How many have a ps3 hooked up to a 720p tv? How many have one connected to a 1080p?
Of those, how many have seen a ps3 on both? Ive heard there isn\'t much difference between the two except when watching a blu-ray movie.
Can anyone school me on this? I can be content with 720p, especially at the price I can get a nice 42" for. Im trying to justify spending several hundred dollars more for a 1080p version.
-
just get the 1080P set
-
ya..you have been ohhhhhhhhh soooooo helpful. If it were that easy, I would not post asking these questions.
I\'ve got many things I wanna spend money on, so its rather important to try and prioritize. :)
The 1080p is the easy answer as that is what I was lookin at to begin with. I start to see great prices in the 720p range, I start to question if I would really notice unless watching a blu-ray flick. (which btw, is at the bottom of the list)
-
how big of a tv are u planning to get? i thought I heard if it was any smaller than 50", you dont see a difference in 1080p or 1080i (most of the cheaper tv\'s that ur probably seeing are 1080i..maybe not though)
i\'ve personally never seen bluray on my 1080i, and i\'ve seen 1080p at best buy and it looked good, but i had nothing to compare it to. but if theres any way to get to best buy and see if they have a 1080i set up (theyll definitly have 1080p) and see for yourself.
-
save some hundred bucks and get the 720p for the 42" that you are planning on getting.
Unless you are sitting like 5 feet or closer to the tv, you won\'t notice any difference compare to 1080p.
If the screen is 50" or bigger, then you might notice it. Depending on how far away you sit from the screen.

Search for kdl46xbr. That\'s my TV. You\'ll love it. :)

I sit at about 7-8 foot from my 46\'\' TV. There is a big difference when between a 720p feed and a 1080p feed.
-
do not listen to the "omg, you have to sit 4 inches away to see a difference!!11" nonsense. you will have to decide for yourself if you see a difference, not some chart on the internet.
this is an easy debate.
get the 1080P or you will likely regret it down the road.
what\'s a few more hundred dollars when you\'re already splurging.
most retailers have 12+ months interest free anyways.
for gaming, 1080P is definitely a noticeable improvement over 720P.
as any PC gamer will tell you, higher resolutions assist in hiding jaggies.
-
^ Yeah, but how many (good) 1080P @ 60 f/p sec games will there be ?
In this gen..not too many i\'d guess.
-
ya..most games now are 720p native
-
planning for the future is bad?
upscaled 720P to 1080P > 720P
-

Most certainly.
Do not listen to actual facts about distance and relation to the viewing. It\'d be silly to listen to facts.
As with that said.
Just get the 1080p - that\'s what I have.
-
you\'re right, his eyes and mental judgment will follow a chart that was made by some other dude with a different set of eyes and mental judgment.
are you one of the commonfolk that cannot see the difference between 60hz and 85hz on a monitor? perhaps there\'s a chart for this.
-
I ve seen and played some games on a large 1080p screen and the difference was awesome compared to the 720p displays. The 720p displays were smaller in size but I was standing just some a few centimeters away from them in stores.
-
planning for the future is bad?
upscaled 720P to 1080P > 720P
If the source resolution is the same as the tv\'s native resolution. That\'s the optimal picture quality you can get.
Upscaling won\'t look as perfect as native resolution. But if in the future he watches a lot of 1080p sources like from blu ray movies, and some video games in 1080p, then 1080p display should make his sources look it best.

it\'s like buying a portable CD-player when there are MP3 player out there. Why would you want to buy something that is already outdated ?
most HD Brodcast are in 1080i and will look better on a 1080p then 720p. All BR movie are 1080p.. comming games will all be 1080p.
IMO, pay the price and you won\'t regret it down the road
-
I\'m sure Luckee wouldn\'t think twice about spending an extra couple hundred to get 3 extra horsepower.
-
Cd player might be outdated but they are better than mp3 player in the area is that CD sound is uncompressed while mp3 is lossy compressed.
CDs are still uses by many, and if they don\'t have a portable cd player, buying one right now isn\'t a bad idea if they want to use it to listen directly from the disc instead from IPOD that requires a computer and a bit of know-how to use it to transfer to CD...sure it\'s simple to many of us. But many older generation people would be clueless on what these products are.
beside, some people are old-fashion that they uses CD, and even my mom only listen to the radio. She told me she used to listen to vinyl records back in the days. But since the introduction of audio cassettes and CD player. She isn\'t familiar with it and aren\'t interested in it. She does know how to use audio cassette tape, but rarely though. It\'s not until recently about a week ago is when I showed her how to use a CD in a CD player it\'s when she\'s started to liking it.

well, some broadcasts are 720p though and will be for many years. Like FOX, ABC, UPN are some that are 720p.
The price different between a 720p and 1080p set of the same size is only a few hundred bucks. So, that is a better buy compare to few years back where the difference are over a $1,000 to $4,000+.

Hey heres a novel idea, go to a store with both TV\'s and decide with your own eyes if its worth that extra 500 bucks. Listening to a bunch of tools argue about shit they really don\'t know much about online isn\'t very smart.

I understand you must be a stick in the mud and find something to argue about every two seconds. But please, quit trying to argue common sense and facts. The whole friggin\' industry knows this stuff, but you have to go against the grain, just because you\'re naturally a dumb asshole.
-
Never mind science and facts
-
claiming that everyone sees the same way because some chart or "friggin industry" claims it so is not "fact" or "common sense".
it\'s speculation.
inserting "the average person" in every statement you make would be more accurate.
ready for another display of immaturity and frustration, LIC?
i enjoyed it the last time.

Well smart guy...most stores (if any) do not have a ps3 running 720p and 1080p side by side.(which was criteria BTW)
Listening to a tool spout off that hasn\'t read the original post or entire thread isn\'t very smart.
Take your cheap shots elsewhere.
-
Speculation? Right. You know how there\'s those people out there that can see through walls, they really buck the trend...
This same thought process probably has you comparing 1080p blu ray to 720p cable.
PS luckee, I don\'t know what stores you\'re going to but I can name four in my area that have that setup. Shitty market I guess

You\'re the one asking the OPINION of a few people online who for all you know are full of shit to determine whether or not you should sink an extra 400 dollars. You deserve all the cheap shots I can throw.
-
i guess we are bored and has nothing much to do, and this forums is pretty much vacant, so having some conversation here and there to past time isn\'t a bad idea. Even if the questions doesn\'t seem that hard to answer.

Not frustrated, just amazed how someone can be so hard headed they ignore all facts and science behind something.
Do whatever you have to do to support your agenda, even if everyone that reads it knows you\'re a bumbling idiot.
-
when did everyone\'s eyes and mental perception become "facts and science", especially on teh internets?
as long as i can pull your strings for my agenda, LIC :)
-
I have a PS3 hooked to my 1080p set, and I can tell the difference between it and a 720p one. I really would recommend going with the 1080p. If it\'s close whether you wanna go that way now, then it\'ll start leaning more and more in the direction of the 1080p set as the years go on and there are more and more things you see a noticeable difference on.
You might be happy with saving a couple hundred dollars now, but you\'ll be buying something you might regret down the road.
-

I understand you may be stupid, but when a whole industry and numerous articles and charts are released explaining viewing distance.
For the sake of your argument - maybe you\'re not see\'ing the actual benefit. You\'re just seeing a placebo effect.
See how that works? You can sit here and say all day that those charts mean less than your own eyes , but in fact, they don\'t.
Keep telling yourself you know what you\'re talking about. That\'s fine, it\'s obvious to most people you don\'t have the foggiest clue.
-
Maybe he\'ll get it this time.

Yup..I am asking for an opinion. If you think I am taking opinions here as gospel then apparently you dont pay attention to my posts in here..lol
Extra $400? Its more like an extra $1000.
Dont get pissy b/c I put you in your place just b/c you were getting shitty with someone else.
Hell I regret posting anything now as several ppl cant seem to leave personal differences out of the thread.
-
I cant believe you guys are fighting about hi-def resolutions....
Dorks
Luckee... If you cant a fford the 1080, just get the 720 but be prepared to get another new tv in a few years or so.
fford is a new word i just made up.

Extra $1000? Maybe if you\'re going from the 720p model to the most top end 1080p model. In that case there\'s a lot more to compare than just resolution.
As for you putting someone in their place, lol. Since you regret posting something take your research over to somewhere like cnet
-
Can\'t we all just get along?....:(......and you white folk just are not sayin\' what luckee wants to hear...yo, luckee just let me know what set you really want, and i\'ll meet you at your crib later...i got the ski-masks ready...:fro:

Actually any legitimate store will let you plug whatever you want into multiple screens to see what you like.
And by Legitimate store, I\'m talking more of the Sound Advice/Tweeter and the more higher end stores as opposed to Best Buy. Although Best Buy now has the Magnolia sections which has some pretty nice stuff.
-
I didn\'t even read the replies. I knew once LIC and mm were in teh same thread, it would end up being a pissing contest.
In the end, clips still has the biggest penis.
-
LIC is still pissed he failed in life.
i forgive him.
-
If you can afford the 1080, go for it. I just purchased a new 720 about a month ago, and although I\'ve seen the difference, (yes, on the PS3), I\'m happy with my new TV. 1080i looks more vibrant and a little sharper. I would have spent the extra cash on the higher res if I had the money.

What\'s your excuse?
Mommy and daddy didn\'t love you?
Or maybe your uncle touched you on your naughty spot?
I forgive ya\'.
