Title: Wooo Transformers
Post by: Samwise on July 04, 2007, 06:08:11 AM
It was actually pretty damn good (well good as in entertaining). I\'m not a transformers fan in the least, hell I didn\'t even know that Octimus Prime was from Transformers (somewhere in the deep dark corners in the back of my mind I thought it was related somehow to MGS, but nevermind).

The cinematography was awesome as always with Michael Bay movies. Technically the movie is fantastic. The score was pretty good as well.

Megan Fox is just that... a fox. Hot damn.

I\'m having trouble figuring out what else to say. The action was sweet, but somehow I think Die Hard 4 was a bit better in the regard, even though it didn\'t feature giant robots fighting. Maybe it just has to sink in a bit. :D

The autobots were really well done, both rendering and animation.

So in conclusion - it\'s very entertaining, pretty funny and quite moving some times. And Megan Fox is hot. Very hot. So it\'s a thumbs up!

Only cool parts were when they slowed down the robot fights or actually zoomed out so you could see wtf was going.  The rest of the time they zoomed in on their knee caps and shook the camera around so all you saw was a big hunk of metal moving, feels like they took the easy way out to make it look somewhat realistic.

The silly dynamic between the boy and his folks when he tried to get the glasses w/ the autobots in the backyard was annoying the piss outta me.  Guess they were trying to make a non-funny situation funny.

And that\'s aboot it.  I still thought it was decent :)

OCTIMUS PRIME FTW!!!

It was incredibly stupid and even sometimes boring during the action sequences, which I didn\'t think would be possible.  OK, I don\'t expect the story to be brilliant, but at least it should be a little bit logical.  Throughout the first half of the film, this scorpion-like transformer is following the soldiers through the desert...  Why?  It\'s proven it can kill them at will, so why doesn\'t it?

I agree with what THX said about the visual effects shots.  It seemed they were moving the camera around excessively to conceal the poor quality of their animation.  I thought the transforming effect were weak.  When they transformed, it seemed that every square inch of the robot erupted with a panel folding, a strut shooting out, or some other tiny piece of hardware spinning around.  It would have been more effective if they had larger sections moving in a logical manner.  Of course that would have required the designers to figure out how one of these things would transform in the real world, and build an accurate model.  Too much work.  Just make everything explode and reassemble, and then we don\'t have to worry about it...

Come on... Of course they are, I don\'t understand why they just didn\'t model the damn bots after the cartoon ones. They could have spiced and glossed them up, but I kind of agree with core. I think they should have kept with the old school cartoon on it.

I guess it\'s just because I\'m not a Transformers geek, but I thought they looked great.

I agree for someone that doesn\'t follow or didn\'t watch it when they were younger it probably looks fanfuckingtastic. Same goes for comic book movies, for those that don\'t follow them or know little about them it is easier for them to get in to the movies than the comic book geeks who will watch the movie and sit there and disect every little parts of the movie to look for things that piss them off.

I was never a Transformers fan. Of the toys or the cartoons and I know what to expect from Michael Bay. I just want to see some robots bigger than my house kick the shit out of eachother while I scarf down milkduds and popcorn.

I think if I have time i\'ll have to check out Die Hard too after reading the reviews here at the site. After I watch 1, 2, and 3 of course. First one has something to do with glass? ;)

You definitely should check out the Die Hard series. Great fun.

And just to make things clear... Transformers isn\'t a masterpiece. The fact that Michael Bay made it should make that clear. :)

I guess it was because of my low expectations (and knowing I\'d be in for a Michael Bay Ride(tm)) that I found myself actually liking it. But make no mistake, it has its fair share of stupid moments - but for me, the cool robots made up for that. Your mileage may vary. :)

yeah, and on the other hand i have never found the Die Hard series all that great. Nice, but far from great. Slightly cheesy macho stuff. most of the time i really hate macho attitude.

Today I remembered something I liked about the Transformers movie.  John Turturro\'s performance as the wacky Sector Seven agent was entertaining.

Die Hard 4 was better.  In fact, I would recommend all the Die Hard films except the second one.  I think 3 might have been the best.

^^^heh, that was pretty cool actually thx! how do you find this stuff?..:D....i couldn\'t see who was actually in those costumes but it looked like there was americans in the background there,...i would\'ve thought somebody from Japan would\'ve created somethin\' like that!...

As far as the movie is concerned i\'ll probably wait for dvd, but i too wish that they would have used the old models....

saw it tuesday night... great action movie

I didn\'t go into it with any super high expectations.. one thing is, I didn\'t expect it to be as funny as it was.  That was pleasantly surprising...

The action was good, but I too thought the camera work was a bit of of wack in some of the fight scenes... especially the first one between an outobot & decepticon (bumblebee & police car.. prowl?) I was like WTF happened there.  And Optimus Prime looked like a pussy compared to Megatron.. I thought they were a little more evenly matched in the cartoons?

And gee... I wonder if they are gonna make another one with that ending

How can someone not enjoy big robots beating the crap out of each other? But then again, I love the cartoons...Even the crappy ones.

It seemed like the scale was a bit off sometimes. Often they\'d look pretty damn big, but in other shots they were more humble.

For example, the first time Sam sees Bumble Bee as a robot, it looks pretty fucking huge, many times the length of a Camaro. But later on, it\'s more like twice the size of a car (in robot shape that is).

I saw it last monday. I was expecting huge disappointment but strangely I loved it. I am not that satisfied with the models although I liked them, because they didnt resemble at all the transformers I knew. Only Optimus did.

I prefered Frank Welker for Megatron\'s voice. And definitely Megatron and Starscream should have been more similar to the Generation1 transformers. If they made Optimus remind of the old why couldnt make these two as well? They were like a trademark for the series.

Some differences were too extreme. Some robots I think didnt even exist previously.

Generally though the movie was very enjoyable for me.

I\'m pretty sure all the robots in the movie existed previously in the cartoons, their cars were different, but their names/personalities were for the most part the same.

Ok, i\'ve seen it Juli 6th.

First of all : i was already OK, with the designs. Somehow i just love Starscream\'s design ALOT better than the G1 version.

Speaking of which ; imo, Starscream had too little screentime. In the scenes he does appear he does indeed kick major butt.

The scene where Scorponok battles that survivor squadron drags on way too long.

The way the military takes down Blackout wasn\'t really convincing to me.

As for action scenes : the Optimus VS Bonecrusher scene was awesome. Other battle scenes in the city streets were a bit too overcomplicated/hectic, regarding shot framing & timing.

The CGi & character animation was pure love though.

I\'d rate the movie a 7.5 out of 10

This is exactly why so much shit comes out of Hollywood.  Why do people go to movies where they expect to not like it?  That\'s a lot of money to spend on shit....

I mean this movie is good, but why go see it if you don\'t think you\'ll like it?

Thinking and knowing are 2 different ball games. Isn\'t it obvious why he went to see it, he wanted to confirm his thoughts on the movie.

I\'d rather underestimate a movie and think it\'ll be shit to find out it isn\'t bad at all. To overestimate a movie to find its total rubbish.

You make no sense.  Why go to a movie if you think it\'s going to be bad?  Just to hope it will be good?  For 20 bucks?  Great reasoning.  So in other words, you could fuck a fat chick and have the same results.  You assume it\'s going to be bad, but who knows.  She could rock your world.

apples and oranges, you see. You might have a dickhead mate who says the movie is bad. So you start to think, its probably shit. Then another mate might say its ok. So you start to wonder.

A fat chick is something thats in front of you. Think of it this way, if you heard a chicks VOICE over a phone and thought, fuck that could be some good ass. Then you meet her and she\'s a whale, you\'re not gonna root her. Unless your sammy.

Seeing the fat chick is like seeing the movie, hearing her voice is like watching a trailer.

I hope you haven\'t denied yourself movies because of a retard thought put in there by mates or even just a self created idea.

I don\'t know what the cinemas are like in the \'States, but I know for a fact that I always find a movie more enjoyable in large groups of people. Perhaps I\'m just naturally gregarious, but I think most people would concur.

I used to have to drive 35 minutes to the  burbs to see a movie, even though I lived 3 minutes from one. I stopped going because it\'s on a bus line from the city, and there would always be fights / riots in the lobby & outside, muggings, and endless talking crying babies & cellphone abuse during the movie.

1) Childhood memories and a very big transformers fan

2) Wasnt 100% sure I was going to be disappointed. I still had some hope it wouldnt end up bad

3) Curiosity. I wondered how the movie adaptation would look like.

Believe me there are TONS of movies I didnt even put the effort to watch even though they gained fame.

Finally saw this earlier tonight...pretty decent,..it was actually better than i expected and the transformer models didn\'t irk me as much as they initially did at first, but i still would\'ve liked to have seen the more traditional models. The action was good, but because of all the complex gears and make-up of the the transformers themselves, you really couldn\'t see what was goin\' on clearly.....not great, but not bad either.

whelp that\'s some of the things you have to put up with when going to tha movies, which is why i don\'t go to the movies that often if at all...but to avoid that...

1 - Do not go and see the said movie on the opening weekend.

2 - Afterwards go to the matinee`(spel)

Follow those two simple rules and you avoid the mainstream audience....

I actually just got done watching this. I saw it in the theater and thought it was awesome.

decided to get the dvd. It\'s only 5 bucks more, but the box that turns into optimus prime isn\'t as cool as i was hoping. I thought it was going to be aluminum and relatively intricate, but all it is is cheap plastic that folds out. Hence the 5 bucks though..

Speaking of visual effects, that is EXACTLY what I disliked about it.  It seemed like the CG artists took the easy way out and made all the transformer parts shift, slide and rotate in random directions without the kind of mechanical logic that would have given them the appearance of real machines.  They really looked artificial to me.

Of course the script was idiotic and the casting was terrible for the most part, but you sort of expect that from a Michael Bay film.  As a director, his name is synonymous with shit.  I was hoping that at least the visual effects would be impressive.  I was disappointed.
