So, sometime after 11 last night (prolly around 3ish), our cars got broken into. Me, my brother and my dad typically leave our cars unlocked in the driveway because we live in a really nice neighborhood. Guess we had a full sense of security. Clips would know my area, he lived not too far from me. But, some douchebags last night broke into about 8 people\'s cars. My neighbor got all his cars broken into and stole all his work tools, satellite radio, iPods, everything. My other neighbors I don\'t know about. But they got my brother\'s wallet, iPod and credit cards.
They actually went online and charged two grand worth of electronics from Best Buy and Walmart. The card company gave numbers in which to give to the police so they can get the IP address and the shipping address of the orderee. Also, the police searched my brothers car and found his sunglasses with a print. He\'s really anal about his sunglasses so he\'s 100% sure the print isn\'t his, considering he said he cleaned them last night. It was a perfect thumb print so they\'re gonna match it up.
The funny thing is my car was unlocked too and no one went inside. My mom\'s car was locked (she\'s the only smart one I guess, lol) but not one thing in my car was touched. All the trash, my work clothes, everything was as I left it. Good thing I brought my mp3 player in yesterday to charge it or else that would have been gone, not that I would have cared. I would have collected the insurance and bought a better one. So I guess I\'m a bit disappointed about that ;) My dad\'s truck was torn apart. Everything was all over the place. My dad\'s work van we don\'t know about yet. He says nothing was stolen.

i live in a townhouse neighborhood on a golf course with 5 police officers living on my block and i still lock my shit

You are all stupid for not locking your shit up, unless you have nothing to steal in your car. The fact that the car was unlocked should mean you ain\'t getting shit from any insurance companies.
Additionally, if you leave something in your car worth stealing chances are at somepoint some little prick might come along and actually steal it. For instance you go around blairing your system all the time, someone is going to notice that and want to steal your shit, I used to see that all the time. Also do you guys keep your lights on out front? That is normally a good idea, I doubt if it was well lit anything would have been stolen.

Too bad I guess. But I would never ever leave my car unlocked, no matter how great I thought the \'hood was. :)

I get on my wife all the time about leaving her car unlocked. I live in a nice area too, but I always lock up my car and take anything nice inside with me. My wife often leaves her purse, digital camera, cell phone on the passenger seat... so each night I have to go over taker her shit inside and lock her car too.
I know some kids back in high school who used to travel to nice areas just to go around and steal shit out of unlocked cars. Probably what happened to you.
Sucks

clips did it. He lives near by.

My ipod got swiped a couple months ago. I was at a restaurant, and went to the truck to get diaper wipes, and forgot to relock it. 10 minutes later, I remembered, and it was already gone. Along with my Monster transmitter. Fuckers.

Its a false sense of security. Don\'t judge me and my family and say we\'re stupid because we felt safe in our own house and neighborhood. 8 of my neighbors felt the same way so it just wasn\'t us. And I don\'t go blairing my system in my car because I have nothing to blair, plus I have enough problems with my hearing as it is. So stop judging me. You don\'t know shit.
I had nothing of value in my car. I usually keep my mp3 player out in my car when I\'m home but brought it inside to charge it last night. I usually lock my car but didn\'t last night because I was expecting to go out and didn\'t bother to go outside in the rain to lock it before I went to sleep.

I judge thee unwise.
Now wise up and lock you doors. You never know when a zombie outbreak will happen.

Maybe not stupid, but naive, maybe? You are naive to think because of where you live someone won\'t have the opportunity or the thought to come in and break in to something of yours, especially if you leave the car unlocked.

That I\'ll agree to. You know, you live in a really nice neighborhood where the most crime is traffic violations or loitering. There never is anything too big in my town except perpetuated by teenagers. Something of this magnitude is something of a real rarity. I\'ve heard of random breakins but its over stupid stuff, nothing like this. Because of it, you get that mentality that you can do stuff like leave car doors unlocked and never worry about this. Luckily, the most valuable thing I keep in my car is my mp3 player which in public gets put away and at home I typically leave it out (again, sense of security) unless I\'m charging it. But that\'s gonna change.

Who walks away from their car without locking it? All it takes is one press of the keyfob.
Do you have an old car with manual door locks?

I had a keyfob to which I used to lock my doors from the comfort of my living room. But it got smashed and now its manual entry. I obviously locked it in public. Just until recently, not in my driveway. I always used to lock it then kinda figured it was a waste since it was my driveway. Kinda dumb.

This is the first time I have ever heard about people not locking their cars. I thought it was pretty much a given that people lock their cars...

New Jersey is a haven for peace. There are no car jackings there. No crime. Nothing negative about NJ except the smell.

Well unless you live in Newark or Camden. Carjacking is how people get to work ;)

That sucks titan...i used to have people break that small triangular window in the rear of my maxima when i used to live in newark,...they never took anything, they would just bust the windows of the cars in the parking lot...s**t used to piss me off.....and even tho in my last days in jersey when i used to live in piscataway(which was an upper middle class neighborhood) i would still lock my doors....livin\' in newark made just lockin\' your doors natural...you guys will rebound from it....just don\'t go around leavin\' your house doors unlocked...;)
And Jbean my wife does that from time to time as well,..when i go to work at night, sometimes i\'ll notice the doors on the lex will be unlocked, and even tho i\'m in a generally nice slightly upper middle class neigborhood, i still tell her to make sure she locks the cars up....i\'m kinda shocked that she does that because she\'s from Brooklyn!......:p

Wait, so your brother\'s wallet was in his unlocked car? Including his Ipod?
-
Don\'t lock it.
What\'d ya expect?
I can say this and not be considered a jerk. It\'s happened to me and I learned my lesson.
Lock it.
