The wifey absolutely shocked me this christmas when i opened my present and saw that it was a ps3!...:D...she bought kane and lynch and madden 07...kane and lynch was because before the game actually came out i was always talkin\' about how that game was goin\' to be the s**t!...and actually it was, but in a bad way...and madden 07? well i guess she knows that i just like football in general why 07?... i have no clue...in any case i\'m gonna have to give her a special biggie size order of the nightstick...:fro:
My impressions of kane and lynch?....well i gotta admit i was let down at how the game plays,..i mean it\'s not bad but it\'s really not great either, and the camera controls can be really crazy at times....graphically yea..this game visuals can pass for last gen...nothin\' bad but nothin\' spectacular either...
Madden 07?....i know that this was ea\'s 1st effort and while this game looks good graphically,...the gameplay and choppy animation makes this game complete garbage,.i still deem espn\'s nfl 2k5 the best football game ever...wow i really didn\'t plan on havin\' a ps3 this early in the game, but i look foward to gettin,...heavenly sword, assasins creed and drake\'s fortune...:fro:

cool presents there. which version of ps3 did your wife bought you?
-
40g...

awesome gift
madden 06 was the first effort..and that is up there with the worst sports video games ever made..07 was alright, but i did get bored with it. 08 is a lot better, but the interceptions are gay as hell (cornerbacks warp in front/the ball literally goes through the WR\'s hands) and the fumbles are too much
K&L shouldve been better, but i was relatively pleased with the demo (all things considering). I\'d never spend a dime on it, but if i got it as a gift, preferably from someone i dont know that well so they didnt pay for it, id like it enough to play through it. I just couldnt figure out the cover system
-
That\'s an awesome gift. Your wife sounds awesome too.
Now trade in K&L and get Uncharted.

Congrats clips. :D

I guess I\'m gonna have to propose to my girlfriend too then....

I\'m starting to actually like kane and lynch more now,..being that i have the controls down a bit better,...i honestly have to say that it\'s not as bad as some reviews make it out to be...it\'s like your average gun-toting action flick, with a couple of low-lifes that star as the main draw. it\'s a decent shooter *once you get the controls down* and there\'s actually fun to be had with this title...tho i can see why some will criticize it, for me i like 3rd person shooters and the grimey characters are straight out of a decent hollywood action flick..tho they do use the "F" word waay too much in the dialogue...
My next purchase will probably be between drakes and assasins creed,...i\'m leaning more toward drakes and while assasins creed looks great, i keep reading alot about the repetivness of the game and the long and boring missions, and that may just keep me from buyin\' it altogether....i\'m really just waitin\' for devil may cry, metal gear, RE5, Army of Two, and silent hill 5.
-
You dont find the missions horrendus? The only levels I didnt hate were the prison level, the bank robbery and the one where you take a dive of a building. Oh and the mission that looked so cool in all the previews (Japanese nightclub) was such a joke.. I couldnt see ANYTHING at all.
And I was playing 2-player co-op which usually makes decent games more fun.
-
clips,
thinking of renting or purchasing any blu ray movies in HD yet?

Yea some of the missions are frustrating, *a couple of those jungle missions come to mind*...i think if they would\'ve tightened up the controls just a bit and developed the characters just a bit more, cause even coming towards the end, i still found myself kinda not caring for either one...
Paul,..i haven\'t picked up anything other than the spider-man blu-ray disk that came with it.
-
oh, how do you like the picture quality of the spider-man 3 on blu ray? can you distinguish the difference compare any dvd?
-
oh, how do you like the picture quality of the spider-man 3 on blu ray? can you distinguish the difference compare any dvd?
Well i gotta admit upon seeing the blu-ray movie in action, there is a difference that you can see,...the blu-ray movie compared to the regular spider-man dvd that i\'ve seen before is really about i\'d say three times more clearer and sharper than the regular dvd, and this is comin\' from a guy who is still pretty much content with the visual of regular dvd\'s.
I\'m not that much of a tech head so if blu-ray somehow falls off i\'ll probably still will be content with the visual of regular dvd\'s, if it turns out that blu-ray actually becomes the dominant platform for movies then that will only prove to be an added bonus because the movies really are pretty impressive to watch...
-
what video connection did you use? HDMI or component? What resolution did you output your blu ray?
-
Well i guess it would be component because all i did was just hook up those rgb cables (yellow, red, white) to the back of the tv and played the movie and i didn\'t even bother with the resolutions, the only thing i did with the ps3 as far as the menus were concerned was just set the time and a name for my profile...when i get some time i\'ll mess around with the other menus...i have it hooked up to my 32 inch toshiba and i\'m not even sure what the resoultion is on that thing....like i said i\'m not a tech head in the least when it comes to various types of connections and outputs...:p.
-
that would be composite (yellow, red, white)
if your tv can support it you might want to invest in some component cables to get a decent picture.. or if you have a HDTV get yourself a dang HDMI from monoprice.com
-
like i said i\'m not a tech head in the least when it comes to various types of connections and outputs...:p.
couldve fooled me :D

Then you are not getting HD picture there. yellow, red, and white cable are for composite video picture with stereo sound.
Do you have an HDTV? If so, hook it up with HDMI. its the best possible picture connection, and the most simple connection too because all its use was just one cable. Think of it like USB, only the speed rate is much faster.

is your 32" TV HDTV or SDTV? If it\'s not HDTV, but SDTV, try to see if your SDTV have component video inputs that are like this "Red, Blue, and Green," for video and Red, and White for Audio. That is the annoying thing about analog connections is that it requires a lot of cables for video and audio to get the best possible picture...
Added: Oh yeah, do you have xbox360? How did you hook up your 360?
-
Then you are not getting HD picture there. yellow, red, and white cable are for composite video picture with stereo sound.
It\'s still hd if you have yellow, red, and white cables..if it\'s an hdtv of course
the 360 comes with component cables and it has a switch "hd or non-hd"..id imagine theres something similar for the ps3
-

That\'s where you are wrong. yellow is for "composite" video. the remaining red, and white cables are for audio left channel and audio right channel.
yellow coded cable is for only sending 480i SD picture where all the 3 color (red, blue, and grayscale) are sent in one single cable in analog. Causing color smearing because 3 colors are cramp into one signal path. It cannot output anything higher than 480i, like 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. Thus making it only SD quality.
Not even S-Video can send anything higher than 480i. Again, that\'s the highest quality it can send for S-Video.
Only Component Video can send anything higher than 480i, such as 720p, 1080i, and even 1080p.
Component Video cables are color coded like this: Red, Blue, and Green. Which the Red cable send the red color channel and can be in 480i, 720p, 1080i, or even 1080p for each color channel. Like Blue coded cable send blue color channel. Green actually send luminance or gray scale channel. Again, each color channel can be in standard defintion 480i or high definition 720p, 1080i, and 1080p.
Another popular video connection for analog that support SD and HD signal is VGA which is mostly use for hooking up a computer monitor.
VGA is a single cable that have like 15 pins in them. But doesn\'t mean it has to uses all 15 pins. Because it can support up to 15 pins, each pin can send the 3 primary color channel separately like red, green, and blue signal (RGB), hence no color smearing. That means there are 12 pins left, which can send other information which I am not really familiar with, but i think it might have to do with resolution and refresh rate and other data information.

Anyway,

this is what it look like for composite video cable for PlayStation 1, ps2, and ps3.

This is what it a typical S-Video Cable looks like for PlayStation 1-3.

This is what it could look like for Component Video cable for Playstation 2 -3.
Thanks goodness, there is a picture diagram for component Video cable. As you can see from the diagram, Y is luminance (gray scale), Pb is Blue, and Pr is Red all of which are in analog signal. Although the label is somewhat wrong writing it as Cb and Cr which means digital signal for blue and Red when its actually Pb and Pr...

Damn paul,..you be breakin\' s**t down!..:D heh you really know your stuff..not sayin that viper and "J" don\'t have any knowledge either but you\'re real specific when it comes to the techincal.....now i\'m pretty sure my toshiba probably isn\'t hd, but irecently bought a 55 inch rear projection tv...and i\'m sure that has to have some of the latest advances in modern technology...actually i made a thread somewhere in here about it...let me go look for it...
*edit*...here it is,...but you and a bunch of other members responded to just about the same or similar questions that\'s bein addressed here...:)...and the pic of my set isn\'t there anymore...:(

yeah,
since you have the 55" HDTV, connect the PS3 to that HDTV with HDMI. You will be able to notice and appreciate the HD detail resolution like 720p, and 1080p for your ps3.

pictures of HDMI. the most simple connection and best possible picture and sound too.
