This shows in game footage, and has the lead developers speaking about the game. It looks like Silent Hill 2.
-
This should enthuse the SH sceptics :
EGM: In past Silent Hill games, a lot of gamers just run past the enemies because they don\'t see you, they don\'t follow you.... That doesn\'t work anymore?
BH: No. We definitely spent a lot of time making sure that the A.I. was taken to the next level. In addition to that, the motion style of these characters, I think, we borrowed from the past; we wanted to make sure they had that jilted, staccato style where you couldn\'t quite anticipate what they\'d do next. But we\'ve layered in many, many additional animations, so each character has at least seven different walk cycles, and they\'re dynamically blending between those things so you can\'t quite anticipate exactly what they\'re going to do -- they look very frightening coming towards you. And when you go to close a door in the past Silent Hill games, they were blocked off to you; now they\'ll open those doors right up and still pursue you, so it\'s a lot more frenetic compared to what [players have] seen in the past.
Of course, there\'s no guarantee the game will deliver what it proclaims. It\'s interesting to see that once again, Konami outsources one of it\'s big IP\'s ; earlier example is Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes by Silicon Knights.

i cannot wait for this one....i luv the silent hill series,...and i see they kinda stole the hell transformation from the movie,...still i hope they do a stellar job with it, and if they can improve the combat without makin\' the character super-human and keep the atmosphere strong, i\'m in...:thumb:
-
I loved the first one, but after that I simply lost interest in the series. Here\'s hoping this one can revive some of the interest .
-
hopefully it will be good
i loved the first one, let down by 2, 3 was excellent, tried to play 4, but didnt really like it, but didnt really play it that much
-
but didnt really like it, but didnt really play it that much
but no way, but i don\'t know why.
-
what?
-
I assume this is on the PS2. I may pick it up.

Nope, Ps3, and most likely Xbox 360. lol does this look like a Ps2 game? Look at the lighting in that vid i posted.
-
what?
He was poking at the fact that Koppy says he doesn\'t like it, but he hasn\'t really played it...so he has no idea why he doesn\'t like it...because...he hasn\'t played it.
-

I wasn\'t looking at the lighting. I only saw the vid quickly, I admit and the graphics didn\'t really look that great to me. Maybe just a shitty video quality.
-
The video quality is horrendous. Can\'t wait for HD in-game footage. =]
-
I like the fact you cant "ignore" anymore the enemies but if they give too many fighting skills to the main character they wont be improving anything really. The character should feel atleast a little helpless and unsafe otherwise it will end up like Resi4 which was basically an action game than a survival horror after progressing half of the game
I dont want to control chuck norris in silent hill
-
He was poking at the fact that Koppy says he doesn\'t like it, but he hasn\'t really played it...so he has no idea why he doesn\'t like it...because...he hasn\'t played it.
I see. But didn\'t Kopking said he only played some part of it? Maybe the SH4 bored him as he played partway, so he didn\'t bother playing it anymore. So, he don\'t know if the game will be any good if he actually continue the game and finish it.
-
silent hill 4 was good imo,..they tried somethin\' new with 1st person view while in your room, and it did create some disturbing atmosphere later in the game when your room becomes invaded by the spirits...only parts of it that seemed kinda weak was the combat, and the hilarious sound effects of the hospital nurses...but make no mistake the atmosphere was still there in the game...and i agree with uni...they have to keep the character kinda helpless...
This may sound kinda weak, but if they could somehow enforce some kind of pre-set animation or set of pre-animated defensive moves like just shoving the creatures aside or picking up whatever is in the immediate area and throwing it at the creatures, maybe that will make the combat feel more real, cause i know in reality, if any of us really went up against any of those creatures,i\'d think we\'d respond by naturally throwing something at it, or shoving it out of our way...
-
i dunno what it was, maybe i just didnt have the time to play it.. the other silent hills, i loved from the beginning, and couldnt put them down...
maybe i was a lil bored of the series, just running past the monsters etc.... i dunno, for some reason it didnt appeal to me as much as the others
-
It was harder to run past the monsters in 4 if I remember well. I think the problem with 4 was that the game\'s flow was continuously destructed with the room portals.
Also the room and the outside world looked and controlled so differently that they didnt seem that much connected.
It was much more slow paced too.
-
I\'d play dat and scare my wife\'s panties off... Thank you, ps3..

Small update....
http://silenthill5.net/2008/02/15/new-silent-hill-v-screenshots-3.html
I still don\'t know what to think just yet,...the bathroom shot with the corpse...i think it looks just pasted to the floor,...and i feel the environments need to be a bit more dirty and rusty looking....but the one thing that\'s irking me that\'s not here but in the trailer was the transformation to the nightmare world. I don\'t like how they\'re getting their inspiration from the movie to go into the transformation...part of what made silent hill so scary was not really knowing when you were in the nightmare world..it was on some \'ol WTF? type s**t!.....the new screens don\'t look bad, they just don\'t have that silent hill feel imo just yet....i\'m hoping this game turns out great, but my gut feeling is telling me i\'m going to be a bit underwhelmed...

I\'m OK with it that this game is not gonna blow away other AAA games, when it comes to graphics. At least, if i look back at SH2, it\'s relatively primitive yet captivates by means of storyline, artistic design and atmosphere.
SH3 seemed to get it right in previews, but it kind of let me down somehow and I didn\'t even bother with #4.
I\'m really interested in this one though, as it seems to go back to SH2 form.
The last screen with depth of field is awesome. :thumb: I really get a "i need to get away here" feeling.

Is Silent Hill 3 worth playing? I have it on the PC via GAMETAP but haven\'t devoted any time to it.
-
don\'t try to play it without a dualshock pad for pc because seemingly, the controls with mouse / keyboard suck major.
As a SH game.. it\'s a bit more action oriented. On second playthrough you can earn a lightsaber and even a submachine gun as unlockables. The vintage dense SH atmosphere is still in there though.
Anyway... I love this SH5 screenshot

I\'m interested in this one, I liked the first one very much.
Waiting for more info and in-game footage.
-
The screenshots seem to lack something in terms of atmosphere. I dont know what exactly. But they dont give me the SH vibe I used to get from the other games.
Perhaps it is the character or the environments I am not sure. It doesnt look as twisted. It looks more like a typical hollywood action movie. Comparing the old SHs with the newest is like comparing a successful Japanese horror movie with Resident Evil: Extinction.
Everything looks like it was just pasted there. In the old Silent Hills everything mixed like a painting. A Bosch painting. The art direction is simply not there. It is more trying to imitate Silent Hill than become one
The character and the world were tied. In SH5 the character gives the impression that he is something separate and alien.
Also the fact that this is probably more action oriented is something I do not like. One of the great things about the old games was that characters were tragic personalities, helpless and trapped in a world that communicates with their dark subconscious and the dark past of the town.
Of course then again I could be wrong and I hope I am
-
I just hope this series,..doesn\'t end up being the "devil may cry 2" of the series...i just started playin\' silent hill 4 again and while the combat is kinda clunky,...i know the one thing that i can always count on from team silent,..and that is atmosphere....that feeling of being locked up in your apt is just on some \'ol "wtf" type s**t, and that\'s a good thing....as i stated earlier the one thing i don\'t like is how they are gettin\' their inspiration from the movie...as far as the transformations goes,...it was ok for the movie, but for the game itself, it just seems outta place and too commercial,...but who knows... hopefully this game will turn out ok.
-
This is what you call "Butter Face".
Great body...but her face? Not so much.
Thank goodness for paper bags and rope.
Anyway... I love this SH5 screenshot

Yeah I loved the "room" idea too. It was a fresh introduction. What I disliked though about it was that you were sometimes forced to enter and exit many times the hole in each environment and that started to take away from the otherwise superb immersion from the fact that the only place you could go was either your room or that hole ejecting you into a horrendous world.

Yeah...that\'s true...i\'ve already had to travel back to my apt to restore my health a few times when i really wasn\'t ready to leave the level yet....anyway here\'s a few more new screens...
http://silenthill5.net/2008/03/01/silent-hill-v-showing-soon-3-more-new-screenshots.html
I still on the fence with this one...the screens look kinda clean, but i guess when they place that filter over it, it\'ll look more like traditional silent hill....
-
This isn\'t silent hill 5,..but i guess this is what you would call a homemade movie trailer?...anyway whoever made this trailer,..it\'s pretty impressive...the models aren\'t that great,...but the atmosphere is decent...

Some new video\'s...hmmmm...i don\'t like the fact that this crew has made nurses react like the one\'s seen in the movie....i wanna give this game a chance, but it looks like it\'s not going to be anywhere near silent hill 1-4 in terms of creepiness or freight factor....i\'m hoping it\'ll turn out ok,..but i had a bad feeling when they handed this series over to an american firm.....they just should\'ve let the crew in japan handle this one....
http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3/silent-hill-homecoming/videos/g-2007042012155771096
^^^ the videos aren\'t that great, but you can still get a feel of how the game plays
-
WTF did they do to his face !? They changed it and it looks alot worse.
Where\'s my SH grain filter and why\'s the combat still looking clunky ?
-
So this game has a title.... Silent Hill: Homecoming
(Konami distancing themselves?)
-
Somebody made a comparison between the old and new player model...(this new version looks like an older guy)..and i gotta admit i like the old version better,....and i agree with knotter,..where\'s the grain filter?....hopefully they\'ll add it, but you would think that it would\'ve been in place by now....this american firm stated that they were a fan of the series...it looks like that were more of a fan of the movie........not only do the nurses look like the movie, they also move like\'em...how about some originality?
-
More updated screenshots....strange tho,...in these screenshots the main character has brown hair, whereas in the video he has greyish type hair..especially the scene where he is walking down into the water of the basement...

I like the new old looking model as well. Seems to fit better the world of Silent Hill. Characters are supposed to look troublesome and weak. The older younger looking model looks like an action figure. A guy that is not afraid of anything ready to kick some ass.
I dont like much how this game is turning out either though. It doesnt feel as silent hill as the other games (Excluding probably 4). It lacks something. I am not sure. The other ones had something I can only describe as "emotion". The movie failed to grasp this feel and this one seems to fail in that department too.
But I hope I am wrong
-
I like the new old looking model as well.
Ugh. He\'s NOT saying that. Just like many, myself as SH2 fan included, prefer the 1st version of Alex ; the younger looking version.
He\'s supposed to be 22, not 42.
Besides, it looks like the model took a serious polygoncount cutdown.
Devs never admit it ; but often such changes are done because they\'re forced to lower polycounts in their shitty engines. I guess young Alex\'s hair cost too many polys. Besides, the older looking one it\'s head, looks blocky as hell.
And yes, it\'s refreshing to see a younger Alex because that gives the player the sense of being vulnerable in SH land, even as being a battle hardened young soldier.
-
Oh he meant the previous model. I see. Personally I prefer the newer. I would like to see an old character for once. We got younger aged models already. It\'s time for some change.
What I liked in Silent Hill compared to Resident Evil is that each character was a different occasion with each installment.
Silent Hill 1 was a father figure.
Silent Hill 2 was a male tragic figure
Silent Hill 3 was a female bystander figure
Silent Hill 4 was an isolated no-one figure
In Silent Hill 5 I d love to see an old war veteran. The previous model looks just as young as the models in 1 and 2, and much more capable too. I dont want to see a character that feels strong in the Silent Hill world. In none of the Silent Hill games was the character transmitting the message of strength. And these developers said that they want to make the game more action like with a character that has more attacking capabilities. For that reason they chose someone who was in the US army. I d be pissed if they ended it up like Resident Evil 4\'s Leon Kennedy. This is my view in terms of art direction.
In terms of detail though, yeah I d prefer a more detail version.
The picture Clips posted though is misleading because one is an offline render and the other is in game.

Good analysis there...:)....but yea i still like the younger version better,..i still think that they could have a younger main character, but still have him just as helpless as the other characters in previous games,..he may be a bit more capable because he\'s a soldier, but all of his training still can\'t prepare him for what he will see when confronting the madness that is silent hill,...but that part depends on how good the developers actually bring this game to life....i have some big doubts about this game,...it\'s set to drop in september and there isn\'t a decent trailer out yet.
As far as for having the older character? isn\'t this guy supposed to be looking for his younger brother that went missing when he came back from serving his tour overseas?....his younger character made more sense because his younger brother looks to be like either 8 or 10 yrs old. Now with the older character, this guy looks to be his uncle or something,....maybe they\'re going to change the theme of this guy looking for his younger brother, to looking for his son, since he looks so much older now.
But i don\'t think that they could change the story in time to do that since the game is set to drop in sept.....and that\'s the thing, for a game that probably should have most of it\'s elements in place, it\'s not looking as strong as i would have expected it to be...
-
Well what I like in an old war veteran character is the large possibilities they can bring for his background story. War is a nightmare, there are lots of traumatic experiences and psychological trauma. His history could have brought lots of great ideas in plot development. And Silent Hill can be a reflection of a person\'s past experience (ie: James\' or Alessa\'s).
What just occurred to me though about this character\'s change in looks and find interesting is that he could be the same young model. No change in age. But the distress from the Silent Hill twisted world may change his look. His hair may become gray because of the terror surrounding his environment. This can happen for real. Humans age faster and their hair may grow gray in a matter of seconds if they experience extremely stressful situations suddenly.
-
like a George H.W. Bush\'s wife if I recalled whose hair got white after one of her babies died from leukemia.
-
I didnt know that

I think you\'re failing to see the \'bigger picture\' of the potential the viewpoint from a \'young\' Alex would\'ve had.
It\'s not about \'strong soldier / weak soldier\'. SH storylines, like MGS, reflect upon and comment to society and SH is that viewport through which we see all the bad things in society in skewed metaphores.
Young Alex viewpoint & storyline is potentially a criticism
towards US policy to send their young boys to war, from Vietnam to current conflicts ; and what it all does to those \'young guys\' .
That is EXACTLY the reason I don\'t want to see a 42 year old frail Alex. That would have been appropiate for a WW2 veteran telling war stories to his (grand) children.
Besides.. what have we got in the land of \'mature oriented gaming\' ? Old Snake in MGS4. Veteran Sam Fisher in SC Conviction, and let\'s not forget the aging of Max Payne in the sequel.
As Clips hints at : what threat is a Silent Hill world where weak frail characters beat the shit out of monsters ?
Young Alex is competent, but no Solid Snake and without truckload of weapons, let alone sufficient ammo.
The potential i see lost, is a 22 y o who got traumatised and mentally/pshycologically old in no time.
Besides.... in context of 3D character modeling, the new model looks like 3 steps backward in both style & quality.
Polygon count on the head looks like 3rd of the original Alex head.
This is just crap.
-

I feel that you are confusing Silent Hill with other games that are aiming to be something else.
First of all I would never compare it with characters found in either Splinter Cell or Metal Gear Solid. These games are depicting military experience with MGS trying to show the ugliness of imperialism, politics and society in broad way as well.
Also politics and nations have nothing to do with Silent Hill. Thats a job for other games.
Silent Hill is a trip to the dark parts of the character\'s subconscious or history and the few people surrounding his personal life. It is a more "centralized" plot than MGS\'s or Splinter Cell\'s.
And lets not forget when the Vietnam war ended. This old character could have well been a Vietnam war soldier and it doesnt necessarily have to take place in 2008. You can see a similar point of view as yours in my last post regarding the plot potential. The young version looks like he is around his 20-30\'s. And now with wars in the middle east and such, and countless of games using that setting it has already become a cliche\'. And personally I believe that Vietnam was a more traumatic experience.
Lastly about the "weak frail characters beating the shit out of monsters", none of the characters in the old Silent Hill games gave the impression that they were unstoppable or strong characters when they killed monsters. Add a strong character that beats the shit out of predatory monsters and things will be much worse. And thats where 5 tends to go.
The reason why Silent Hill\'s (especially 1 and 2) managed to pass to the player that they were helpless and weak despite killing monsters was thanks to the fact that they did not boast any special moves. only some extremely basic moves, and fought enemies that did not give the impression that they were powerful. They intentionally looked pathetic and tormented. Even the huge ones. It wasnt the monsters themselves that made Silent Hill look like a thread. Thats why monsters were few and rarely seen but still the game managed to pass the sense of fear or annoyance. It was the whole world, the dark side of the mind, an unknown presence that turned the upside down to what the protagonist viewed as normal. It was a "nightmare" world itself that the character wanted to get out. The monsters were the details to color the Silent Hill world further.
-
Hmmm...good points by both you and knotter,...just one other point...i did hear that the character will sport finishing moves now....from what i hear, it won\'t be the same ol\' stomping then to death animation,...i\'ve heard that the character will be able to pull back the monsters neck and violently slash it...resulting in blood being splattered on the screen....
I\'m not really sure what to think of that,..i guess it would make sense,...cause afterall this guy IS in the military,..and to be honest, they really did need to do something about that stomping finishing move.... it started to look kinda cheesey in prt 3 & 4 when you would stomp on monters twice your size...i guess i just don\'t think i like the blood splattering on the screen part,...that makes it kind of cheesey,.....again i think this is something i would have to actually see to make a judgement on it.
-

Solid Snake, Sam Fisher, i just brought those as examples of the saturated trend to feature older experienced veteran characters. SH 5 would do good to break from that trend.
Also politics and nations have nothing to do with Silent Hill. Thats a job for other games.
Then you clearly missed the broader message in the previous SH\'s. SH is NEVER ever solely about the mental depths of the individual protagonist.
Let\'s take SH2 for example. James is NOT the core of the story. If you have the limited edition of the game(the making of SH2 DVD), Team Silent even go so far to explain why the threesome relationship between James - Mary & Maria is the core (and of course, how people deal with death & disease of loved ones). All character\'s, especially Eddy reflect upon society (how people teased him for his fatness and the unique way each teaser had to put Eddy down) to show how and what kind of monster he has become & also the incest committed by Angela\'s father ; domestic violence. ; and these characters were in no way directly related or dear to James nor vice versa.
How can you miss those society critic story messages !!!??? That\'s reflecting/commenting on a bigger scale. Silent Hill represents the decay of the world.
... SH3 is a great example of the thin layer of flashy modern society which we call the civilized world ; the shopping mall in decay IS in that part of the game, the main character, not Heather. And like the SH movie explored into, SH\'s is very much tied to the broader scope of religion in society and how people have themselves jump through hoops until they go mental to not \'sin\'. To say SH is centralized is imo looking at it with waaay to narrow view.
It was a "nightmare" world itself that the character wanted to get out. The monsters were the details to color the Silent Hill world further.
True, but for a change, the monster should indeed way more dangerous and effective in SH5 than in previous ones. Having a real threat layer on top of the pshycological threat of the SH world... that will bring the complete immersion, no more "they look scary but they won\'t have chance of killing me anyway" SH5\'s threat would be optimal when even a healthy young soldier will have trouble surviving it ; it\'s not about how tough a grunt Alex can be ingame.
-

Well the same can be said about young military types ;)

You are right, but that doesnt necessarily mean that it is not directed to us at a personal level. How does "society" affect you and how do you react to it. It is a critic mostly to your personal weaknesses, fears, experience and such. Thats why it encompasses society and the external factors because your personality depends on these external factor. For that reason it is centralized on the character and the characters related to that specific character. It is trying to put you in his place and sometimes force you to take actions you wouldnt do under normal conditions. It is still isolated in the mind of the character and makes you identify with him and his environment. It is a microcosm of society that is reflected in your mind and personality. It is a critic of us in our environment. The examples you brought are very very specific. In the example of James, it puts you in Jame\'s and Maria\'s shoes, in their own relationship and at the same time it is directed to our relationships at a personal level. Eddy can be viewed from a third person perspective (how you as James viewed him and your hypocrisy) or from a first person view (are you who get mocked up by others because of your weakness end up any different than them? Eddy was killing people that did nothing to him, and a helpless dog becoming even worse than those that hurt him as a reaction). Then there is that girl who was being raped in SH2 (I forgot her name) by her father. There are too many "personalized" themes in Silent Hill games that at the end shows that everyone is guilty and a victim. SH is like completing a personal survey about how you deal with society vs writing an essay about society in general (other games). SH is a critic of our micrososciety and not of the macrosocciety.
If Silent Hill 5 tries to use the traumatic experience of war it wont care about who has sent the character to war or what political interests/reasons has sent him to war or at what age. It will dive into the traumatic experience of war in general and put you in his place. It wont matter if imperialism, political interests etc sent him to fight. Sometimes you end up in war without being sent only because someone attacked you in your country. It happened here in my country 34 years ago. It will matter how the war has affected him and can affect anyone else. It will bring the thoughts, traumatic experience and fears of the character and put you in his place. Hell it may even criticize the character himself for things he has done to others in war instead of criticizing his country for sending him. It could be an old war veteran who fought in a war at a younger age who despite his heroic actions that put his life in risk and his extremely traumatic experience, he was left isolated, without recognition, without anyone to care for him. Not even his country. It is a thought that tortures these people. For real. Some of them cant sleep at nights. They have nightmares. And as they grow old the fear of death and loneliness becomes greater. They feel that their efforts were in vain. SH deals with emotion

Well the same can be said about young military types ;)
such as ?

Good point. Touche.
Still, you gotta admit \'Vietnam war veteran\' = cheesy cliche by now...

Damn..the nurses got booty on them...:fro:....i\'d throw a bag on her face like how the wayan brother did to that possesed chick in scary movie two!!..:D...seriously tho...the gameplay is looking good...

He looks young in the new videos which makes me to believe that the old looking model is either because Silent Hill is screwing with his mind by making him look older or his hair went gray because of the stress.

I think that they just scrapped that older looking model,....which is good because it just didn\'t fit with him searching for his brother,....it just didn\'t seem right with him lookin\' that old...it made more sense for him to look a bit younger for him to be searching for his brother....the older alex looks like he could\'ve been his older uncle instead of his older brother....i think it was a good move by the developer to go back to the younger looking alex...

The developers were stressed and our "bring Alex version 1 back" petition made them change their minds :thumb:
Anyway, the Konami gamers day footage + screenshots have really impressed me ; i really sense the SH feeling back and imo it looks better in motion than
Siren. Alone in the Dark looks great at some points, but tacky in many other points too. Besides, it\'s based in New York. I get tired of NY in both games & movies as main setting.
The little Silent Hill town however, doesn\'t seem to tire me at all. lol

New pics...a bit of a spoiler since i think these are bosses,..but the game is lookin\' good...:fro:...i\'ve been waitin\' for a good survival horror game to drop...and i\'ll definitely be getting this...

i\'ve been waitin\' for a good survival horror game to drop.
As have I...
Left 4 Dead looks promising. And I\'m a sucker for anything zombie related.
-
Screens look awesome. Too bad I\'ll be traveling the world during SH H\'s launch.
-
So demented. Can\'t wait. Makes me want to give SH4 another try.
Doubt any of those are bosses as SH3 had similar sized/shaped unholy though non-boss critters.

Review is out, 7.7 /10

Not bad.....that score seems to be the average for this game.....I plan on getting this & dead space for christmas....as bad as i want to buy it now, i\'m just gonna wait...in the meantime...i might pick up Fallout & maybe Tomb raider or prince of persia when those games drop to keep me busy.
It looks like the combat might have made the game a bit less scary...we\'ll see,..i did think it made since for alex to be more capable since he is from the military. I\'m still getting this regardless.
-
Uhm...has anybody played this game yet? I could easily purchase it, but i want the wifey to get me this & dead space for x-mas..*yes i\'m still a kid at heart*...:D....but i know there are some horror heads up in hurr that must\'ve played it by now.....thoughts?

Had a little start session with the game today.
I need to get a bit used to these new controls & camera ; it feels pretty fluid.
Combat ; I got owned by a trio of nurses. Playing it on HARD.
Too early to draw real conclusions now. Will post upon more play.

Ahhh, i know that i could at least depend on you knotter,....since we both kinda frequent that "other" site...;)...damn when i say that i feel like i\'m cheating on this site with another one...:p...keep us updated on your progression, but uhm no spoilers please!!...:D

Alright, this game is a bit addictive.
Progress has been step by step, but that\'s because the game really is hard, playing on hard mode. I\'m past the 2nd bossfight atm.
Monsters actually pursue you through doors. Once they notice you, they\'ll barrage you, which makes the game more fastpaced. Even some of the nurses are no pushovers anymore. Shooting goes pretty well. Limited ammo of course.
Shepherd\'s Glen has it\'s own atmosphere but when you do reach Silent Hill, that SH feeling partially shines through again ; and I think it\'s a good thing it\'s not the same, for a change.
The background music is predominantly more \'clear\' instead of muddied/distorted. The monster alert mode does feature distortion background music though.
Character & plot development is good so far. Alex is a likeable lead.
For a game which had to be made on a tighter budget, you can see they did their best. Only \'lesser\' character model so far is Judge Holloway. Lighting & shadowing is great.
Enjoying the game so far.

Let me ask you this,..have you spotted PH yet? and if so, does he have a significant role or is it just fan service as we\'ve seen in that clip where he just stares at alex and then moves on.

Dead Space > Silent Hill 5

Dead Space > Silent Hill 5
you completed both already ?
PH spotted, like in the clip ; I guess his relevance will made clear later in the game.
-
**slight spoiler**
PH does only a cameo role, a sacrilegious breaking of SH law according to some would-be Silent Hill bible scholars, or as I like to call them, nut jobs.
I found SH5 a more than worthy addition to the series. Don\'t think any sequel can ever top the first SH but this one, at times, does a remarkable job bringing to life that hellishly corrupted world like never before.
Dead Space > Silent Hill 5
I could be alone on this- spent a few hours with Dead Space and don\'t consider these two games to be in the same league. Outside of the frequent pop scares the thing I feared most playing Dead Space was the idea of being stuck on that plain ugly ass spaceship for several more hours.

Afaik Dead Space\'s got it\'s own thread on this board - if not ; he should create a DS thread. He didn\'t need to come bringing in DS into this SH H thread.
I have only played SH2 & SH3 until SH Homecoming. So far, SH2\'s still my favourite, but I\'m having pretty good times with Homecoming atm. Loving the ambient music in the Sewers.

Nope. Just my personal opinion.
