Title: Show your PC
Post by: Samwise on May 25, 2007, 07:09:33 AM
It\'s been a while since we\'ve had one of these threads.

So what PC are you running?

I\'m still using that old POS that I wrote about 3-4 years ago. :D

For those who can\'t remember (that would be all of you):

Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz @ 2.7 GHz
Asus P4PE motherboard
1 gigs of RAM
Nvidia 6800 GT
Chieftec Dragon case

I got more HD space over the years though, I have 700+ gb right now. And a 20" ViewSonic monitor.

I\'m looking to upgrade very soon, but I don\'t want to spend a lot, since all the good stuff comes out in 1-2 years. So in the meantime I think I\'ll get a E4400 and overclock it, 2 gigs of DDR2 and a 7900GT.

Then next year or 2009 I\'ll upgrade to Nehalem, DDR3, Nvidia 9800 GTX or whatever.

haupauge tv card

logitech z5400 5.1
mirai 19" widescreen

it does the job....

I\'ve had this current machine for over 2 years now, I upgraded the processor, but that\'s about it.  Probably gonna upgrade sometime in 2008, does everything I need to do and then some.

Dual Core AMD Opteron 165 @ 2.4ghz
2 Gigs of DDR500 Memory
(1) 250GB Hitachi (sata) & (2) 80GB Seagates (IDE)
eVGA 7900gt (voltmodded)
19" CRT (gonna get a 24" LCD soon... or maybe dual 20.1"s)

Next upgrade will be the latest and greatest.. whatever is better between AMD & Intel.  Especially at video editing/encoding.  That\'s mainly all I do anymore on it anyway... if I had the money I would really like a C2D system... but i\'m getting by just fine.

Here\'s my tried & true system, slowly upgraded over the years:

P4 2.8ghz Northwood Core @ 3.4 w/Zalman cooler
ATi x1950Pro w/Arctic Cooler
1GB Kingston DDR400 ValuRam
Asus P4P800-SE
Fortron 400w PSU w/120mm fan
Antec Sonata II Case
Zalman Fan Speed Controller
2 Seagate 400gb HDs
Viewsonic 19" 2ms LCD

I thought I\'d be upgrading to a C2D sooner but I moved to the city and have little time for gaming these days.

Woohoo, I knew nO-One wouldn\'t disappoint. :D

How do you like the Asus board? I\'ve been thinking about getting it, but then I heard some problems with Vdroop or something. (EDIT: My bad, I was thinking about the non-32 version)

And good catch about the title. ;) Although I didn\'t bother to take any photos of my PC because it\'s rather bland looking. Just imagine a greyish Dragon case and you\'re there. :)

I have a Mac Pro
2 dual core 2.66gHz
3 gigs of RAM
ATI Radeon X1900 XT 512 mb ram
Not sure what kind of sound card it has.
2 wide screen 19 inch LCD screens.

Well if we add the Macs
The big one here is a maxed out quad Mac Pro, 30" ACD
Quad G5 maxed out 23" ACD
Dual G4 (last Quicksilver edition) LaCie 22" CRT
15" Macbook Pro C2D

and at work a 20" iMac G5 1,8Ghz that\'s still chugging along

Well, then I\'ll add:

MacBook 2 Ghz, 1 gb RAM, 80 gig HD.

At the moment i only have my Dell precision M65 notebook workstation.

pic : http://members.home.nl/hkonings/M65_Knot3D%20010.jpg (http://members.home.nl/hkonings/M65_Knot3D%20010.jpg)

15.4 inch non-glare wide screen with magnesium chassis.
Core2Duo T7400 @ 2,16Ghz
2 Gb ram
80Gb 7200rpm Hitachi HD
Nvidia Quadro FX350M

I really love this laptop. The chassis is ultra sturdy. Way more solid than alot of those plastic flashy designer styled laptops. Macbook Pro, you say ? Nice indeed, but those don\'t have a Maya certified Quadro card.

MSI Plantium Neo Board
X1950XT 256
2 gigs DDR
900 gigs storage > all SATA
Floppy Drive
OCZ PSU
Xlico Case

Then there is my laptop, iMac and other system I am building for file storage.

Lets see....

Dell Inspiron 9300
Pentium M 1.86GHz
GeForce Go 6800 256MB
80 GB hard drive
1 GB RAM
standard laptop sound card
laptop came with a USB tv tuner, remote
Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
TrueLife display

Hey, this computer rocks for a laptop. Its pretty fast for what I do (internet, videos, porn, imaging). I need to free up some RAM and defrag the hard drive and get an external hard drive, but I love it.

That\'s just the thing the kinks, being a pc enthusiast for a great majority of my life, I have reached the point where I know prefer hardware or a PC that has finises, that is built strong stable and solid, a computer that is made to be 100% productive with ease of use.

There is only one pc that can do this and sadly it the over-hyped of a cult culture, APPLE Computers.

Actually, the bigger fans are often less noisy because they move more air at lower rpm\'s. So a good quality 120mm fan is preferred over 80mm or 92mm fans. :)

I like \'em. I will eventually be able to see it, just not at this moment. Plus it came with LED\'s and if I am gonna have LED\'s, I want some red ones.

Already dorked the case, when I added the old 60\'s Batman Logo to the window.

:D

This is my previous case / aka the soon to be file server.

Here\'s a shitty shot of my setup.

MacPro Quad with 5 gigs of ram.  Right now 1.2 terrabytes of storage soon to double.

I have (2) 22 inch monitors for my desktop and my new baby on the left, a 20 inch HD monitor that is fucking sweet.  LMD-2050.  Very very happy with it.  Stunning 10 bit 1080p display.

Then I have a macbook pro that I take on the road, a dual core AMD 64 in another room.  My kid has a dell, forget what speed it is, but it\'s prety darn nice.  and another laptop that is just gaining dust.  I have another computer that I may put in a closet for just music, but they have those network drives now that I may just get instead.

Thank you, kind Sir.

I should note that within a week, the 250MM side fan shorted out, it sparked and my system refused to boot as long as that fan was plugged in. I contacted Xclio, which is located in Taiwan, within two days they responded and offered to airmail me a replacement fan, free of charge. I haven\'t received it yet, but if they do indeed come through on this replacement, I will give them five stars in the customer service department.

I just picked up an Acerl2002W LCD. Lovin\' the W/S format and finally got rid of the old CRT. Next paycheck, I am looking to add either a 500 gig HD or another videocard. Not sure..  After that, I\'ll start work on my DVR runnin\' MythTV.

Mine is for work though so it doesn\'t really count.  You aren\'t going to spend 10 grand on a personal computer.
