Un-fucking-charted: Drakes Fortune
Here is a 15-minute long pure gameplay video, it has some Swiss dude talking at the beginning and at the end of the movie, between that its 10+ minutes of unaltered man sex.

The game will be released December 7th in Yrop and November 20 in the JEWEZOFAY.

Indeed, when it comes to animation blending, secondary animation and fluidity of gameplay, Uncharted already blows MGS4 and Assassin\'s Creed and Gears of War out of the water.
Too bad the main Drake character looks really generic :(

You know, its not often we have these regular Joe dudes in games, so I\'d say hes anything but generic.. Generic would be bald, bad ass, steroid eating space marine or emo japanese dude. :)

PALGN: Can you tell us why Uncharted is only possible on the PlayStation 3?
EW: There are a few things. Primarily the whole experience is enabled by the use of the hard drive. If we did not have the hard drive then we could not present the game in the seamless load free way that we are. After you start until you turn the console off and go eat your lunch and come back there is not going to be another load time and you can play the game from start to finish. That was really key to us something that we established with Jak and Daxter and it keeps you immersed in the experience. As soon as you hit those load screens, as soon as you have to take that break, you may put the controller down, you may do something else we really just want to engross you in this experience. So, the hard drive really helped with that. The other thing that we\'ve got going for us is the Blu Ray. We filled that thing up to 24 plus gigs, it was right at the end where we were literally running out of place where we were having to start pulling some stuff out, we ended up fortunately finding this unused cache of audio lines we were able to pull out to save some space so we could get everything in that we wanted to get in. I\'m not going to stand here and say it would have been impossible to do on DVD but it would have been a different game, it really would have. It could have looked worse, we would have had to make concessions in terms of our compression. We would have had to spend a lot more developer resources focusing on how to get it on the disk when we could have been creating the game, making it more fun, making it more beautiful. So I\'m really happy just to have that. We\'re still on single layer and this is our first game out of the gates. So I highly suspect that on our future games we\'ll even go to a double layer and we\'re going to even start putting more than 24-25 gigs into a single game.
The other important thing for us was the use of the Cell processor and how it enabled our animation system to work. Everybody who is working on the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 gets this increase in the number of polygons they can use, they get an increase in the fact that now we\'ve got these really cool pixel shaders and we can do these really cool materials like water and leather and put bark on trees. So you\'re going to get an immediate upgrade for free and you just get it with the hardware. But, what\'s not going to come for free is your animation and you\'re animation if you\'ve got these really detailed environments it\'s not going to mesh. We wanted to put a lot of our engineering effort into making sure that we had an animation system that would allow, what I think are some of the most talented animators in the industry to really create and have their vision come through and be supported by the technology.
Basically, in Jak I we had somewhere in the vicinity of 300-350 animations for Jak and everyone was really happy with the fluidity of his movement and the response. In Uncharted, Drake has got more than 3500 animations and the difference is we\'re now taking the cell processor and we\'re taking say two dozen of those animations, like we\'ve got his running animations, flinching animations, reloading animations, rolling animations, just dozens of animations all at once being layered on top of each other and then the cell processor recreates on the fly the single frame of animation that you need to be able to play the game at that moment and the fact we can just dump more and more work on that processor and its SPUs just means we can free up our CPU to do more general purpose tasks.

played through the dev demo I got at work a while back, the animation is really superb really get\'s you immersed in the game. There were a few graphical glitches but it was an early build. One of the games I\'m really looking forward to.

I\'m astound at the response here. I agree with the poster above this game reminds me of tomb-raider as well. Yes the animation is good but the overall impression i get is not sitting well with me. This game looks like a bore, does not even compare from what i have seen with MGS4. There is noting compelling here, same old typical game-play with flashy animation and graphics.
Matter of fact so far this generation is pretty much all about improved graphics, with little to no innovation in new types of game-play and style.
Even crysys is nothing to brag home about, yet people are basing there GPU purchase on that game.

Crysis is a huge disappointment, in my opinion. Yes, it\'s gorgeous, but it does nothing else to the genre. This looks like more of the same, just a lot better looking.

definitly. some are starting to add some stuff. I\'m kind of liking this little wave of single-player concentrated games. Granted bioshock wasn\'t evolutionary in terms of gameplay, but a lot of thought went into the story. assasin\'s and mass effect are looking promising. Rather than the usual rushed single player and generic multi that\'s been coming out the wood-work.
Only other improvements from this generation (besides graphics) that i can think of is the cover system from vegas (still needs work though) aaaand my mind draws blank. Im still hoping for a game that keeps you in first person and uses the cover system...but im definitly in the minority in that. The general buyer would probably hate that.

What a bunch of complainers...Tomb Raider-ish ? Pfff most gamers don\'t feel enthusiasm anymore for TR since a long time while this game is clearly anticipated by many. And YES, graphics style and superb animation blending add to game immersion factor. You can\'t argument against the game, looking at those factors by themselves ; games consist of a sum of factors which should be looked at intergral, not seperately.

well i gotta admit,..that tomb raider theme did come across my mind when i first seen this game, but i don\'t think the game is tryin\' to be tomb raider...it looks great, and even tho i think the melee attacks are probably repeated combo\'s, the animation looks superb and the graphics are colorful and lush...and you can\'t really compare this to metal gear, as both games are going on completely different artistic styles...
As knotter mentioned in the other thread about mgs...it\'s a hot lookin\' game but some of snakes animation still seem it\'s from last gen....not that it will end up hurting it, i\'m just sayin that the main character in the drakes fortune moves, a bit more fluidly and realistically compared to snakes sometimes "robotic movements". One thing they probably could\'ve done to the main character tho, was to make him a bit taller.

well, remember what some people were saying about Tomb Raider 1 ; "Indiana Jones rip off"...
There\'s proper animation blending in Uncharted ; which means that it will minimize the artificial feeling of executing a string of seperate moves.
MGS4 just got delayed...and i\'m hoping Konami will address the animation system. Although, from the looks of it ; the engine is still doesn\'t compute actual translation in free 3D space ; if Snake jumps down, the egine just moves Snake\'s animation downward instead of a calculation of trajectory of a jump as it would be in real life. In that technical aspect; MGS4 still looks veery last gen.

what do u expect, most game styles / genres have been done. There isn\'t much room left for innovation. Everything thats has any innovation these days is more or less gimicky, being controllers, cameras crap like that. It\'s just gotta be mostly about graphics and sound. Get used to it.

That game looks very impressive. It has a neo-Indiana Jones look to it. I need to figure out how I can get a PS3 soon. MGS4 is coming out soon and I\'ve never missed a launch in the Metal Gear series yet. Hate to break the streak.

down payment it if you want it that badly. $400 or $500 model is a better deal than last year. Higher HDD storage, but cheaper price tag. You even get a free spiderman 3 blu ray movie for $400, or motorstorm game for $500.

This gameplay footage is basically Tomb Raider with some dood in the place of Lara Croft. Here it is so you can watch it if you must, but we\'ll wager that you\'ll be more interested in this footage of Lady Croft under the influence of a nude patch.

Gee... so that would imply that Eidos would have gone through unnecessary years of lackluster Tomb Raider sales, just because they didn\'t come to the "\'conclusion\' to better change Lara into a guy ? :rolleyes:
Ugh, gamesradar is just brit scepticism on autopilot hyping their own prejudice about this game, to the masses.
If we go into the analysis of ingame character development we can even see the comparison is utterly brainless ;
Lara croft was made to appeal in the pin up way. She was the first game-babe. THAT is what made gamers turn their heads towards the TR box.
The Uncharted dude is clearly breaking from the \'special game character\' role ; the point is that gamers can identify with him because he\'s just a regular dude.
Any other argument is a prejudice dogma. Period.

One would hope they did, but not sure why would compare a film to a game? Obviously Tomb Raider fore fronted that as a 3D genre , so anything that follows the same path, will be compared to it.

Don\'t deny the comparison and don\'t act like it is a bad thing to compare the games. Sonic was compared to Mario, but done enough to become a succesful franchise on it\'s own. Comparing a game to a previous game is not a bad thing, so let\'s not act like saying "it\'s Tomb Raider with a dude", is a bad thing.

I know the exact figure might be a bit low, but its not really that far fetched. There is no way they are close to maxing out CELL this early on. EE, a much simpler processor had a major evolution between games. Jak and Daxter vs Jak2/3 for example. I suspect the difference will be much greater this time around with the 8 processor CELL.

I think it does. Crysis was pretty underwhelming when I saw it in motion, and I played it with the highest settings avalible in the demo.
And DX10 is such a bullflop right now, I can hardly tell the difference between DX10 or 9.

^^^the game does look good it does a good job with the shadows and wind animation, and the jungle level looks thick and plush...but i just cannot get into 1st person shooters. I watched the Vid and i know that these types of games are tryin really hard to make you feel like you\'re a part of the game, but it still looks and feels fake, especially when you\'re running,...it just seems like you\'re sliding...i\'d rather see the character himself performing the actions...but i\'m just ranting now,..and it truly just comes down to personal taste...1st person shooters just ain\'t my thing. Nice lookin\' game tho.

Its not.. Loads of 360 devs have moaned about DVD-storage being very limited. PGR4 had to be downgraded in order to fit on a DVD9. The Darkness devs have moaned, the devs behind GTA4 have moaned, Prey, Epic Games and so on.
Yeah Uncharted is somewhere around 24GB out of 25GB for a SL BD-ROM.
My guess is Kojima will be the first to release a game on a DL BD-ROM BD50.

Fasty, just do what I do. Get an Itunes pre-paid card (forgot what they\'re called) and you can register on the US Store and use the card to pay. And the dollar is worth less than pesos right now, so it\'s plenty cheap. :)
You can proably even get them on Ebay and get the code by email.

Are they all prerecordered?
The developers said that those cut scenes that are in video format were rendered in real time on the PS3 initially, they then recordered them and put them in video format on the disk because during the time the cut scenes are being played they are streaming the actual data for the game.

I don\'t believe that for a second, they probably did that for framerate optimization, just like some of the cut-scenes in gears of war.

I think there might be a truth to it because Ninja Theory did the same thing with Heavenly Sword. Some are real time and some are in video format.

I’ll say it right off the bat, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is the best looking PS3 game out, bar none. The visuals, animation, environments, cinematic presentation, the art style, everything just comes together beautifully. The single most impressive feature has to be individual character animation. In other games you could tell when your character switched animation from lets say running into a jump. It doesn’t matter how Nathan is positioned, where he’s looking there is perfect transition into ANY other aanimation. One particular animation had me dying repeatedly just to see it again. When Nathan would jump to a ledge located in a corner for example; simply some superb animation. Dependant on the direction he was facing he would land on the appropriate shoulder and shifts his weight realistically to give him leverage and pull himself up. Or he lets you approach an enemy who is on a slightly higher elevation where you can begin your brutal combo. You’ll grab him around the stomach and start punching him in the kidney and more. There is tons of animation for specific game situations. Don’t think the enemies aren’t given the same treatment, you can tell when you’ve shot one in the leg or when they’re nearly dead. Some of the cooler sequences are when you enter specific environments and Nathan’s animation set changes. When you first see the abandoned German U Boat, it really is a jaw dropping moment. Once you enter inside, the camera takes a much more cinematic angle and Nathan will traverse slowly through the boat, putting his hand when passing through a door for support.

Sweet. :D All three games are great choices.
If you enjoy FPS, I recommend Resistance. Both the SP and MP modes are fantastic IMO.
