Title: Want to make a hamster cage

My girlfriend has a hamster and he\'s cool so I want to make him a bigger cage to play in.
 
I was thinking of two wire cages connected by some PVC pipe.
 
But I saw online a 3 tiered wire cage with wire ramps going up to each, and the whole thing rests over an aquarium with a long ramp leading down to it. That seems cool but I hear the mesh is bad for a hamster\'s feet.
 
Not sure what I\'m looking for. Maybe you guys have some fun ideas. Only thing I don\'t want to use are those crazy tubes. And this guy likes to climb so the wire is important. I\'m afraid in the tall one, though, he might scale the side, try to go upside down on the ceiling and end up falling really far.

they chew on everything, so try not to do the pvc, unless you wanna be kept awake all night.

this is my hamstercage, which I made myself... well... the nachos casing is only modified of course ;)
I think it looks pretty awesome

That cage is pretty cute.

I should get a hamster. I want a small pet for my apartment. I think it would be pretty cute. But I have no place for one :( How much do you usually buy one for?

Hamsters are like 5-20 bucks at a petshop.

Don\'t get one... You\'d have better luck with a gerbil. Hamsters have long fur and they sleep in their shit so it ends up looking like Cousin It after visiting the sewer.

Titan, if you really want to get a little pet get a rat, it will prove to be a much more enjoyable critter.

That and you can do \'scientific\' tests on it :ghey:

I\'d have to agree with getting a rat if you want a rodent for a pet.

guinea pigs are suprisingly cool too. But rats are probably the best just because they dont make as big of a mess

hamsters are pretty clean animals, mine always makes sure his feces stay out of his nest. And he has short hair that he always keeps very clean (he washes himself like twice a minute)

I think it depends on the type of hamster you get. I advise you get a russian or a roborovsky hamster.


I used to have gerbils too when I was little. They are pretty cool too, but they tend to bite your fingers of ;)
