Click on the brand, the model and when you get to the set of pics, you can refresh the screen to get a different set of pics until you see the type of photos you\'re interested in like portraits, landscape, sports....etc
Then click on the picture to see more of the same example.

I don\'t know if any of you are around point and shoot cameras a lot, but I\'ll ask anyway. What do you guys think of the SD1000?
-
There\'s something similar @ http://www.dpchallenge.com. You can search by cam and lenses too.

For a point and shoot camera with an ISO setting from 80 to as high as 1600, I\'m impressed. ISO 80, you\'ll need a steady hand or tripod for those indoor shots where you want to use natural lighting. My XTi goes as low as 100 only but I\'ve got a great lens to compensate. This camera also has an auto ISO setting, that\'s convienient when you just want to shoot and shoot without fiddling with the settings.
The camera\'s lens already is in zoom out mode. When you "zoom in", you\'re really just going by the human eye sight depth. But that\'s useful for group photos. My fixed lens has me backing up 30 feet to get a group photo. Luckily, I still have my old Olympus point and shoot digital for shots like that.
Get it.

The main thing I don\'t like about the SD series is that they offer ONLY a full auto exposure mode. (Called "Program AE") There is no semi-auto or full manual mode on the SD series.
I think that\'s OK if you have a backup camera to use for situations where you have to do some shutter or aperture adjustments. However, I would never own an SD as my only digital camera. Much too limiting.

Yeah, but if he has no intention of going beyond the party shots or wide tourist shots, then he won\'t out grow the camera.
But if he intends to do even some form of novice photography, he\'ll have to go SLR.
-
Yea, I just want something simple for hanging out with friends and such. I just had heard rumblings that it wasn\'t as good as the SD600 and everywhere I go it\'s not able to power up. I figure for 225$ it\'s not a bad camera though.
-
Even in "party shots" I find myself adjusting aperture to create an appropriate depth of field. Also, I love to use available light whenever possible. You usually need to force the camera to do that by opening the aperture and lowering the shutter speed.
But that\'s just me.

Boz, did you check this out?

Try looking at Pentax. They make some nice point and shooters too.

Just steal your brothers Olympus, if he ever buys it that is.

I just switched to Sony.. Had a old Canon DC but I wanted to try something new, maybe a systemcamera? So I snooped around, and found that the DSLR-Alpha 100 was perfect for me, built in Super Steady Shot etc. Very nice camera, impressed the hell out of me. Use a 2GB MemoryStick Pro Duo so i can take about 480 pics in JPEG format.
Thinking of getting one of those Carl Zeiss lenses, but they cost about 14000 SEK or 2100 USD. :running:
Here are some pics I took.

18-70 mm lens. 18mm bends the image quite a bit.

Quite boring, I dont have so many stored on this computer.

Fastson, I like those pics you took of the gun.
I\'m getting a new digital camera within the next couple weeks. I\'m deciding between the Canon SD900 and SD1000. They both seem really good but I like the SD900 the best. It has good reviews and looks sexy like samwise when he goes tanning :gfight:

Hey guys, I was considering getting this camera ~> http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1847867,00.asp (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1847867,00.asp)
The Nikon D2X 12.3 Megapixels. I\'ve been eyeing this one for quite some time. Have any of you had experience with Nikon cams?
Some sample pics from the site Gman gave ~> http://www.pbase.com/cameras/nikon/d2x
Not sure what methods they used to take these pictures or what ISO levels they used.

Jeez man...you\'re a lot more serious about photography than I am. That thing is built like a tank too. My camera is NOT to be dropped or it\'s dead. This D2X is solid.

Is it a red x? I\'m not seeing the pics at work...but at home, it was there. Hmmm...
-
what was that lens you reccommended for the rebel XT wa while back, Gman? I\'m in the market for a lens that doesn\'t have a fixed focal length

You mean the canon EF 85 mm f 1.8 USM? That\'s a fixed focal length. The pics I posted is the lens I used.
If you want the end-all-be-all lens, spend money for the last time and get this
http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-EF-70-200mm-f-2.8-L-IS-USM-Lens-Review.aspx
It\'s $1700 but you can get the $1100 version without the image stablizer.
You want pro-level pics, you gotta pay up. :)

Thanks for the link, man. And I want to get into photography with a good camera. I\'m also about to buy a house and get married, so I don\'t want to capture these memories on a non-crappy camera. ;) I\'ll probably get a professional photographer for the wedding, but I want to take my own pics with a quality camera.
Do you guys have any recommendations for lenses? I\'ve seen the Carl Zeiss lenses and they are top notch and I may even fork out the dough...I just want to make sure that my purchase is a solid one. I\'m just getting into photography, so I\'m a bit of a noob. But money is not an issue when it comes to something that will be taking timeless pictures.
-
Hey Evi, I don\'t think Carl Zeiss lenses are necessary. I mean sure if you\'re Bill Gates, then go right ahead, but for us mere mortals it\'s not worth it. Actually, it\'s the same with the camera. A bit overkill. :)
Besides, you\'re new to photography? You can get a great camera for much less and some good Nikon lenses as well, if that\'s the brand you like. Since tech moves so fast your camera is going to feel old in just a few years, where as good lenses will last for decades. So it\'s better to spend more money on lenses vs. camera, since the 3000+ dollars you spend on a camera today, will be worth like 1000 dollars in a few years, where better cams are available. So I suggest you spend about 1000-1500 on a camera, nothing more (unless you\'re a pro who needs the extra speed or whatever).
If I were in your shoes I\'d get a Nikon D80 + some good lenses (be sure to read lots of reviews on lenses since they can differ quite a bit in quality, however it\'s relatively easy to get some nice ones).
Personally I\'m a Canon guy so I\'d go for a Canon 400D (or XTi or whatever it\'s called over there). :)
EDIT: For lens reviews see http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/index.html and http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/

That\'s awesome, thanks for the links...and the advice. :) Money really isn\'t an issue, but I see what you\'re saying about lenses. I\'ll definitely consider my options before making a purchase. Being n00bish sucks, but I guess we all must start somewhere.
Edit: Nice pics, Gman. Lenses really do make a big friggin\' difference.
-
Excellent advice, Sammie. It\'s true that today\'s digital SLRs have a limited lifetime of around 50,000 shots (for my 400D). Seems like a lot but if you\'re going to be a photographer, that\'s about no more than 10 years worth max (unless you have three other cameras).
The lenses do last significantly longer. I\'m more of a canon guy so my lens experience will take me only as far as what I search. You probably know more about Nikon. I would stick to and equivalent of the Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM Lens - a lens that can do everything AND a lens that can do macro/wide shots. Two lenses that cover everything from macro and portraits to racing (which covers pretty much all the sports in terms of speed).
Hope to see your work soon!

I got to get out in the backyard with Mila yesterday... there\'s better pics than this, but I\'m at work...also reduced it 50% with mspaint here....

whoops:)

Mmmkay...nice cameras rock. That\'s a great pic, Chiz.

Can you make the pic a little bigger, Chizz? ;)
-
Sure, if we can post 3.78 MB files ;)
-
Got my Konica-Minolta 70-210 f/4 "beercan" lens.. Very heavy duty, built like a fortress. Takes nice pics I think, some test shots.
-
Nice photos Fasty! You got the Sony Alpha-thingy right?
I got a Canon 350D but I haven\'t really had any good opportunities to use it yet, which is a bit of a shame really. But I\'m taking it to the states for my brother\'s wedding so at least it should come to some good use there. :)
Now if only I had money to blow on lenses and hookers. :D
-
I took some cool long exposures the other nite, I\'ll reduce \'em and post \'em later. `

Yep, Alpha 100. I went from a Canon IXY 300a, so it was a huge step up. ;)
I got it mostly for the built in SuperSteadyShot, something I always wanted to have on the Canon.
Took some shots of mother nature waking up. Finally summer is here (please note, once the temp reaches 30 degrees summer starts to suck).

I have an old Canon A-1 (http://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/companies/canon/fdresources/SLRs/a1/html/spec.htm) I love this camera to death, it was the first camera released with a digital light meter.
I have several lenses too. I have a 25mm, a 50mm & a 200mm zoom lens, along with a few filters. Will these lenses work on a newer Canon Digital SLR?
-
EF lens? I would say so.

here\'s one...it\'s just a frog candleholder that\'s on my patio with roots from ivy that I ripped out. Lighting is from 3 tiki torches around the patio. 45 second exposure.
