"According Game Informer magazine, a $399 40gig PS3 system is on the way, but it will have no backwards compatibility. They actually expected to hear the announcement at E3 on it. So they may have just heard different rumblings altogether."
WTF !?!?!?!?!
lol i bought Virtua Fighter 5 from a friend at work for $10.

$400? i\'d hit it

tempting. All id want to play is god of war 2, which id probably only play once. Sold the rest of my ps2 games
-
I dont understand why they would remove software emulation if it is somehow "free" for them.

to make people buy the more expensive one.

Its going to work :( My PS2 is done so I need a PS3 that can play all my PS2 and PSX games.
-
Don\'t the current PS3s actually have some PS2 hardware?
-
And don\'t the European PS3s already have the backwards compatibility stripped from them?
If Sony can cut the price by getting rid of it, I don\'t see why they shouldn\'t.

Yeah but for their die hards who have games all the way to the beginning suffer. I have PSX games and PS2 games I like to still play.

how much does a used PS2 cost right now? you can probably find one for under a 100 bucks.

Are we sure this is real? This is the only place I heard that.

Well backwards compatibility is still there and works very nice in EU. If you dont update your firmware from 1.5 to something higher you will certaintly have issues. Only some titles seem to have a few issues with the latest FW but these are getting fewer and fewer with each firmware released which improves and fixes problems

The last thing they need is another model out there. Focus on a price drop, sell the current units.
