Title: heavenly sword cutscene...
Post by: clips on August 07, 2007, 05:08:44 AM
whenever i cop a ps3, i\'ll definitely be gettin\' this game....and even tho this piece here is just a cutscene, they are really doin\' some amazin\' things with the facial animations....really impressive...

i have to be honest here tho....as great as this game looks,..i\'ve always thought the gameplay was kinda choppy, i mean it plays ok but it\'s just that i can\'t see all of the combos that she\'s doing,i\'ve heard that this game is runnin\' at 30 fps, that\'s gotta be what it is, cause at this point while the game does look great somethin\' about the gameplay bothers me a bit....i also don\'t like the fact that in order to block you have to choose a different fighting stance?..:(...that\'s just dumb!

The heroine looks like Tera Patrick but with smaller boobs. Awesome demo game, though a bit too short. I\'ll leave it up to you to search for Tera Patrick. :p

here\'s one of the boss battles from the game....it looks good......but the part where she\'s runnin\' toward the boss, the animation i think could be just a bit smoother, again if they could get this thing up to 60 fps, it would really improve the gameplay alot, well that and bein\' able to block in any stance....

this game does look pretty awesome. gametrailers has a longer video, i think from E3 that has that video from clips and more fighting in the same area. Then she goes on one of those tram type things in the air and shoots arrows at dudes..and it zooms on the arrow and it seems like u direct it mid-air and kill people. Cant explain it too well but it looked fun

Nah, its also confirmed 720p by developers themselves in their official site and in other forums. If they achieved everything they have done right now in either 60fps or 1080p they would have done the impossible.

Nevertheless it is still one of the most impressive titles to date.

From what I ve seen t\'s visuals and level of production are unsurpassed by any game of its kind. The developers have put huge amounts of effort and creativity in just about everything. Although I havent played the game, according to people who played the demo at PSN have the best things to say despite that it wasnt from the final build.

It also has the most impressive in game cut scenes I ve ever seen, both technically and artistically. Check this out.

This is one of the games that makes me reconsider which console I ll finally buy. I dont want to miss this.

....still, for such a game as this one, which is ALL about fancy fluid moves, 60 non-frame drop is a base requirement. Screw 1080P then.

i agree...god of war2 i believe moves at 60 fps and you can see all of the brutal combos that he does...it comes off lookin\' really smooth, i still think the game will be great, but that framerate might bring the gameplay down a bit...
and i know on other forums people are sayin\' "relax,.. the demo is not reflective of the final build" and that\'s probably true, but for the most part what you see is what you\'re most likely going to get...

The game will remain at steady 30fps in the final build. There a few drops in the demo which the developer said they will fix. This is what people are expecting to be improved in the final build and not the framerate jumping from 30fps to 60fps and it will NOT be 1080p.

Regardless the game is responsive and plays "smoothly" according to previews that have the best impressions about it. Its like resistance which is both responsive and fast for a FPS running at steady 30fps.

Oh, I\'m not complaining, I was just summing up the thread, as there was some confusion on exactly what resolution and frame rates are expected.

30fps with motion blur > 60fps without motion blur

Without motion blur, you move your eye, the images look choppy. There was a website about this debate.

Not really true....

it\'s all about frame drops. Inconsistent 60fps has a choppy feeling to it. No motion blur in the world which can really fix framerate fluctuations.

a solid locked framerate > frame drop.

Heavenly Sword really is a title which must be played to be believed !

Review! Total  9.7 !

Quote

The game will launch you into Nariko’s family home under siege by evil forces commanded by King Bohan which by the way is the nastiest villain you will ever come across. He is also accompanied by his inept son Roach. There is a huge plot twist in the opening cinematic which we will not spoil for anyone, but he helps determine how the game will be played through to the end. Just be prepared to totally abandon your life, friends and work, because Heavenly Sword will have you enthralled and totally hooked from beginning to end. The game itself is absolutely huge and completing it is no mean fete.

Graphically Heavenly Sword is stunning as already touched upon earlier but the audio presentation is something to behold. Apparently Sony managed to cram more than 10 gigabites for audio material in Heavenly Sword and we can easily see that’s the truth. From character speech right through to dramatic scores, this is what audio is all about. Battle music will leave you breathless and the voice acting alone is simply the best we have come across in years. Capcom take note. No more dodgy Resident Evil acting please.

Must Have for me ! :)

Must be me then, I tried the demo out and can say I was not impressed in the least. The animation seemed jerky and the gameplay was stale. Still, that was a demo and a lot of times demo\'s are reworked by the time the final build is done.

^^^that was one of my concerns about this game as well....(the jerky gameplay)....and it seems ign wasn\'t very happy with the overall game...

i think the score is a bit low, but i\'ll have to reserve judgement until i\'ve played the game myself...

Thats just one review btw. All other reviews so far from various magazines and sites are 8/10 and above. Excluding EDGE which reviews games differently.

IGN so far is probably the exception. The game doesnt seem to be of the reviewer\'s taste

I just purchaed this used, and while i do like some of the fighting mechanics, the siaxis gameplay kills it for me....it can be incredibly frustrating at times...to the point to where it\'s not even fun...idk...in my younger years i probably would\'ve manned up and keep this game regardless of the frustration level, but today i won\'t tolerate any game that is incredibly frustrating.

And both sony and ms has plans for motion controls?...geez stop riding the wii\'s dick and show some integrity and backbone by sticking to what works for you and your audience.....Seriously heavenly sword could be a brilliant experience without that siaxis garbage.....i haven\'t finished the game yet, but i\'m sure i\'m going to trade it in when i\'m done with it...shame really too.... graphics are pretty solid and the cutscenes are done really well, and some of the dialogue is actually funny....aggh!!.. i just can\'t get over that damn siaxis!!!...

i HATED it on the first mission you have to use it. it has a learning curve and the enemies are too close for you to get used to it. But it ends pretty shortly and once you get used to shooting the arrows its actually kind of fun. The next main part that uses it gives you a bunch of room between you and the bad guys so it\'s more forgiving

but i completely agree with the motion sensor shit..it\'s such a fad like 3d. As long as the games I want to play dont focus on it ill be fine, but even killzone\'s use of it gets borderline too much and all you do there is twist levers and arm c4\'s

the only thing that killed HS for me was how short the game was and no real incentive to go over it twice

I had an easy time with the sixasis.

Clips,

First,  the option to wimp out and use a thumb stick instead of the sixaxis has been available for this game since day one. However there are a few tips though that could possibly help to turn sixaxis frustration into joy:

Aim well before you fire. I found the temptation at first is to quickly fire off rounds and steer towards the desired target. It’s called “after touch” for a reason, works much better to make minor adjustments only.

Keep the controller level whenever you fire off a round. Not much use aiming  if you automatically need to make adjustments because you’re holding the controller slightly cockeyed. For me this is the number one reason the sixaxis is broken. I\'ve found no natural way to play and feel the controller is positioned properly when need be, barring that , I welcome the added dimension motion controls offer.  In fact Heavenly Sword’s arrow/cannonball riding, for a few brief spurts at least , were for me some of  the best  gaming moments I’ve ever experienced. Ah well, to each his own.

Also one thing I didn’t realize until I watched my wife or one of my daughters play, in close quarters Kia’s weapon is much more effective used as a straight-up gun , no slow-mo arrow riding required.

I finally beat the game...and i like how the gameplay of the end boss isn\'t that cheap.... and by that i mean......
The end boss has 3 seperate forms of beating him, so if you die while fighting in the 2nd or 3rd form, the game doesn\'t take you ALL the way back to it\'s first form...small nitpick yes, but that takes keeps the game from being incredibly frustrating, and i\'m glad the dev\'s implemented that in the game
.

And i decided that i\'m going to keep the game...yeah the sixaxis still frustrates the s**t outta me, but outside of the sixaxis gameplay i actually like the sword fighting and there\'s something about the story that i generally like...i know it\'s nothin\' special, but i have a thing for it...it was lightheartedly funny like the hercules and xena shows that used to come on awhile back....and finally nariko....her cutscenes,... well all of the cutscenes are done incredibly well here.

Maybe there will be a sequel, but i think i posted a story awhile back that made it seem like it was not going to happen....and at this point it seems unlikely.

*Aggh...i don\'t know how to use spoiler tags!!...*
