I just got the game yesterday to review, it does look pretty damned awesome. But still a far cry from reality. Haven\'t been able to put the game through it\'s paces yet though. Gonna play some more over the weekend.

I gotta admit the game can get a bit boring,...but that is not the games fault,..it\'s a simulation racer,...so you\'re not gonna get any of that crazy stuff that you see in burnout....what you will get are cars that look and feel like their real life counter-parts and the fact that they finally have the ferrari and most late models added only sweetens the deal,...and there\'s one thing that you can always count on with this series,..and that\'s high production values....all of the turismo games are polished to the edge....even if the cars don\'t have damage...(which is something that i don\'t mind at all)...you know that whenever you get a turismo game, you\'re guaranteed to have a solid simulation racing experience....

Well the "small" additions were enough to keep many more interested.

GT wasnt my cup of tea either but I recognize very well what people enjoyed from it. And it is not just hype.

The "small" additions were sometimes not even additions at all.  Look at GT2 to GT3.  They CUT content out to make it look nicer.  Yes, the physics improve, and yes the graphics are always top notch, but ultimately it feels like a tech demo to a lot of us.  I\'m hoping the online play will add some depth and bring some life into the tired series because I really loved GT1 and 2.

That "lot of us" is an insignificant number compared to the millions that bought the game and liked it. I repeat GT3 wasnt my favorite cup of tea either.

Despite that I find it selfish to over criticize a game simply because we dont like it, bought it for the graphics or [insert any other reason] while ignoring those that love it with a passion even for the "additions" that were made.

GT3 lost content btw because of time and budget constraints. Not simply to make it "look nicer". Needed much more resources to produce than on the PS1.

Bitch bitch bitch. The game looks awesome and the GT series has always been great for car/racing enthusiasts.

Negative opinion of a game based on its previous iterations is not the same as bitching.  The game isn\'t for everyone.  Not all of us have 24 hours to sit down and do one race, and not all of us find racing some of the same tracks we\'ve been racing since 1997 is fun anymore.
Title: Gran Turismo > Reality
Post by: JBean on March 17, 2008, 05:32:07 AM
Not bitching, just not interested.  I\'ve owned this game 3 times already ;)

Looks really good though, I was always amazed with A-spec on ps2.. to this day I can\'t believe how good that game looks.  Polyphony knows their shit, but I they should being this is the only game they make every 5 years or so.

For a good reason considering the huge reasources needed for it though ;)

It needs one dedicated team specialized only on that to be able to produce a game with such massive attention to detail, amount of cars etc every few years.

I doubt it would have been possible to have the same game if PD was spending time on multiple IPs.

I\'ve heard it all now, it\'s "selfish" to criticize a game you don\'t like.

Brilliant. Just fuckin\' brilliant.

And I don\'t care why GT3 lost content compared to the previous. I don\'t need excuses. The fact remains it did lose content and in that respect, it is a lesser sequel. Yes, even with the pretty graphics.

As for GT4, it looks to be more of the same.. A fresh coat of paint and nothing else.

There\'s a review by a F1 driver who reviewed the GT5:Prologue. He said it\'s the most accurate console game he\'s ever tried. Of course, he turned off all the torque assist, brake assist....pretty much all the doodads that make GT a semi-simulator.

Sure the game might be boring for those who just want all out arcade fun. But GT5 is for those who appreciate the nuances of different cars and the tracks they\'re on. One could enjoy the game by not racing any of the AI at all and just use the tracks for applying in real life. I know Nurburgring is one I would like to test out one day - in real life. Guess what I\'ll be using for practice while I\'m not in Germany?

:D

yada yada.

Actually the point is that it doesnt matter what you think, whether you personally hate the game, call it boring or whatever as long as the game has everything a car simulation fan wants and the game thrives with quality for what is trying to be.

If the game doesnt satisfy your personal tastes it doesnt make it bad. The only bad thing is someone who has ego problems and things that his opinion/taste is the ultimate opinion and anyone who things otherwise is wrong.

Oh and relax its a game. If someone doesnt follow your opinion its OK.

How can a car simulation offer everything a fan wants, when it doesn\'t have variable weather and car damage?

Right...

Ask the fans. The fact that it managed to capture them even with the lack of those shows how well done everything else was. And since you admit that it is just you then why do you suddenly take position and speak on behalf of those fans by bringing those arguments about the lack of "variable weather conditions" and "car damage"?

I doubt Raz thought I was replying to him. Yes I was talking to Phill. I accidentally annoyed Raz since due to his assumption and lack of reading comprehension he thought I said that nobody is allowed to criticize a game when he doesnt like it.

The only thing I tried to pass was that we (including me) cant generalize our negative perception or a not so great experience about a game\'s content/quality, based on our personal tastes. If someone doesnt like a game because of various personal reasons that doesnt make a game bad. This was not directed to Raz in any form.

Of course that got him although it was not my intention, because he fell into that category as he proved so many other times before. Even if he doesnt admit it in this thread. So he attacked my post.

I never once attacked Uni\'s post. I simply said the gameplay put me to sleep and then others that didn\'t care for the game also posted.

Not enough to ruin the experience? Just ignored in every installment, right? The series, beyond graphics has not really progressed at all. If this was any other game, people would be pissed off, but because it\'s a gorgeous racing game, everyone forgives the obvious. The fact that every new one, is simply the previous with a fresh coat of paint.
