PS3 has become leading development platform !
Sony America boss Jack Tretton says that developers are beginning to create games primarily on PlayStation 3 and then port them to other formats, reversing the early trend of focusing on Xbox 360 and PC and dealing with PS3 as an afterthought.
"We are now starting to see developers creating games on PS3 and then porting them to other platforms such as EA\'s Burnout [Paradise]," Tretton said in an IGN interview.
"Developers are telling us that they are starting to create their games on PS3 first and take advantage of the hardware capabilities and then port down to other platforms so we are seeing tremendous progress from the third party community in terms of what they are able to do with our development kits."

That\'s great !

Nice biased source. Get me a source from someone not at Sony and I\'ll believe it. As it stands, games are being ported to the PS3 and most those ports are turning out like total shit (Lost Planet, The Orange Box and others).
-
wow and your source is for that comment raz?
btw... why even mention Lost Planet... because you saw one early released screencap with crappy mech textures suddenly you know what final port of game will look like when released?
seriously...
but on topic i would rather hear it from a dev\'s mouth myself not Tretton
-
Yeah...this just sounds like more spin and damage control by sony....i\'m confident tho sooner or later they\'ll get their s**t together...
-
Actually, several devs have confirmed that botched-port days are over. EA, Ubisoft etc. And since Epic thanks to Sony have managed to deliver a working UE3.0 engine to the PS3 things are looking very bright.
IIRC it has been said for a while that it is easier having PS3 as main platform as it is easier porting from PS3 to 360 than the other way around. So these news are not very surprising to me. Its just a way more efficient way of doing ports, instead of having to delay the PS3 version (costing money) because of issues with porting from 360 to PS3. Why these news now? Well the first gen games have mostly been delivered, those games started out on 360 when PS3 wasnt even out.. Now a new wave of games are coming out and they can choose PS3 as base platform.
(Lost Planet, The Orange Box and others)
Dont be a drama queen. Those are the two worst examples. :applause:
-
Burnout and GTA are the only two titles that i\'m aware of that devs have obviously developed on the PS3 first. However, give the PS3 another year to mature and it\'ll probably be pretty even, that is, if total sales for both consoles even out. Seeing as some of Sony\'s big sequels coming out soon, that will probably happen.
I don\'t see PS3 becoming the dominant developer platform though.
-
Dont be a drama queen. Those are the two worst examples. :applause:
there\'s actually a lot more. even assassin\'s creed\'s ps3 version got lower scores on ign and they had a ps3 team and a 360 team..not a port
But yea, i\'d like to hear that from developers since it\'s mainly been developers wanting to avoid the console wars controversey. The whole news quote just sounds a little too..perfect for the ps3, like sony is running in a field of dandelions and life is beautiful
-

I was thinking the exact same thing. As soon as I read it was from a Sony rep, I dismissed the article. MS is probably saying the exact same thing.
-
ask Criterion Games

ask Criterion Games
we\'ve already acknowledged burnout
the way he\'s talking he\'s saying it\'s universal..not just one developer. But the whole quote seems taken out of context and/or exaggerated

and?

My point is, it was the same exact knee jerk reaction this kind of news would of received, had it not been from Sony, but another one of the companies. Until we see actual developers saying they are putting the PS3 first, I don\'t think you can really trust in what is being said. It\'s Sony spin - just like MS saying the same, would be MS spin.
-
and?
and what? fuckin ambiguous posts...
one developer uses the ps3 before the 360, now all of a sudden ALL of them are?

Sure there are more games that are worse off on PS3, but not as bad as Orange Box and Lost Planet (which sucks huge cock anyways :D ).
Assassins Creed is not as bad, there is a difference but not as big.
Ubisoft started with the PS3 version after starting up the game on the 360. The first versions of the game were on 360, even when Ubi said it was a PS3 exclusive. :liar:
-
The first versions of the game were on 360, even when Ubi said it was a PS3 exclusive. :liar:
meaning that it was a port? they said on the dvd (special edition of the game) that they had 2 separate teams. then again they also said the side-quests and investigation missions would be diverse, lol
But i know what you mean..i try not to get caught up in all that bs since i probably wouldnt see a difference in most of the games if i had both consoles
-
They also had separate teams for COD4 and I think DMC4 as well
-
and what? fuckin ambiguous posts...

how do you know it\'s only one?
has every dev stated their intentions?
-
you\'re right,
since no dev has stated its intentions we\'re gonna have to assume they will put ps3 first from now on
-
how do you know it\'s only one?
has every dev stated their intentions?
you\'re impossible
-
just as irrational as saying "just one dev" when we don\'t know.
i\'ll vote for the "who cares" agenda.
the games will speak for themselves once released.
-
just as irrational as saying "just one dev" when we don\'t know.
just about as irrational as saying its more than one dev when we dont know
i said "just one dev" because i was referring to critereon, which is the one dev that i know of..and i was referring to that one dev because that doesn\'t mean the majority is all of a sudden using it.
-
nor does it mean they aren\'t.
you have as much evidence as i do.

Can\'t argue with results.
*tries not to post*
cant...
the results have been even..most games are identical, some games have the ps3 version as better, some games have the 360 as better.
I come up with madden, vegas, assassins, mlb 2k7..you come up with dirt, oblivion, and whatever else.
i dont even see how you can say the results show the ps3 is on top
-
Who said the PS3 is on top?
Most likely games that are done on the PS3 and ported to the 360 later will look identical. Some rare occasions might look better on the PS3. But that will happen mostly if developers do things that are very very specific to the PS3\'s architecture. I dont see this though as a common thing unless the game wasnt planned to be multiplatform from the beginning originally.
-
Who said the PS3 is on top?
2 ps3 fanboys say the games speak for themselves, what do you think theyre implying?
and if theyre saying future games are going to look better (mind telling me what the lottery numbers are while you\'re at it?), i\'ve been saying from the beginning that the ps3 should become the better system because hopefully dev\'s will be able to use the ps3 correctly, and not spend 5 years like GT and MGS..in the mean time, have fun paying for untouched potential.

Never said the PS3 is on top. mm said "the games will speak for themselves...."

Well I dont know what to make out of it. Personally what I got is that developers are starting to get the hang of it, and they are beginning to make games on the PS3 that look just as good. Ther are a few trade offs on both consoles though. I dont think the PS3 is drastically better than the 360. Some things the 360 does them better, others the PS3.
What untouched potential are you speaking of and what do you mean by "not spend 5 years like GT and MGS" btw? Not trying to attack you there mind you. Just trying to understand better what you are saying.
I think some games are exploiting the console\'s potential or are bound to exploit them. Its just that it is not the multiplatform games that seem to do that (in terms of exploiting very specific characteristics), although some do amazing things on both consoles
-

im just kind of tired of games taking forever to be released, and almost never living up to expectations because in the many years it takes to make that one game, people talk about it for every day, 365 days. And games like MGS are really the only ones using the ps3\'s potential..everything since then can run on the 360 just as well..and no games after MGS in the near future is coming out that is using the ps3 like that.
for me to spend the extra money, ill need more games to not only be like MGS, but for the games to actually be released instead of just hearsay and \'i cant wait\'
if i were these companies, i wouldnt talk about the game 4 years in advance. I\'d say \'yes, its coming out\' and never talk about it until its far in development. maybe a year before the release at most, while expecting some delays
-
I personally gurantee that , to the average gamer, MGS 4 will not deliver on the expectations that it has built up. The only people who will love it, are the ones who spent $600 dollars on a system, for a game that was two years away.
And yes, I can say this with certainy. Why? Because no game can live up to the hype that magazines and the web forums give these games now\'a\'days. Konami\'s MGS4 will just be another victim of this.
me to spend the extra money, ill need more games to not only be like MGS, but for the games to actually be released instead of just hearsay and \'i cant wait\'
Once we hit the $400 mark, the days of buying a system for one game in the future really died for me. It\'s simply to much money to put up, when I don\'t even have a clue on what the end results will be. I went from someone who lined up for every launch since the Super NES, to someone, who has bought one next generation system so far and waiting to buy the others. I simply cannot justify the price of these consoles , until the games I want are out and I see how they actually deliver.
f i were these companies, i wouldnt talk about the game 4 years in advance. I\'d say \'yes, its coming out\' and never talk about it until its far in development. maybe a year before the release at most, while expecting some delays
It\'s a catch 22, in one sense. If you don\'t hype your game enough ahead of time, you will get lost in the midst of all these other big titles that are hyped from the time they are simple a "code name title". The other catch is, if you go ahead and hype it advance, there is a big chance at one point, you\'re going to over hype and you can\'t meet the expectations. Some companies strike a great balance on this, they are few and far bewteen. I think Nintendo is one. You look at titles like Mario Galaxy and the hype was there, but it was never that huge , it was enough to keep the title in mind and when it was released, it met and surpassed what people expected. They are doing the exact same thing with Super Smash Bro\'s.
Companies really have to step up and rethink the marketing. Look at Mass Effect, go ahead and YouTube some E3 builds of it. It is amazing how much that title changed and how much of it was cut on the editing floor. A lot of things were promised and never delivered. Was it still a great game? Sure, but when I look back at what was promised, I can\'t help but feel let down. A feeling that could of been totally avoided, had Bioware kept their game development more closed or simply delivered on what they promised on the first place.

thats really true. AC was supposed to be THE game that defined "next gen"..and if that\'s the case than next gen is more focused on looks than gameplay, which is actually pretty accurate. but the way they were hyping it, gameplay sounded like it was going to be revolutionary to people. I\'m a pessimist, so im never disappointed, lol.
-
we\'re also comparing titles that are released lately or some time ago.
i\'ll be surprised if PS3 titles don\'t take better advantage of hardware throughout 08 and run better than their 360 counterparts.

You may be right , but to play devils advocate, history has shown you may be wrong. Your whole argument is based on the fact that the PS3 has superior hardware and because of the difficulity of developing, we won\'t see the advantage until later in the year. This is the same exact argument the Saturn used, as it had vastly superior hardware and while it did eventually show , it was way to late in the consoles life. If sales don\'t increase for Sony enough to warrant developers to put more exclusive titles on the system, we are going to continue to see ports and ports that are shoddy.

Oh I understand now what you are saying.
Yeah both consoles are very close in terms of visuals. They are technically too close too. But I think the PS3 has some other great looking games on it except from the unreleased MGS, GT, FF(the new trailer looks mindblowing btw) etc. I think the nature of these games kind of excuses the delays though (reasons unrelated to the difficulty of development) and it is natural for people to talk about these, knowing the huge fanbase and the impact they had in the past.
But I ve played Uncharted, Rachet and Clank, and Heavenly Sword on it and they are doing great things on the console, and things that probably would have taken a bit of extra work to appear on the 360 or even be forced to change the design of the games.
Generally I agree though that they are way too close in their offerings currently. The majority of great games are multipltform, with only a very few exceptional exclusives doing some differentiation. Wether someone will go to the 360 or the PS3 it will depend on his personal tastes.
I ve many times found myself in a difficult position when I was asked by my friends or relatives what console to buy (everyone seems to come to me for some reason ), and I would spend hours with them in shops or at my house (showing them information, games and footage) until they decided which one to get since the line of difference is too thin in terms of software quality.
Some went with a 360, some with a PS3, and they were all equally satisfied at the end.
-
Two games where PS3 has been the lead platform, the results are in.
Burnout Paradise (based on DEMO): PS3 version, silky smooth 60fps. 360-version, has some slowdowns.
Devil May Cry 4 - Very close but the 360 version has some slowdowns + screentearing according to sources while the PS3 version is 60fps solid. Talk of some downgraded enemies on 360, not confirmed.
Both games are out Q1 2008.
i\'ll be surprised if PS3 titles don\'t take better advantage of hardware throughout 08 and run better than their 360 counterparts.
This will mostly be true when talking about exclusive games. I think very few multiplatform games will truly shine on PS3 as they are often developed with the weaker platform in mind (360). Sure some framerate advatage might be there (DMC4, BP etc) like with PS2 vs Xbox but not much more. :/
Anyway, PS3s power has already been shown in the exclusive titles and as of right now it looks like the 360 cant keep up in terms of tech-awesomness. Not surprising. :)
-
I just want to know what exclusive titles have shown the "tech-awesomness", because I sure haven\'t seen any.
-
besides GT5 prologue?
-
You mean, a racing game that is pathetic backgrounds. And in all honesty, doesn\'t look all that revolutionary. Much like GT3, a product of it\'s own hype. Yea, the cars look good, but the tree\'s and people look downright piss poor.

have you even played the demo from the japanese PSN, LIC?
i suggest it before continuing.

I just want to know what exclusive titles have shown the "tech-awesomness", because I sure haven\'t seen any.
Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, Killzone 2.. Titles that pretty much leaves the best efforts on 360 eating dust.
While GT5P might have a few problems, it still pwns Forza 2 which basically looks like Forza HD. :)
-
Killzone 2? Oh my god, let me just laugh now. A game that is not OUT and the developers have already admitted to "touching up" the photos that are out of it.
Rachet and Clank - Yes, good looking , but nowhere near great.
Uncharted - I\'ll give you this one.
GT - Every single one of those look good in replays, but they really aren\'t all that impressive. Then again, I don\'t remember the last time a racing game impressed me. Wow, a more detailed car, going around a track. Yippie. Then again, GT also doesn\'t feature real time damage , dynamic weather and what not. Sure does free up a lot of resources when you neglect things that most standard racing games have now\'a\'days.
-

Yes, doing a little adjusting of the contrast is such a serious crime!
To even doubt Killzone 2s technical potency after all the devs have shown. Shame on you. :) Go download the trailer and all the walkthrough videos that are out there.
Guerrilla Games is not trying to fool anyone, they have been extremely open about everything, there are no smoke and mirrors with this game.
Rachet and Clank - Yes, good looking , but nowhere near great.
Still better than anything on the other platforms. ;)
Seeing a next gen game running in 60fps is so rare I want to cry.
-
Your Killzone 2 hype reminds me of the original Killzone hype. Turned out to be a big disappointment. Expect the same.

Eh.. no.
The difference is quite big. Back then GG was independent, KZ1s idea was awesome but they didnt manage to pull through on all levels. Plus the development was very hush-hush compared to now.
This time its quite clear how much they have grown. GG is owned by Sony, they are being assisted in all ways possible by SCEWWS.
This time they have past experience to go on, they have taken a great deal of feedback based on Killzone 1, and they are ready to start up the beta processes (open beta) in the next year. They are really asking for player input.
People have already been given the chance to play the game, go ahead and read N’Gai Croals glowing impressions.
http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/levelup/archive/2007/07/12/world-exclusive-expanded-details-on-killzone-2.aspx
Its clear that todays GG are much different from the newly hatched GG which developed Killzone 1.

Which means nothing until the finished project is out there.
I\'ve seen glowing previews of total crap-ass games. It\'s called hype.

Kane and Lynch is the epitomy of that. The rappeling down the building, and even just the beginning with both their faces shifting with the bad ass music.
could make for a good movie though.
Killswitch 2 im thinking will be good but nothing amazing. I heard they finally put a 1st person cover system in and it looked really stupid..but hopefully itll be the building block for someone to make an awesome one.
-
Assasin\'s Creed was another.
Mass Effect.
Kane and Lynch.
The list goes on and on...So posting some glowing preview means... NOTHING . Saying they changed developers..means.. NOTHING until the finished product is out there.
-
Killzone 2? Oh my god, let me just laugh now. A game that is not OUT and the developers have already admitted to "touching up" the photos that are out of it.
And the trolls hit again. The only images that were touched up were the very very last. The originals were captures directly from the video they showed and people were impressed since then.
The new (touched up) ones were the exactly same old images with some color correction. Nobody noticed any difference, everyone wondered what was the new thing about them until some super troll sites started comparing the worst video captures with the newer images to make a huge deal out of it. Trolls partied and they still do even in here.
-
Do you know any other words, other than "troll"? I understand that you are in a second world country (or is it third world?) and your education system is most likely terrible, but honestly, you used the word "troll" or a variation of it three times in such a small little post.
By the way, touched up photos are still touched up photos. If you don\'t want someone to doubt your product, don\'t touch them up. Once you touch the photos up and get busted for it, then people start to doubt the honesty of your product.
-

Their is no other word that can come into my mind when you are present
And really you are hurting yourself with your baseless arguements. Fastson\'s point is that Killzone 2 was impressive and it werent for the touched up photos to begin with. You tried to make it look like people were impressed because of the touched up photos from the beginning since you dont know what you are talking about.
Making your last post totally irrelevant and another failed attempt to save yourself
-
You\'re saying someone has a baseless argument.
I\'ve heard it all now..
You\'re the king of that. Not to mention, you\'re the PS2 troll who took Clowd\'s place as the laughing stock of the board. Must be annoying for people on a PS2 forum to call you a fanboy and troll on a Sony board.
-
I dont care what you or anyone else thinks about me. The majority of members think otherwise. I dont give a damn about what 3 or 4 of you think about me.I dont come into the board spreading bs.
You took that crown. Proof is this very thread and the DMC thread as well as so many others. I supported the 360 and the PS3 equally but you are so annoyed about the latter. You are the one who got banned completely with his childish attitude, you are the one that many forum members expressed their dislike about and you are the one making a fool out of himself at this very moment.
-
The majority of members think otherwise.
Where are these members? I don\'t think I\'ve ever seen a single person take up for you. And to sit here and say, "I don\'t care what anyone else thinks about me.." , but in the same sentence to say the "majority of members think otherwise" is just classic. You can\'t even stand ground on one single thing.
I have to see this.
I supported the 360 and the PS3 equally but you are so annoyed about the latter. You are the one who got banned completely with his childish attitude,
 You support the 360 and PS3 equally? Oh come on. Just quit being a lying bitch.
Also remember, I wanted banned and don\'t really care. I got annoyed, abused my mod privileges (btw, was you ever basically voted a mod? No..Oh..OK). Was it a stupid thing to do? Sure, but I grew tired of the bullshit that this board had became. Instead of stepping down (which would of been the more adult thing to do, I admit), I went on a rampage, caused about two seconds worth of havoc and got banned. Took a break, realized there is a few people here I still enjoy conversing with and came back.
-
I am not concerned with your worries

You must be, because you\'re so fucking stupid you respond every time I post something that could be taken as a slightly negative PS3 comment.
-

Of course, it isnt over until the fat lady sings. :gfight:
But I got this feeling with KZ2. Everything so far seems so spot on, I cant say that with K&L which felt.. off, eventhough I had hope just because the game was being made by IO.
-

And I hope you\'re right. We touched on this earlier tho\' and that is the whole hype factor. We see these big games hyped up so much now, that the consumer and media basically give them a great review, before the game is even near finished. Maybe that is a factor of the internet. Maybe it\'s a factor that gaming has became such big industry, but either way, it\'s a sad state. it inflates sells on games that normally wouldn\'t make it .
-

Seems stupidity is common since you are doing the same exact thing and you many times made it obvious how much you need me.
-
Don\'t amuse your with thinking I "need you". I\'m merely bored. I really don\'t care that you defend the PS3, it just makes you an easy target for easy insults. Plus, I enjoy see\'ing your drivel and then also, as most threads, someone usually ends up joining the thread to call you an idiot, and I get even more enjoyment.

Thats what I said. Thats why you need me. I am the solution to your boring life. Seems you are way too often bored and in need to make fun of me to make yourself feel better, for someone who is supposed to be smarter than I am and has more life

I never claimed to have more of a life.
I\'m often bored.
What else am I suppose to do? Parent my children?
Pfft.
Don\'t need you tho\'. I\'d just make fun of Bobo. He isn\'t here. That\'d be another easy target.
