Title: Crysis demo
Post by: Raz The Friggin Grea on October 29, 2007, 03:32:44 PM
Anyone else try out the Crysis demo?  I have to say, other than the spectacular graphics, the game actual sucks.  The hit detection is way off and when I do hit them, it takes at least four or five bullets to kill an enemy.  The whole thing just seems mashed together.  I doubt I even pick it up for the eye candy.

You\'re supposed to release a shitty PC game, then rely on patches or the modding community to make it playable ;P

I\'ve never really had high hopes for Crysis as a good game. Far Cry 2 on the other hand looks really cool.

never heard of the game myself. but from what I can gather reading the reviews on some of the forums I lurk on, it\'s a pile of wank.

It\'s the single most gorgeous game, ever, provided you can actually run it.

i thought it was alright. I could tell that the AI was iffy in the videos. They pretty much just wait for you to grab them by their throats. Plus i had a hard time customizing the gun on the fly and switching suit powers while shooting a bunch of people. But i am glad i decided to wait for more crysis type games on pc before upgrading. Depends how much of a graphical increase there is in battlefield 3

I\'m not too fanatic on FPS games ; i loved the demo despite any supposedly short comings.

I like the nanosuit concept ; it feels somewhat more kenetic than HL2\'s gravity gun gameplay.

I liked the demo, although the graphics IMO dont look quite as good as I was expecting. This game looks better in stills I think.

Anyway, the gameplay was quite fun. I enjoyed the open ended gameplay, do this or that but on your own terms. Very fun taking out enemies in different ways.

Not superimpressed but I found it quite enjoyable. :)

The nanosuit is a total nerf. It gives you just enough power to get in trouble and nothing more. The AI sucks and I can\'t believe how bad the hit detection is.  Honestly, if I shoot someone twice, they should die. It should never take more than two shots.  I\'ve yet to complete the demo out of pure boredom.

just personally curious if you didn\'t go into playing it thinking it was going to be a shitty letdown of a game, if u\'d have more positive thoughts about it.

probably not though...

I never figured it\'d live up to the hype, but I don\'t expect to be dissapointed, like I was.  To be honest, I was never against or for the game, I just wanted to give it a shot and came away underwhelmed and wondering what the hype was for.

I am still in the camp that expects the game to be a huge letdown. That and Crysis.

sry meng :D. Had to bring it up since you were talking about assassin\'s creed too, lol. I wouldn\'t be the AC fanboy that i am if i didnt. Maybe by letdown you just meant it wouldnt live up to the hype, but it more sounded like you thought it would suck.

I probably should say that im not big on crysis either. I played up to the camp in my first play through and havent had any desire to touch it since

My biggest worry about AC is the fact, I think they are trying so much at once, anytime a developer does that, something obvious usually gets overlooked (like the control). I hope I\'m wrong. I should also state I\'m not against AC , nor am I for it. I try to not expect much, so that I can be surprised.

As for Crysis, I wasn\'t one who actually built a PC for it, I learned my lesson the last time (Doom 3  / HL2 - one of which was a complete dissapointment and the other I never finished..). But still, I did build a "high end" machine and wanted to give the game a shot and simply was not impressed. Not only did it have a lot of issues (at least in my opinion), but at times it felt uninspired. I would say it felt more like a graphic update applied to Far Cry.  Things like the  nanosuit are a nice touch on paper, but I never really got the feeling of power from it, due to the fact it runs out of power so fast. It\'s one of those things that you can tell the developer had a vision, but through out the course of play testing, they went back and forth on how strong it should be, and in the end, they decided to nerf it to hell.

I guess I should also clarify what I mean when I say "letdown". I mean a letdown to the masses. These games are hyped for years upon years now\'a\'days and in the end, rarely is there a way for them to live up to the hype.  In fact, I think a lot of these developers would do best to hold off on showing their games until they are closer to release. These 2 - 3 waits only hurt most of these ultra hyped games, with the exceptions of game series like FF / MGS / Zelda (franchises that are held together by a strong fan base).

Still, even from your point of view it would be a good thing to not write this game off just yet until reviews of the final game start pouring in ; it might be way more balanced gameplay.

Personally, imo, more power stamina to the suit would feel as \'push this instant WIN button\'.

I definitly know what you mean. Ever since E3 06 i tried not to get that hyped about AC but it\'s taken over my brain, lol. But i\'ve even thought that exact same thing about the game, about them wanting to do so much. The only thing im afraid sprouting up because of that is glitches. I think they\'ve concentrated a lot on gameplay, especially since they decided not to have a jump button (its more of a sprint button, like a car) so they put effort into movements. But glitches are a whole other realm. After building such a ginormous map, they cant possibily find every single glitch in the game. Luckily, its not multiplayer so it wont be annoying/abused...hopefully any glitches won\'t take away from the game

And why shouldn\'t it be? You\'re a damn super solider.

Why wait for reviews? I can judge the demo just fine, as I\'ve played the demo.

I could only run the game at medium settings.. well, at least that\'s what the auto detect set everything too (X2 @ 2.4, 7900gt).  It looked good, ran pretty smooth.. probably could bump up a few graphical settings, but overall the graphics are  not quite as good as I was expecting (I ran it once at full everything just to see it in full dx9)... I remember being blown away by the graphics in FarCry more than this.  Also the game just feels sort of awkward at this point... I know it\'s only a demo but the final game won\'t be too different than what is shown in this demo.

And I don\'t like how you change nanosuit powers and they don\'t last nearly long enough.  It\'s nearly impossible for me to accurately change between powers while in the middle of a firefight (maybe there are keyboard shortcuts for them?).  I\'ll give it more time and play through the demo again, but I\'ll probably wait and pick it up when I can find it for $20 bucks used or something

I\'m much more impressed with cod4 at this point

The full game started out great. Awsome combat.. but just like FarCry, the game became an instant-bore as soon as the aliens/trigens entered the arena.

Borestastic.

Also, the NOMAD NOMAD NOMAD HELP US!! NOMAD HELP ME BRUSH MY TEETH.. NOMAD WIPE MY ASS.. NOMAD HELP ME FEED MY CHILD. NOMBAD HELP US WITH EVERYTHING BECAUSE WE ARE RETARDED.

Annd... the ultra-homosexual (like Hasselhoff sucking off the governator in a sauna) flying missions.. WHY THE HELL WOULD A DROPSHIP ENGAGE IN A DOGFIGHT?!?!?!?!?!

2/5

I may give Crysis another shot when the price drops on it.  I\'m totally engrossed in COD4 at the moment, what an excellent game.  And a testament that a game can look amazing and still be somewhat reasonable when it comes to system specs.  My 7900gt makes it look gorgeous @ 1680x1050

I\'m only maybe 2 hours into Crysis...not even. I haven\'t even seen the aliens yet. I\'m waiting for my nice monitor before I really get into it.

I will say tho, the best thing about crysis is playing with the super strength in DX10 physics. You really feel like the incredible hulk.
