Ok I do own a DC and I must say it has excellent games. I do accept the fact that PS2 has a better technology than DC. I was thinking about the pros and cons of each console and came up with this ones... (NOTE : Not the usuall ones!!!)
Ok let\'s go...
1) I keep hearing people say that DC will die if 1 or 2 year(s)time is given to PS2... The most common opinion and normal one is that after 1 or 2 years who KNOWS which console will be out \'till then...Maybe DC2? X-Box for sure! Maybe even upgrades for consoles! As I said who KNOWS?
2) A common phrase : "Just give some time the developers to learn how to code on the new PS2 technology!" I don\'t DISAGREE with that... but developers won\'t just spend full-time to PS2! Of course some of them might risk it but not so many! It\'s a huge risk to avoid all other consoles and make a game for one and in the end you lose!
3) Technology...aahhh PS2 does win there. But Nintendo won PSX and we saw who kicked the butt! 700 titles of games (good ones and bad ones) were enough to beat N64. This might happen with PS2 and DC...
4) PS2 WILL for sure make better games... but when? I mean people need games now...Actually, not people but companies! This is a matter of time and I think you can understand this! If SONY looses time now not even DC but GC and X-BOX will become first!
OK this were in some kind unique excuses and facts. I didn\'t include the common ones like price,# of games etc, I really hope the best for PS2 and I must say I am pretty happy with my DC! I hope you get the console fits on you and for **** shake don\'t choose a console because a fanboy or someone tells you "GET THIS TO OWN!". Watch all areas if you get a console! Just like getting a very expensive cloth! What would you look? Quality, Style, Appearance.

you have mentioned some good points there. Its what a machine can do rather than what is COULD do. however with the ps2 i think its different when people see the CAPABILITIES of the ps2 once the hdd comes out then it will rule.

I have a DC and PS2 and Ps2 will rule be next year, I love MSR and shenmue, but the potential and the games that are coming out for PS2 just outclass DC,there is no copontition between the two and it only seems to be DC owners who put other consoles down just (PS2). just like about a year two years ago N64 mags aways had people writing in saying PS1 crap and yet you hardly ever got this console abuse in playstation mags, and look who Won. Its a fact that still poeple in Englan are buying PS1 products twice as much any other console so if this is a fight between sony and sega, sony has won already. and will rock next year,

I used to be a Sega loyalist. I had the genesis, sega CD, 32x, and of course the Saturn. Did I buy a DC.......Hell no!!!!!! The reason for this is that Sega has the attention span of a kindegartner and the loyalty of Sadams Repulican Army. I was truly irate at what sega did with these past systems and I am sure that DC will suffer the same fate. Lets face it PS2 is just out of the gate and already it is truly a marvel and definitely over shadows the DC. Of course there are good games for the DC, hell there are good games for every system but the fact is that when Sega feels the pressure they give up on a system and go back to the drawing board again. Sega has been saying for years that they want out of the console market but the only reason they stay in it is because there isn\'t a system that can run there software......Well my reply to that is: " start packing boys because it time to go." PS2, Game Cube, and X-Box all have more than enough power to run anything your producing. In conclusion Sega should stick to what they do best which is making quality games and leave the console development to those who can.

I wouldn\'t call the PS2 a marvel over the DC yet . Right now the DC has the best games. Also, Sega has went along way to prove they are not going to mess up with this console. Infact, I truly believe they could top the PS2 if it wasn\'t for their bad reputation with past systems (i.e, 32x). But, now everyone took a wait and see approach which could of done them in. Either way, I\'m enjoying my DC.

I HATE TO BREAK IT TO YOU BUT REPUTATION IS EVERYTHING. THERE IS NO DENYING THAT PS2 WILL EXCEED THE DC\'S INSTALLED BASE AND DEVELOPERS WILL SIMPLY BAIL FROM THE DC. WITH FOUR SYSTEM SLATED TO BE OUT ON THE MARKET BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR IT ONLY STANDS TO REASON THAT THE DEVELOPMENTAL STAFFS WON\'T HAVE THE PERSONNEL TO DEVELOP FOR 4 PLATFORMS THEREFORE THE WEAKER SYSTEM IE. Have you ever heard of the CAPS lock key? Its next to the \'a\' key. Far left hand side. Try and use it. I swear, the MODS need to pay more attenion to this section of the forum, as it is being over-ran by people who can\'t (1) use caps lock key (2) spell (3) debate properly.

Well, I\'ll have to disagree with you in some places.
You said game developers don\'t spend full time on PS2?
-You mean all the time they make games?
I don\'t know if I\'m completely right but someone can correct me if I\'m slightly or badly wrong here ;)
Well, in every game-developer there\'s divided sections. So, there\'s "sections" in a big game-developer, and each of these sections consentrate on different gaming platforms.
For example; there\'s Square PS2; it\'s Square, but the section consentrates only to PS2 etc.
Well, you got the point, yes?
Oh and people doesn\'t need games right now. There\'s lots of people who enjoy the launch games, but impression is different thing than enjoying. And then there\'s people who don\'t own console yet. They take no hurry, and buy either PS2 ( when the REALLY IMPRESSIVE games come out ), X-box or Nintendo\'s GC.
Please don\'t take this as a bash, because this isn\'t.

I don\'t feel screwed with my DC at all. In fact it\'s my favorite system to ever come out. I\'ve only had it a little over a year and have 20 games. I only bought 16 games throughout my SNES\' 5 year life span!
Sega has recreated their image and it\'s a damn good one.

I have a DC and PS2 and am very sure your dead right, I love DC and especially Msr and Shenmue but people who think sega can stand up to sony with there current console will be very shocked next year.

sega have ****ed up there. reputation with the (whats it called) oh yeh sega saturn. A lack of advertising was what set segas, fate and that will follow them until they do something really specatular.
Sure its the games that make the console, but sony having so many 3rd parties everyone can expect more from the games and not just mario, and sonic the dmn hedgehog.

Do you honestly thing your small minded derogatory insults bother me? You are not "setting me off". I just think it is amusing you enjoy posting and showing how ignorant you are constantly. While your waiting for decent games, other people are enjoying excellent games on the DC. And by the time the PS2 gets decent games, it will be close to launch for the Xbox and GC . And the Xbox is securing enough games and developers, to make people question the PS2. Never the less, I\'m not sure how you figure I will be missing out on anything. I do own a PS2. So, even if the PS2 is the greatest thing, it doesn\'t effect me, as I already own one. You should also note, you give Sony fanboys a bad name. If a newbie came here and read your posts, they would get the impression that all Sony fanboys had the IQ of around 20 or so. By the way, you should also take more time to read the posts and process them through that little mind of yours. I said "right now" the DC has the best games.
Also, note that I do not expect Sega to out do the PS2. I never said that. I simply said at this current time they have the better system. The DC cannot live past the Xbox / GC / PS2. No one is going to argue that fact (\'cept Altered maybe.;) ). But, I do not expect the PS2 to dominate the market like some blind \'lil fanboys (i.e, GameRaider).

The Sega Saturn done quite well in Japan, but even Sega admits it was "stillborn". The Saturn was home to some of the greater import games. And what is this about just Sonic the Hedgehog? There has been a total of 2 Sonic games on the DC, with a third coming soon. Now, take that and divide it by the many other games such as MSR, Shenmue, Jet Grind Radio, Skies of Arcadia , Phantasy Star Online and not to mention the plethora of Capcom games. Obviously, there is more then Sonic games on the DC. And if that was the logic, the PS would of been doomed. Why? Because it had a total of 5 Crash games (Crash 1- 3, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bash). People like mascots though, so they buy them. Which is one reason the Saturn failed in the US. It was never home to a decent Sonic game. Instead, Sega gave us things like ClockWork Knight and Bug!.
Anyways, to sum it all up. I never said I expected the DC to outdo the PS2. I simply said right now, it has the better games. And yes, you can argue that the PS2 just launched and that is true. But beyond a certain few games (some of which are finding their way to the Xbox) there isn\'t anything exactly compelling on the PS2 horizon.

Do you think that you won\'t find some wonderful games among Dark Cloud,The Bouncer,Onimusha,ZOE,Shadow of Memories,MGS2,Ring of Red,Tekken 4,Ace Combat 4,RE CodeVeronica,Devil May Cry,Maximo,RE4,Wipeou Fusion,The Getaway,Ray Man3,Soul Calibur2,GT3,FFX,FFXI,Red Faction,Perfect Eden,Half Life,Soldier of Fortune,The Lost,Lara Next Generation,Fable,EA\'s sport games,Konami\'s sport games,and other several dozens....

Because you are 100% correct. Todays DC library has more to offer than todays PS2 library. But then... I read a little further...

Ouch. That was pretty brutal. Fact is, there\'s some fantastic sh** coming. Twisted Metal Black, Metal Gear, Wipeout Fusion, Ring of Red (sweet mech title), GT3, Rayman 3, Soul Calibur 2, blah blah blah. See, XBox isn\'t getting all that. And even the titles the XBox does get will be later. I won\'t use the word "fanboy", because a Sega fanboy wouldn\'t give credit to Microsoft (a company that would eat Sega whole and crap it out). Anyway, you may want to clarify your statement there. DC will always have a headstart/advantage with it\'s library, but XBox will have the same disadvantages against PS2\'s library that PS2 has against DC\'s library.

Everybody has the right to their own opinion. I guess I am a sony fanboy, but still I agree that at THIS moment the DC has the advantage over PS2. I know it\'s gonna change, and with the GC and the Xbox coming soon, Sony\'s gonna have to work hard. But then again we really aren\'t too sure about what the Xbox and GC can do yet, so we\'ll just have to wait and see what happens. Personally, I hope that the PS2 will come out on top though, but as I said the prospects are unsure, so we can\'t really judge what\'s gonna happen in this console war.

Why would DC get worse? ALl except for three developers are still making games for it and there are still the best to come. A system can\'t get worse. Maybe DC will start to slow dwn the steady flow of incredible games, but I am grateful as I don\'t have the money to buy all of them. :)
DC will continue to become popular, as will PS2. It is just afact. Now that PS2 is out, DC wont become any less good actually the best games have come out since after the launch and people are buying Dreamcast in droves.

hey, ALL consoles get worse. if u dont think so, look at super nintendo, genesis, n64, and later on even playstation. it happens 2 all consoles, even the 4 that will be in battle by the time 2001 is over with. im not saying DC will get worse soon, but it will get worse. then, if GC slows down, or ps2, or xbox, one of those will b next. who knows, DC might even survive this whole thing and end up on top of it all. maybe even GC. all im saying is, DC will die out, just like every other system will. its a fact. u wanna know wut i noticed? evry1 sez ps2 dont got good games out (altho they do), but i think it\'ll b da same as wut DC did. dc came out with so many of these games only at ps2\'s launch. i think ps2 will start with the better games when GC or xbox launches, or maybe a little b4, just 2 keep up wit DC.
not 2 say dis is tru (so dont get on my case about it), but ps2 will come out wit the bouncer, z.o.e., silent hill 2, half life, mgs2, onimusha, extermination, final fantasy series will continue, and so on. most of these will come out prepared 4 anything the new systems may have 2 offer. ps2 is purposely doing this, as well as not using the system\'s full potential, esp. b-cuz developers arent 2 familiar with it.

Dreamcast will slowly get worse after it\'s normal lifespan of 4 years is up. Gameraider is right, this happens to all consoles. HOWEVER, for the next four years, the Dreamcast\'s library will only improve (sorry - three years, it\'s already been out for one).
