise my avatar?
“Avatars are fully customisable with different facial features, height, weight, sex, hair styles, clothing, accessories, etc.”
What about using game characters as my avatar? Or can I use photo data to personalise my avatar (such as using photo data as the skin for my avatar’s face)?
“Not initially - however, we will extend the variety and selection of characters over time, including game characters and pets. Photo data is not supported at this time - however, the face customisation is very detailed and allows an almost infinite variety of faces to be created.”
Can you enter a game like MotorStorm quickly through Home without having to travel to the specific MotorStorm lobby?
“Currently, users can find each other in Home, and then arrange to go off and play MotorStorm at the same time. Eventually, users will be able to meet in Home and seamlessly launch into a game of MotorStorm. Similarly, users will be able to exit to Home directly from the game.”

LITTLEBIGPLANET - HIGH-RES FOOTAGE

Dont forget about Little Big Planet, probably THE game of this generation. Its gonnna move hundreds of thousands of PS3\'s consoles, I think SONY is finally do something very, very wise, and its going to pay off in system sales.
-
Home definitely sounds awesome. Nintendo made some snide comment to a magazine "This is their Mii-too approach. We had a similar idea and rejected it." Definitely not something I\'d be bragging about.
It\'s free (extras cost $. They gotta pay for this somehow)
Fanboy. ;)

What places and or things would you like to see in HOME ?
Me:
1) McDonalds
2) Tattoo Shop
3) Outdoor Parks
4) Gym and pool
5) night club
6) old and famous harcade games
7) GTA4 full of on-line features and modes
8) GT5 and huge garages full of ultra customized cars to buy, sell, exchange plus little shop of every kind of accessories :D plus downloadable tracks and editors for brand new tracks !
9) A new gen Tekken with special Home on-line features/modes to fight in 8-12-16 players in huge and interactive places
Can you imagine how many possibilities and new ideas can be implemented during PS3 life ?
-
I love the "tattoo" Idea. Would be fun to have some special tattos available when you complete games.
-
Is this service free? If so I could see the appeal looks nice. I am not into gaming online. Had a bad experience and couldn\'t get back into it. But if thats your thing it would be cool

##RACER## is right, don\'t forget about little big planet. I see infinite potential in that game. Yet the odd thing is the game itself is so simple. For example the PC game \'Spores\' looks to have infinite potential as well but the game looks to be 100x as complex as LittleBigPlanet. Yet Little Big Planet seems to have a similiar amount of potential. Why didnt anyone think of the concept for Little Big Planet before? Genius.
Call me a PS3 fanboy/walking advertisement all you want, but this is great news for Playstation 3. I did call Home a possible Xbox Live Killer but that was merely out of fusteration. For the last 5 years all I heard was how Xbox Live was the god of online gaming and was one of the many reasons the 360 is better then the PS3.
Now are we going to hear people whine about how they have to pay for Xbox Live even though in time it won\'t have as many cool features as HOME?
Competition makes each console better. Maybe this will make Microsoft rethink how much they charge for Xbox Live

...there\'s a first time for everything :) I really like the concept and the style of this game...so original !

sry but..you\'re frusterated about hearing about how much better live was than playstations? I had a ps2 and the online was shit, and theres a reason it was free. And live was way better hence why they could charge for it. Now it seems to be on the same trend, but maybe Home will make it worth while. But seeing as \'you get what u pay for\' has been the case ever since sony had free online, M$ isnt going to be making any price changes until Home cuts into their profits, which is probably too late since people are already set whether they do or dont want to pay for Live.
Why you give sony the benefit of the doubt that theyre going to have an amazing, free service is beyond me.
-
You get what you pay isn\'t the case throughout the online world.
PC Battlefield 2 & Battlefield 2142 offer online gaming that matches or exceeds anything on Xbox live but its free.
I\'ve played several PC racing games online free with voice chat etc everything you could want.
Great online gaming does not have to come at a price.
Check out http://www.zone.com, Microsoft\'s own online gaming website since the mid 90s.
Absolutley free. Friends lists, chatting, everything. Did Microsoft need to charge me $60 a year to use this service? No. But they want to charge you $60 a year to use Xbox Live which offers how many more features?
Playstation 2 online got the job done imo, but it was not even close to Xbox Live. Why? Sony never even tried to make an online service for PS2.
But because of competition, Sony is now going to roll out thier own online service.
No reason to have to give sony the benefit of the doubt that theyre going to have an amazing, free service. They\'ve already confirmed what will be free and what will cost money in HOME. What is free in HOME surpasses Xbox Live in every way. The only faith needed in Sony is for them to give free what they promised they will give free which is pretty much a 100% chance.
Believe me, I use to be just like you and think you had to pay money for great online gaming.
After thinking about it for a while and looking back at my experience with online PC gaming I can tell you for a certainty that great online gaming can be free.
Why Microsoft charges for voice chat features/gamerpoints is beyond me. Is there anything else on Xbox Live worth $60 a year? If I want to download TV episodes, movies etc I can use free ITUNES to do so.
Once again, competition is good. What Sony is doing with HOME hopefully will force Microsoft to charge less or make Xbox Live free. But as you say Microsoft probalby won\'t change anything until they feel HOME is a threat.
-
1) you compared pc\'s to consoles..............................
2) Im not saying that free is bad, just going by trends, the free service has been inferior to the ones you pay for. So just to fall for their marketing scheme instead of waiting for it and having actual proof bugs me. Of course theyre going to build it up and blow smoke up customers butts
to me, it has potential. But looking at their past and looking at it being free again doesnt exactly make it a HOMErun (ahhhhhaha...pun)
-
PCs and Consoles are two different beasts, but when it comes to online play there is no reason why one should excel over the other. If its possible to make great online gaming on the PC the same should be so with Next-Gen consoles.
PS2 did not have an online service. It was just the developers on their own with their own servers and thier own money etc. A PS2 Online Service is a myth. Sony never tried to make one. It never was free and it never cost money. Sony just gave you a network adapter to connect to 3rd party online games. Thats all they had to do with PS2 online gaming.
Also remember Viper_Fujax HOME is not ENTIRELY free. It seems a good portion of it will require $. I\'m sure the free part of it will be the bare bones basics aka XBox Live Bronze package (if thats what they call it). For example a free apartment will probably be a 1 bedroom flat. But a $ apartment will have 3 levels, a pool table, arcade machines, an inground pool and an oceanside view with a great wood deck :D
So as stated above expect the bare basics of HOME to be free but I\'m sure Sony knows there will be so many extra great features that cost $ and that almost everyone that is a part of HOME will fork over $ for extra features. The idea is this: Make it free to get everyone into it, but then nickel and dime them while they are inside.
And one more thing, you say PS2 online was crap...you didn\'t like the days of the PSX2CENTRAL Madden? Playing online with the Madden games was hardly ever crap in my eyes...but that was the only PS2 game I played online though. If the others sucked I wouldnt know

Pretty cool indeed & it\'s optional to the XMB. Still, unless i desperately wanna play a PAL PS3 launch game, there\'s no direct incentive to do an impulse PS3 purchase.
Actually... I\'ll wait deciding until PS3\'s 65nm Cell is tried and true and if MS has revealed their 120Gb HDMI Xbox360.

65nm Cell Chip Production Starts !
IBM announced today a significant step towards PlayStation 3 cost-cutting, as the chip maker announced the production of a 65nm version of the Cell processor.
The Cell launched as a 90nm processor. The 65nm version will be manufactured at IBM’s East Fishkill, New York plant.
IBM created the chip with Sony and Toshiba in a collaboration which began in March 2001. IBM recently began reaching out to game developers to help them harness the Cell\'s potential.
A Sony exec recently said that a move to a 45nm Cell would occur in late 2008 or early 2009.

Live is free if you only play on weekends, for what it\'s worth.
-
all weekends or just certain random ones?
can\'t find anything stating that
-
iv never heard of live being free on the weekends. I\'d never buy it if it were, so i dont think that\'s true. Then again i bought my service before trying that out.
-
Looks like I\'m mistaken. Or, maybe the plan changed since how it was originally.
Too bad, because I was thinking of switching to the free plan.

It\'s basically everything except the best part, heh.
Then, I guess this means free weekends sometimes: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/features/freetrialweekends.htm (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/features/freetrialweekends.htm)

Seems the vision of home is very near its completion
The Home world that was shown in Monte Carlo is completely different than the one first shown at the Game Developer’s Conference last year. Gone are the claustrophobic indoor spaces and the doors that lead to badly marked areas like the arcade. Now players are transported to a vibrant outdoor town square with huge buildings that clearly illustrate what there is to do.
The movie theater has two floors for further expansion beyond the initial 10 screens. The bowling alley offers the virtual bowling and arcade. Within the town square, underneath some trees, are the chess and checkers tables. The games will be a great way for players to break the ice when meeting new friends in Home, according to Festejo.
“When building this new town square, we were heavily influenced by cities like Las Vegas, the Sony Center in Berlin and New York City’s Times Square,” said Festejo. “This world is friendly and open and encourages players to mingle.”
Another business model that will unfold as Home evolves is the aforementioned movies, music and TV show offerings, which are expected to offer rental and purchase models. Microsoft already has most of the Hollywood studios (sans Sony, of course) offering TV shows for purchased in HD or standard definition and HD or standard movies for rental. Sony is expected to follow suit and Sony Online Entertainment has been building the technology to bring this aspect of Home to life.
Sony has also sent out Home Developer Kits for partners to build assets and lobbies, this means both traditional game developers and mainstream brands will become part of the Home world over time, Festijo added.
I wonder how, excluding the 3D interface, its business model described will compete with XBOX Live.
Marketplace is literally filled with tons of goodies (arcade games are scarce at PS Store), and is much more accessible than PSN currently. Also MS is targeting online rental distribution. The in-game menu also helped farther into pulling people into its online offerings (such as MSN intergration), but it seems that Sony is trying to compete in similar aspects.
The two consoles align and at the same time are battling in their efforts to diversify the same experience. There was also an announcement some time ago that MS was going to offer something less developed but very similar to Home\'s lobby to the 360 as well.
Things will be very interesting on who is going to retain the top spot with gamers and the consumers once both develop fully their model.
