This is the main game i\'ve been debating whether to get or not. The epic-ness of the game makes me want it, but the gameplay videos have been kind of boring. And most of the time im not too big on dialogue, not that i\'ve played many games where i was picking what to say (i havent even played oblivion).
But the game\'s getting great reviews. only knocks i\'ve seen are some graphical hitches..like how gears of war takes a second to load the textures. Some people love the side planets, other people say theyre boring and barren..but a lot of people say some of the main planets are the best stages they\'ve ever seen in a game.
They got all superficial on our solar system though...the valley on mars is ginormous and the earth is insanely close to the moon...but o well, lol.
-
I really don\'t understand what people see in these kind of games. It seems like a really boring game to me...
-
Yeah, I\'m afraid I\'d be bored to death after a couple of hours. So I\'ll pass for now.
-
I plan on getting it, as I\'m a Bioware whore - but right now, I\'m busy with Assassin\'s Creed, The Witcher, Team Fotress 2 and now Rock Band.
-
They didn\'t speak too highly of it on the 1up podcast. They said you could beat the game in around 14 hours. They also said that the side quests were lame.
They did say that the artwork and depth of the story/universe were well done.
-
14 hours sound good to me
-
Will wait for it to come to ps3...;)
-
I love everything Bioware has ever made.
I\'ll be getting it for sure.
-
14 hours sound good to me
14 hours is pretty lackluster for any game in an rpg imo... for say an action game that would be beyond nice as next gen action games seem to always be 5-8 hours now days 10 if ur lucky
when i get an 360 down the line tho i will defintely have to check this out cuz i always enjoyed their other games
-
I picked it up. Haven\'t played it much, but so far the story is interesting, but the combat seems lacking. Will give a more in depth impression tomorrow.
-
New update.
Pick this game up..NOW
I\'m around 10 hours in it and I\'d say I\'m half way done, but I\'ve done NO side quests (saving that for next time) and I\'m still having a blast. The combat isn\'t as cool as KoToR, but the story and character choices make it all worth it. At one point, I didn\'t do a side quest as I was being an arrogant bastard and in return, hours down the road, I needed the alignment with that friendship and simply didn\'t have it, in return, I had to do something I really felt bad about. Friggin\' great game. One of the few that I will actually play more than once.
And calling Mass Effect an RPG isn\'t really accurate. I would say it\'s an action game, with a lot of character development, if that makes sense
-
going to get this after finals. it\'ll be a shitty 2 weeks so ill deserve a new game.

and yea i can agree to that - i would say it has a lot of rpg elements but isnt really an rpg - this is one of the games i defintely want to pick up tho down the line when i finally get an xbox
-
raz, you said you havent done any of the side missions, but do you know generally how free-roam the planets are and how many planets there are?
and for kicks, is mars and the moon the only visitable places in our solar system?

30, I believe.
-
Finished first playthru, ended up being lvl 33. Well worth buying.
-
Got it, starts out slow, but I\'m really engaged in all the missions now. I\'m going to really get into it over winter break.
-
PC version. I heard there was a shit-ton of problems with the 360 version, slowdowns, texture pop-in, glitchy etc.

Yes, because there is a PC version, right? Oh wait.......THERE ISN\'T.
Dumbass.
As for problems, "shit-ton" is abit extreme. Yes, there was some slowdown, but that is about it. I played the whole game, TWICE without a single freeze up or big glitch. There is most certainly a lot more big titles out there with more serious glitches than Mass Effect.
As for the slowdown, that isn\'t a glitch, it\'s just the engine. It\'s a problem Bioware has had with every single game they\'ve made and I doubt it\'ll be fixed anytime soon.
-
While I wouldn\'t count on it, a PC version isn\'t out of the realm of possibilities. It certainly wouldn\'t be coming out for quite some time though and who is to say the PC version would fix any of the issues that the 360 version suffers from?
KoTOR was just as buggy on the PC as the xbox, at least from my experience.
I Plan on picking this game up along with a 360 over christmas break.
-
I would say, eventually a PC version may happen, but to say and wait for the PC version is absurd. There is no guarantee there will be one and if so, it will be at least two years down the road.
KOTOR and Jade Empire both suffered the same exact problems. Bioware makes great RPGS, but on the technical side they are usually lacking.

Got ME from my brother. pretty fun game, but i kind of get impatient with figuring out how to do stuff so i use trial and error a little too much with new games..mainly with this cover system. but ill get the hang of it
i\'ve only gotten to the train station and the story\'s already interested me/suprised me. and i\'ve been liking the dialogue stuff a lot..combat does seem kind of the weaker point..i like the gun battles but it just seems like it\'s missing something
-
The combat is beyond weak. You can go through the whole game without knowing anything about upgrading your weapons or the biotics. I know, I did. My first playthru, I went in each mission, shot stuff and advanced. Ended up beating the game that way also.
-
i dont even think im doing biotics..think i just did soldier this time around. next time ill do vanguard er something.
Usually ill play the game the first time exactly how i\'d play it, with no achievements or anything like that in mind. then ill play responding like a dick and what-not.
and i think im going to have a hard time keeping my teamates alive, lol. i\'ve already lost one..going to suck when i have people i want to keep..probably end up not using them till the end
-
im not really getting the combat system..maybe i shouldve done something with biotics, but 1) my teamates just stand there and take it/never do what i want them to do (whenever i say \'go here\' they go there, and then start following me around) and 2) I keep getting overwhelmed with people running at me and eventually i die. the biotics guys just keep knocking me down since theres like 10 at a time running at me
-
22 hours, level 45 guy on my first playthrough.
kick ass game
not sure if im going to do all the side missions again though..i\'d want to but i cant imagine spending 22 hours for every playthrough to get all the achievements. just not sure how to get different endings, and i guess side missions differ in who you pick as a character
-
i played for two hours, sent right back to gamefly same day.
back to cod4

whommp whooommp
what the hell could you have possibily done in 2 hours? i think you fight once, at most
-

We\'re proud of you. You loaded a game up, played two hours and sent it back. Congrat\'s to you.
-
i wasted two minutes of your time, LIC.
mission accomplished.
viper, skipping trite dialog has its privileges.

So you\'ve been playing more COD4? ;)

Oh, so you must also not play Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy games.
-
trite dialog isn\'t the same animal as dialog.
it\'s like they tried to hard too fill up all those loading times.
sam, i didn\'t think i\'d like cod4 as i always hated counterstrike.
-

Hide the loading times? That was what the elevators do. As for "trite dialog" and "dialog", no game has more "trite dialog" than MGS.
You should also actually know what you\'re talking about, before you speak. I\'m talking about your flat out dumb comment about hiding loading times.
-
i didnt think the dialog was bad..only thing i hope they change is either you\'re like "Im honor\'ed to be in your presence" or "fuck you" in your options
-
just got it... not far what so ever, but really enjoying it at the mo.. more a action rpg than a rpg....
-
So you\'ve been playing more COD4?
Big difference in being an arrogant prick (MM) or a game causing you to actually want to hurl. Due to the frame rate and perspective, I can\'t play COD4 for more than ten minutes at a time.
-
are all FPS\'s nausiating to you?
not sure what\'s different in COD4 than other FPS\'s besides it probably being the most realistic looking one (crysis doesnt count)
-
Only a few aren\'t.
Doom
Doom 2
Team Fortress 2
Almost every other ones make me wanna hurl. Basically, any where I am required to look up and down.
