Since I am bored, might as well do a Halo 2 graphic comparison between xbox and Windows Vista.

you ARE bored....
-
Uh...ok.
-
the vista version does look better...but i really don\'t know what to think of vista...i\'ve heard good and bad things about it.
-
Vista blows. It still needs a few years to get things worked out.
-
One would hope that they could improve on a 4 year old game. Not to mention, porting it to a platform with better specs.
Yea, that\'s all I want to add.
-
^^
Yeah...I don\'t really see the point of the comparison. It\'s like "PS1 vs. PS3!!11 T3h PS3 looks betterZz!!1"
-
Vista is the new Windows ME.
-
isn\'t Vista going to be required for the future of PC gaming?
-
DirectX 10 is the "future", yes. I watched an interview with id Software [Doom] saying they believe DirectX 9 has about 4-5 years left in it and they don\'t care for developing for Vista anytime soon.
-
Vista is the new Windows ME.
Exactly, everyone is still pretty damn content with their XP pro. People won\'t hop onto a new OS until the one after Vista.
-
Until developers truly take advantage of DirecX10, there is no reason to bother upgrading. The only game that has truly taken any advantage of 10 is \'Call of Juarez\' and the gameplay for that one sucks. Hell, some games take a hit in performance when going from 9 to 10.

Code named "Windows 7", which last I read had a target release date of 2010.
-
Didn\'t some l33t h4x0rz make a DX10 patch for XP?
-

This is not True. Even if Vista matures it will always be a piece of crap OS. The problems with Vista are not ones that can be corrected with updates.
This is like saying that Windows ME was only shit because of the lack of committed upgrades.
XP will be around for a very long time, and while it does Ubuntu and OSX Leopard will gain more market share.
M$ plans to release an new OS in 3 years since vista has turned into a monstrous faliure, with that being said it was well known months before vista \'s official release that it was going to bomb. If you ever read the M$ head programmer employee blogs they were informing the public of the mis management in the OS\'s creation and how a wonderful idea(minus the DRM) turned into a Nightmare. Matter of fact many parts of vista had to be rebuilt 10 months before it\'s release all those years they had down the drain, heck what ever happened to revolutionary WINFS.

I quit using Vista once it I realized it was having problems doing simple things such as calculating time for a large file transfer. Uninstalled it and put XP Pro on my laptop.
So, now I am running....
XP PRO / Kubuntu (Main)
XP PRO (Laptop)
My DVR system will be running MtyhKnoppix, most likely.

Where did I say that Vista will eventually be "good"? I\'m saying it has a lot of friggin\' ridicuous bugs right now. There\'s even one that sometimes...you can no longer rename folders. Microsoft has a patch for that on their site. I hate Vista...a lot.
-
Evi,
are you currently using Vista right now?
-
^^
I would not subject myself to such crappiness. So no. I\'ve fixed many computers running Vista, however. It is a piece of crap. I\'ve used it quite a bit.
-
so you are saying you are using Vista and you are used to updating patches to fix bugs running on vista?
-
So if someone was building a new PC from scratch (for gaming only) and said that they are only buying games made from January 2008 onward, you guys would still advise them to not get Vista?
I\'m trying to build a PC as I\'ve mentioned in other threads and all this OS crap is giving me a headache.

Good question. Will the new PC games be Vista only or for both? I guess that\'s the real factor there.
-
I tried to look up some games that I want to buy last night and most of them don\'t have any specs released at all. Except maybe Crysis, but the big selling point on that game is DX10 anyways.
I understand Vista to be frustrating for a lot of guys here, because a lot of you like Evi for example use their PC for work and stuff. I\'m more interested in hearing about Vista solely from a gaming point of view.
-
From a gaming point of view, eh?
How about bad support for Sli and Crossfire? How about the fact that there are DirecX10 games that perform worse when using Vista and the new DirecX? The list goes on and on. Honestly, even a game like Crysis will be gorgeous using the DirecX9 API. It\'s not near the end of it\'s life.
With that said, go ahead and get Vista and a GOOD DirecX10 card. No sense in not future-proofing yourself, even if it\'s not needed now.
-
Thats pretty much what I was getting at. When I build this thing, I really don\'t want to have to upgrade it or do any major work on it for quite awhile.
the DX10 card i\'m planning on is the 8800 GTX. Currently looking for a good case to support it.
-
Unfortunalty M$ will do everthing in it\'s power to force users to upgrade over to Vista. If I god forbid ever have to use Vista to play certain games then rest assured it will be done with a pirated copy.
-
Depending on how much you want to spend, you could get the new CoolerMaster Stacker case. I\'m in love with that one.
And Vista won\'t repeat ME\'s fate. If for no other reason than MS will push Vista more than it ever did ME.
-
even if Vista ever gets popular, it won\'t be for at least 2 to 3 more years as pretty much everyone are comfortable with their current OS now. And by then, Microsoft might be on it way to introduce it new OS.

I highly doubt that. It took them forever to get Vista out. It was delayed like 500,000 times.

Well, if they could stay on target, then the new OS is scheduled for \'10. From there on, they are wanting to do some subscription based OS. At least that is what I recently read.
In all honesty, MS doesn\'t have to worry about user acceptance for one reason.. Retail machines. Almost all retail machines are going to be Vista at this point and that is the most effective and fast way to roll out an OS, even if it\'s not ready for prime-time.
-
delayed 500,000 times? isn\'t that a bit too stretching? But honestly, I don\'t know when another OS will be introduce though after Vista. It could be longer than 2 or 3 years though. I am just guessing seeing Vista was launch 6 years later after the initial launch of Windows XP. But introducing a new OS could be sooner than launching it...
-
I\'d be more concerned with the price of a new OS. I swear what MS charges for these OS\'s is outrageous. It does nothing but encourage piracy.
<< posts on his Ubuntu desktop....>>
(Free does have a price. For example, I have spent the better part of the day just trying to get Gnome and Xorg.conf to friggin\' notice my 1680x1050 resolution.)

It\'s called sarcasm, Paully. ;)

MS announces DirecX 10.1 - to ship with Vista SP1. Current DirecX10 cards won\'t be able to use 10.1 features.
May as well wait until DirecX 10.1 cards are announced.
