He was a teammate of mine on the club lacrosse team and he was walking from his off campus apartment to an on campus apartment when he was savagely beaten by 3 black males in a group of 6. He died from his injuries. With all the hot emotions going on, there\'s a lot of people talking smack about the people from nearby projects. There have been 3 black guys that have been robbing and holding people up at gunpoint. What pisses me off the most is the cops don\'t seem to give a shit about these assaults but are so quick to write drinking tickets.
This kid that was murdered didn\'t even deserve it. He was such a good kid that just liked to go out and have a good time. I remember he would come to my apartment whenever we were throwing a party to have a couple beers and just have a good time. And his life was ended for what. So some prick gets a quick crack fix? I am so outraged, angry and upset at everything right now.

I highly doubt it. People are already bringing up the race card but I don\'t think its racial. These douchebags come to my campus all the time to assault students because they\'re easy targets. This is the 5th assault this semester by probably the same black guy. A couple weeks ago, two kids were held up at gun point and robbed by someone with a similar description. What pisses me off is the cops don\'t do anything. This kids death could have been prevented.

Yeah, we get a lot of assault and rape cases around Cincinnati, I\'ve been lucky to not know anyone thats ever been attacked but its always in the back of your mind walking home late at night off campus.

I\'d make sure you always travel in groups when going to the more secluded areas of campus at night. You could also bug campus officials for more security.

so is Buffalo...but the "element" sort of moved in since the Uni was built...so when they needed a second campus, they bought forestland in the burbs...

I hope. Everyone in my community is starting to make their voices heard. I was watching the news and students were saying how the cops only worried about writing tickets instead of patroling. I do give Rowan Police credit for responding so quickly. They are decent about that and they are there for safety but I\'m really disappointed with the town cops. All I ever see them do is go into my apartment complex and the complex next to mine and just write drinking tickets all night when they should be patrolling the streets, especially since this happens at least once a weekend by people fitting the exact same description. The attacks happen on areas that the cops should be patrolling, like the main streets where the bars are at and where students walk home from the bar. This is really a sucky situation right now.

The race issue was the first thing a lot of people brought up. They said it was a hate crime because the blacks beat up a white kid. It wasn\'t motivated by race. I\'m sure they wouldn\'t have beaten up a black kid first if there was a white kid there too but the bottom line is that my teammate had money and that\'s what this crackhead wanted.

I\'m sitting at the Amherst campus as we speak.
One of my fears is that the world will end when I graduate in oh...2010 or 2011...talk about a wasted education.

Meh race has nothing to do with it...you have white kids jumping black kids, black kids jumping white kids, black kids jumping other black kids and so on,..the only time it\'s racial issue is when the media gets it\'s hands over it...granted some of the stories are legitimate, but alot are really blown outta proportion....but let\'s be honest here, if i saw a bunch of white youth\'s and a bunch of black youth\'s coming towards me, i honestly would have to say that i wouldn\'t fear anything from the white youth\'s at all, but the black youth\'s?...and i\'m not sayin\' that i fear anybody, but let me just say that they can sometimes create a certain image that can put you on edge...*i mean if we\'re bein honest let\'s just be honest*
But that doesn\'t mean that all black youth are like that because they\'re not, i\'m just sayin\' from living in the projects myself, i know how some of these black youth get down....sometimes you just gotta be street smart and i\'m not sayin\' that this guy deserved what happened to him, it\'s just that when people gesture to you for something sometimes you just gotta be cold as ice and ignore them...
And Chizz...ignorance is the thing that i don\'t like,....but honesty i can respect 100%....i still remember that converstation we had about your uncles garage i think it was that kept bein burglarized, and because it was in a predominantly black neighborhood, it was a no-brainer as to who was committing the crimes,...and i didn\'t blame you for feelin\' the way that you did toward black folk,...it\'s hard not to feel that way when it\'s happening on a constant basis.
For me i still think all people are a**holes, whether you\'re black, white, orange or whatever, if you threaten me or my family, be ready to be sent to emergency or be prepared to start pushin\' up daises 6 feet under. Titan, I\'m sorry about what happened to your friend, and i hope they find the a**holes that committed this crime, it seems like nice people are always victims in this type of unnecessary bulls**t...

Here\'s an update with what\'s been going on. The latest autopsy report stated that he died from a torn artery in his neck during the attack.
Yesterday was absolutely horrific. They had a university meeting where the President was going to explain what happened and what the immediate course of action would be. All the news cameras from Philly were there as well as New York (which is big). During the Q&A, the crowd turned. One of the biggest complaints was the cops sitting in the apartments writing nothing but drinking tickets instead of patroling the streets and criticizing the cops for sitting around in parking lots and talking (both of which are true). Then, there were pro-school kids fighting against anti-school kids (pro meaning saying the school did nothing wrong and anti, like myself, who don\'t feel safe and want change). Eventually, it got so bad that it was effectively ended. Even the news people started to leave. The campus was pretty much outraged at everything. Emotions of anger and fear were obviously evident. I was shown on the evening news when they aired a segment of the meeting (thankfully they didn\'t air any of the free-for-all. I thought a riot was gonna happen).
On my way back to my apartment, I see a cop from 3 towns away drive by with sirens blaring. I hear news helicopters in the air. I get back to my apartment and start talking to my neighbor about the disaster of a campus meeting and explaining the drama that happened. I go into my room to unwind and get my stuff together to work on a project when I get a text message alert saying that there was a "police emergency" in an oncampus apartment and to stay away.
My neighbor comes in and yells to me to get in the truck because they were going to the scene. I jump in and we go. As we\'re going there, there were all these out of town cops and the county SWAT team suiting up. We were like "shit, this has to be big". I join in a crowd that was looking on while I was talking to a campus security officer. She told me that all they could say was it was a depressed individual. SWAT went in and pulled a kid out. Keep in mind, there were like 3 news choppers and all these news vans filming. They pull a kid out and it turned out to be unrelated. It was just some kid who called into campus public safety threatening to kill himself.
My campus has just been a mess but today was much better. There was only one news van and it wasn\'t there for long so things are hopefully going to start to move on. I\'m going home on friday just to get away from everything. Changes are being made so I\'m starting to feel safer and more at ease.

You\'re concerned about your saftey, and you\'re pissed at the cops, but when a SWAT team and a bunch of cops are driving to an area, you going to that area is 1) putting yourself in danger since who knows what it is and 2) making the cops jobs much more difficult. Just seems a little hypocritical

you\'re right it is. Its the whole curiousity thing on what was going on. I didn\'t cross the police line or anything. The entire building was wrapped in police tape. I just stuck with the crowd of residents and onlookers. The amount of students who showed up was insane. They just kept coming. I really went because I thought they may have had the guy and I wanted to be there to watch them take that piece of shit away.

nah. that shit I stay away from, unless its a fight; then its entertaining. There really isn\'t anything like that at my campus anyway. Just the occasional drunken fist fight
