First off congrats to Obama for winning the nomination,...secondly i don\'t like the fact how people are kind of forcing Obama to pick hillary to be on the ticket with him....i agreed with this in the beginning,...but she kicked so much dirt on him, during the campaign that i wouldn\'t even want her on the team...for the most part Obama always praised her, even when she was attacking him,...he only fired back at her when he was forced to.
In his victory speech he gave even more praise to her,..a good 2 - 3 minute dedication,..her speech included only a congradulations and that he inspired folk, *20 seconds*...then the rest of her speech was as if she was still running,....i still like the clintons, but the way they\'ve been talking about Obama..*even Bill have had some words to say as recently as this week*....just makes me believe that she\'s not the right vp for him,....it would send the wrong signal anyway since his theme is all about change.
I was open to this thing in the beginning,..Obama/Clinton is really an unstoppable force, but to me at this point it\'s only right for all the wrong reasons and the way the media is spinning this is as if Obama can\'t win without hillary\'s voters,....which is bulls**t to me...i feel clinton\'s folks should rally behind him just as obama\'s folks would...again i was big on the Obama/Clinton ticket up until Clinton started kickin\' up so much dirt,...and i can\'t help that i feel that both Bill and Hillary would probably try to run things behind the scenes if hillary becomes the vp. He just needs to find somebody that shares his vision and shouldn\'t be pressured to pick Hillary...

I agree with President Carter\'s statement that it would be a big mistake for Obama to select Hillary Clinton as a running mate.
For me, the dream ticket would be Obama teaming with John Edwards, Wesley Clark, or Jim Webb. In fact, I was just daydreaming about how awesome it would be to see Webb as VP, when I came across this article:
http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080616/moser (http://www.thenation.com/doc/20080616/moser)
Obama\'s strangest option is also his strongest. To many progressives, ex-Republican Jim Webb sounds like another centrist compromise--Lieberman in combat boots. After all, he\'s got that history as a Reagan-era Defense official and Navy Secretary in the 1980s. He\'s a proud Vietnam veteran. He adores firearms. He\'s criticized affirmative action for helping blacks but leaving out poor whites. He wrote a paleolithic op-ed against women in combat in 1979 and later called the Navy investigations of the Tailhook sexual assault scandal a "witch hunt." He\'s railed fiercely through the years at the "cultural Marxists" and \'60s liberals who, he felt, demonized his fellow soldiers in Vietnam and blamed his fellow working-class whites for Jim Crow.
It\'s understandable that the heavy VP chatter about Webb has some progressives climbing the walls, accusing his male supporters of hopeless "man crushes" and declaring, as G Spot blogger Kathy G. did recently, "Ixnay on the Ebbway." But the Webb who became the Democrats\' boldest antiwar champion of 2006, when he unseated popular senator George Allen, bears little resemblance to the ugly composite portrait that can be assembled by quoting his old apostasies (all now heavily qualified or recanted). Webb is, in many respects, the antithesis of Lieberman or Bentsen--"centrists" chosen not so much to appeal to independents as to placate Wall Street. While most reporters persist in describing him as a conservative, Webb has rapidly emerged as one of the Democrats\' strongest voices from the left on the two great issues of the day: Iraq and economic fairness. He spent most of his 2006 campaign railing against the treachery of corporate America and trickle-down economics. Even more boldly than Obama, Webb spoke out against invading Iraq--in fact, he began arguing against it in the late 1980s, when the neocons were first beating those drums. In the Senate--as a freshman--he has been the single most clever and relentless Democrat in challenging Bush\'s Iraq policy, most recently steering through the new GI Bill. While his voting record is short, it\'s thus far prochoice, prolabor and pro-environment. For what it\'s worth, Webb got an A in 2007 from the progressive Drum Major Institute; perfect scores from NARAL, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO; a 90 from the Children\'s Defense Fund; and an 85 from Americans for Democratic Action.
Virginia\'s thirteen electoral votes are already up for grabs, particularly with beloved former Governor Mark Warner running for the Senate and (along with Obama) driving up the Democratic vote in November. But one of the most powerful arguments for Webb is less pragmatic than symbolic: instead of just saying he honors the military and respects the white working class, Obama, by tapping Webb, would show it. Choosing Webb would also show Obama\'s willingness to have unorthodox and passionate thinkers around him. Webb would be the loudest and stubbornest "get out of Iraq" voice to have the President\'s ear. He would push Obama in a progressive direction on corporate re-regulation and income redistribution. And he would goad the President to think in fresh ways about old problems like the "war on drugs." Webb calls for ending the drug war in his new book, A Time to Fight, in which he furiously denounces the race-based injustice of US drug laws and the American incarceration industry. In it he imagines the lives led by an African-American youngster selling drugs and the white suburban teenager who buys them from him to sell at his school. "By the time the white kid reaches fifty years of age," Webb writes, "he may well be a judge. By the time the black kid reaches fifty, he will likely be permanently unemployable, will be ineligible for many government assistance programs, and will not even be able to vote."
Of all the various forms of inspiration Obama\'s campaign has delivered, few have been more welcome than his promise to erase the red-blue divide. Obama has worked out most of the formula for a long-term national progressive majority: he\'s revived the hopes of black voters long overlooked by the party, honed a promising message for Latino workers and preached a fresh political gospel to younger voters of all races--people for whom Republicanism will forever be associated with Bush, Iraq, the religious right and subprime America. But for the new majority to emerge, the Democrats must also tap into the antiwar, populist energy that has swelled up among working-class and middle-class whites in formerly Republican territory. Webb would bring some much-needed fire and brimstone on the economic populist issues that captured red-state Senate seats for insurgent Democrats in 2006--not just in Virginia but in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Montana, Missouri and Minnesota.
After eight years of Bush and thirty years of middle-class decline, it won\'t take crippling compromises (like an antichoice, pro-war or pro-Wall Street Vice President) to make sufficient gains among these folks. But it will take a candidate on the national ticket who understands them, respects them and knows how to move them. Obama can pick between several distinguished and helpful partners for the Democratic ticket. But he cannot choose anyone who will speak to Western, Southern and Industrial Belt voters with more gut-level force, or do more to awaken these folks to the new progressive potential of their country, than Jim Webb.

Doesn\'t the VP really not do a whole lot?
I wouldn\'t like to see Hilary as the VP. But its funny how much Obama actually admired her. Together, they have a huge force. However, I was reading in the Associated Press last night that Clinton wants all her supporters to support Obama (which I felt was gonna happen anyway. Democrats are pretty hardcore this time around) and Bill may even be a big support on Obama\'s campaign. Anyway, this should be an interesting election. I\'m pretty confident Obama is gonna win this.
I was actually talking to older members of my family a week or so ago and they were talking about Obama and saying he was "unamerican" and a "nigger" and how Americans won\'t let a "nigger in office". Made me sick. I then began to explain that Obama is going to win and in this election, its going to be the younger generation (I would say between the ages of 18-30, maybe 18-40 or even 18-people who aren\'t ignorant. just my speculation) taht is going to decide this election. My dad is a big time McCain supporter and he even is saying that if Obama won the primary, he is most likely going to win because of the younger generations. Makes sense to me. I see on my campus and talking to my friends that most people are fed up with the government the way it is. My ex\'s mother is a big time republican. She hates the way the country is and is supporting Obama. It seems like a high percentage of this country seems to be like that. If anyone remembers, I was a big time republican a couple years ago. Now I consider myself an independent but I\'m not voting for a republican this time. Even if Hilary won, as much as I hate her, I still saw myself voting for her. Anyway, I\'m getting off my soapbox for now :)
-
I agree with you about the younger generation deciding this....alot of folks are sayin\' that Obama inspired alot of young folks to come out and vote,...which is always a good thing,...i think once those old racist farts that are in washington finally die off or retire, we\'ll start to see a younger congress that is more tolerant of race relations,....there will always be those that will not vote for him because he\'s black tho..and that\'s a shame..
I\'ve already told the story of how a hillary supporter stated that if hillary didn\'t win the nomination that she would vote for McCain?....to me that is clearly racist...why?...Obama\'s theme and McCains theme are so extraordinarily different that her only reason would have to be because he\'s black,....Obama\'s plans are not much different from hillary\'s yet she would rather do the exact opposite and vote for McCain....again it\'s funny how black folk have never stated that they wouldn\'t vote for that white candidate simply because he was white...s**t is ridiculous...
I\'m also upset in the way the media is bringing up this assasination scenario,...i mean it\'s always a possibility, but why even bring that up in the first place?..because there are others out there that would assasinate him because of his color?...again america is on the verge of making history, and yet these racial questions and theories are still proving that america has a long way to go with this racial s**t....i swear the media likes to keep the racial thing goin\'.
-
Cheney has been a busy man. He pretty much does all his work in secret, but there was a while there when people talked about him like he was Bush\'s puppeteer.
I don\'t know who Obama will pick as VP. I think it\'d be weird if he picked Hillary, but I guess we\'ll see what he comes up with. Policy-wise, they\'re pretty much on the same page, so that\'d be a big plus.
-

I agree. I think its absolutely asinine to bring up the color of his skin in this election and the fact he could be assassinated. It is a possibility that he will be assassinated because of the color of his skin but I figure if Bush didn\'t get assassinated, I think Obama is in the clear :) Of all the presidents in our history, I thought Bush for sure would have at least been shot at.
Everyone is just trying to find any stupid excuse to discredit the other candidate. I think its stupid they keep bringing up McCains age.
-
Well to me i do think that age is a factor,..and to me that\'s just for any candidate..... i don\'t think anybody wants an old looking president....I do think McCain will will probably pick Romney or somebody of his stature to counter Obama\'s youth...of course there are other factors that go into picking a vp as well,...what i\'m basically saying is that i\'m sure that McCain isn\'t going to pick an older looking vp candidate...
-
i don\'t think anybody wants an old looking president
Reagan?

Obama = empty suit. Oh wait he wasn\'t like that when I knew him...

How can you say that he will be the worst president ever? He hasn\'t even been in office?
-
I dont know. So far Obama\'s participation in the elections creates a new hope for the US and outside the US as well.
He is more inspirational than others and he is willing for real changes in foreign policy for the better too. This is the first time that a US presidential candidate has been viewed in such a manner from other countries IMO. And I suspect in the US.
The question is, will they let him act as we hope?
I suspect very bad consequences for him if he goes against some interests

Jimmy Carter idiot. Obama is going to ruin the economy. The Wall Street Journal dissects Obamanomics:
Obama endorses a 45 percent minimum-wage increase, from $6.55 to $9.50. Why not simply triple it, to $19.65? Employers would love that.
Obama wants a "market oversight commission" to monitor and reduce risks to the finance industry. The FDIC, Federal Reserve, SEC, and Treasury already attempt this, whether or not they should.
While Obama favors modest middle-class tax cuts, he promises widespread tax hikes. For top filers, taxes on capital gains would rise from 15 to 28 percent, dividends from 15 to 39.6 percent, and personal incomes from 35 to 39.6 percent. Meanwhile, the Death Tax would zoom in 2011 from 0 to 55 percent. "And if you live in a high income-tax state like New York, New Jersey, or California," Fund adds, "your highest marginal tax rate could go to as high as 60 percent."
Obama would let President Bush\'s tax cuts lapse. The Heritage Foundation estimates that this would cost taxpayers $113 billion in 2011 and $133 billion in 2012 alone.
Capital Gains tax 28 percent? Death tax goes to 55 percent?!?!?!?! This guy is a socialist - and a shitty one at that. Dreary times ahead - then again I don\'t expect most of you to know what this will mean to you or the country.
For 2007, the National Journal ranked him the Senate\'s No. 1 liberal with a score of 95.5 percent. This put Obama to the left of Senator Bernie Sanders (Independent-Socialist – Vermont) who rated a marginally more conservative 93.7.
On the bright side, he will fuck up this country so much he will be a 1 term President - aka Jimmy Carter.

Unicron, America doesn\'t give a FUCK what you or anyone else in other countries think.
After all we don\'t care what peon you put in power.

If you agree with this approach then I guess you are living in a delusional world where you believe you are the center of the world and that your ass is not subject of international affairs. Thank God there are Americans that care and have a broader view of the world

Why doesn\'t this surprise me? Anti nationalist as you like call yourself. Guess what... most of America can\'t even point to where your shit hole is on a map, let alone care about it.

Things can\'t get much worse than they are now...oh wait..it just did there was a 5.5% increase in unemployment for the month of may... that\'s the biggest hike in unemployment since 1986....I don\'t like higher taxes,..but you are a truly a fool if you think that he could fix the economy without raising something,....thank bush & co for the reason the economy is in the shape it\'s in, in the first place,....we\'re spending 12 million dollars a month in iraq, when people are losin their jobs/homes and can\'t afford healthcare,...and when a decent bill does come in front of him for the american people, it has to go thru all of that redtape bulls**t from him,....if the bill has no money for the war he threatens to veto it.
As much money as the u.s. has spent iraq,..they could\'ve solved the housing crisis ten times over and used that money right here....Obama is at least right on that point,..s**t is backwards in washington....instead of you complaining about him raising taxes...*which is something that he has to do and is incredibly small compared to the billions spent in iraq already*...you should look at how much we\'re spending on a war that\'s claiming american lives and how we\'re not benefiting from any of it.

Housing crisis? It is not the governments responsibility to pay for people\'s mistakes. Those people took out ARMS instead of fixed rate mortgages - I am sorry, but I feel no pity for them and I should not have to pay for their stupidity. No one is paying my fixed rate mortgage except me.
A decent bill? Do you mean one filled with so much pork that he has no choice but to veto it?
Oh and get your fucking facts straight - Unemployment rose to 5.5 percent it didn\'t jump 5.5 percent.
-
thank bush & co for the reason the economy is in the shape it\'s in, in the first place,....
You really have no idea how little a President affects the US economy.
-
Giga is right.
American\'s don\'t give a fuck what some third world country thinks about our President.
There is a reason America is a super power and your country is a third world. Just like there is a reason no one really knows or care who is running your country. Your country, in the big view, simply does not matter. Just like, your opinion on our elections, really doesn\'t matter.

people are definitly stupid with money and buying more than what they earn, but the reason is partly the governments fault too for allowing the banks to give out all those bullshit loans. but that was back when clinton was in office i think.

Correction. I am a lover of knowledge and a carer of global humanity, not a blind nationalist. There are Americans that make your country proud by knowing and caring though.
And I agree 100% that most America may be ignorant that the US is constantly involved in international affairs, but those that move the strings know more than just where each shit hole is.
The world cares almost as much as you do about who\'s going to be your next president.

I d agree with that especially if we consider that this is an election period, and there are efforts to influence voting decision.
Also if what Gigashadow said is any indication, there are lots of interests affected from the wealthiest, who are profit maximizers, control a large portion of the economy, and influence expectations and information. That alone makes me consider the information of an article but still maintain some suspicion

Of course i expect people to take full responsibility for taking on those loans...but those type of shady loans went down under his watch....and the banks knew what they were doing,...why is it bush went out of his way to bail out that huge bank on wall st?....but it\'s wrong to bail out those that were almost tricked into buying those homes?...i know it\'s impossible to do that, but using just simple logic, if you could spend billions in iraq and save a huge bank why not help those that are suffering with those shady loans?...and what world are you living in?..you\'re acting like the economy is in great shape,..and Obama is going to make it worse?....keep dreaming...
You really have no idea how little a President affects the US economy.
I know there are other factors, but you can\'t tell me that with the u.s. spending 12 million a month for this war isn\'t impacting our economy,... it is...any time have to borrow money from china to fund it,..the u.s. is in seriously bad shape...so i guess according to you(giga) the u.s. can sustain spending 12 million until forever or until the iraqi\'s get their s**t together?....please there are plenty of factors of why the u.s. is struggling,..and the war is a huge part of it...

You are not looking at the big picture. The price of oil is a big reason our economy is hurting now. It isn\'t as bad as you and others would like to portray, but it isn\'t the healthiest either. Unfortunately, no one has a solid solution to get us off of foreign oil. We have oil here, but the tree huggers won\'t let us get it. That Leiberman environmental bill was shit! If that bill would have gone through we would be paying 6 or 7 dollars a gallon for gas because it would have increased the tax on fuel. This is why democrats suck. They want to tax people to death and pump that money into worthless government programs that benefit no one. The Republicans have sort of fallen into this trap and that is why the so many Republicans are fed up with Bush and Congress. This used to be the big difference between the parties.
If you look at Obama\'s plan to tax the hell out of capital gains and other market related stuff, the stock market is going to crash and the economy will follow making this current economy look fantastic. Even Hillary was against his huge tax increases because she knows what will happen.
Sure the banks knew about ARM\'s, but why is it the governments responsibility to protect people from their own stupidity? If Bear Sterns went under, a lot of the other major financial institutions would follow and then everyone would be fucked. The problem that you and some others have clips is your lack of knowledge and vision for the big picture when it comes to the economy. I am no economist, but I do know the basics and Obama\'s current policies will be terrible for our economy, yes it can get worse. Much worse.
This is where I have a HUGE problem with Obama. His economic policies mean more big government, more taxes and more spending on worthless shit.

Has Obama provided any explanation on the rationale behind the tax plans?
I am curious to know as to understand better what is going on.

What is so surprising? That I know politics? That I went to college and got my degree in Political Science? I also said I was not an expert in economics, but I do know a bad policy when I see one. I also work for a quasi government agency and I do see money getting wasted on a regular basis. The bigger the government - the bigger the abyss that the money falls into.
By your reasoning, any future discussion involving anything related to MOPAR, we should disregard your posts because this is a gaming forum?
-
I love how some guy on a gaming forum knows all about government economics...
This is some of the worst logic ever.
With that said - maybe we should delete all threads that doesn\'t talk about games? Honestly, it isn\'t like everyone here does nothing but game. Hell, there is almost no actual live threads about gaming. Everyone on this forum is grown and has an education and other interests. I guess from now on, when you talk about cars and racing or what ever, we should just assume you don\'t know what you are talking about because it\'s a "gaming forum".

Bill Gates can afford spending 12 mil a month in Iraq forever.
If money wasn\'t going to run the war (which you know funnels countless industries in the process) then what do you think the money could be used for? Give everyone a hundred dollar check a month? Invest in uncertain stocks? None of these can solve immediate or long term problem. All a President can do is regulate trade, effect enterprises, raise/lower taxes, regulations...tariffs...all of which have been nearly identical for the past 20 years.
The war is not a huge part of it. We were going to get to oil with China and India anyway.
-
clips, are you sure the budget is 12 million? I\'m no expert but it seems a bit small to fund a war every month. You have salaries to the soldiers to pay, bullets to pay for, gas to pay for, bombs to buy, body armor to issue. I expected it to be atleast 200+ million. But hey, what do I know.
-
I thought it was a typo the first time he said it.
But he seems to really think that 12 mil a month is ruining the economy.
And I don\'t know the exact number but I\'m sure it has to be close to 10 billion a month.

On the other hand citizens demand more to be spend on the educational system and health care. I ve read that many schools are funded by private corporations and these may prohibit any kind of information that may harm their product. Not the best thing to do if you want quality education.
Considering the crazy amounts spend on Iraq at the cost of US citizens it shows how much some individuals may be gaining from this war.

This topic is not about the cost of war or the effects of war or opinions from people who don\'t matter. Stay on topic.

Government spending is related to taxation, income allocation, expansionary or contractionary fiscal policies and government debt
It is also related to inflation and GDP.
Do not judge if you do not know about specific matters
The cost of war subject did not start by me
Please stay on topic

It\'s over Unicron, LIC settled it with the number and the discussion has ended. No one cares what you have to say on the subject anyway. You\'re opinion on the US economy holds no value.
Try and move on with your life if you can.

Btw It has just occurred to me that Obama\'s taxation policy may be a result of the Bush\'s administration\'s mistakes.
The simultaneous tax cuts and the large government spending done by the current government doesnt make sense,( unless we see it as an effort to boost GDP since currently the US economy has been hindered by the sub-prime market crunch). This though creates bigger holes in deficits and government debt. And it passes it to the next government to deal with it.
Obama may be targeting to decrease the gap through taxation because the government spends too much with small sources of revenue. Perhaps he is too vigorous perhaps not. But it looks like he tries to shift the burden towards the profit mongers and the wealthier classes in order not to affect too much the consumption of the middle classes.
As for the Bush\'s administration tax cuts and refunds, it probably served two purposes and is a phenomenon studied by political economics. 1) To gain mind share for the republican party 2) in case of losing in the next election, add difficulties for the next government and force it to rely on policies that are not viewed well by the public.

See?...now i can respect this,..instead of you talkin\' like a moonbat,..;)..you gave clear reasons why you feel the way you do towards Obama...that said tho,...from what i understand in listening to him,..and it\'s true that i don\'t fully understand that capital gains stuff,..but from what he stated was just that he was going to make sure that those that are wealthy or well off will end up paying higher taxes since they can take the hit and wouldn\'t be bothered by it...while still keeping tax cuts for the middleclass...
I understand that oil is a huge factor as well and i\'m assuming that some price manipulation is at hand,...these people in the oil business are acting like china, india and other third world countries are buliding a mini-city a day, and that is clearly not the case...another thing is that some nut in israel talks about attacking iran and that makes the oil price go from 130.00 a barrel to 138.00 a barrel?...yes iran is the 2nd largest supplier of oil, but still...just because somebody says something to me is just some bulls**t way to jack the price up...
I do know that with the gov\'t cutting the interest rate in order to help 1st time buyers buy new homes have also crippled the dollar,..and with the u.s. cutting it\'s rates,..as crazy as it sounds it\'s actually better for the u.s. to have an overall high interest rate, because of foreign investors and wealthy investors,..from what i understand these investors have pulled their money from the u.s. because of the low interest return and have invested in other countries where they get higher revenue for the money,...so with the u.s. trying to solve the housing problem with these record low rates, it\'s also crippled the dollar,..so for the time-being it\'s almost like a lose-lose situation.
And until the economy bounces back, again i feel that whoever is the next prez has to raise taxes somewhere,..i mean i\'m no economist either, but i at least know that.

Want my opinion?
No matter who we elect, we\'re screwed.
And this whole Iraq debacle will haunt us for decades.
Thanks!

Raising taxes does not help the economy.
-
Raising taxes does not help the economy.
Raising taxes may serve two things.
-Decrease the rate of inflation
-Cover government debt for future spending
Depending on the propensity to consume taxes affect differently the growth of the economy. If you tax people that have a bigger tendency to save money, the immediate effect is less eminent

Obama is like Robin Hood. Only not gay.
And black. I mean, Obama is black and all.

Why are half breeds almost always classified as just black?
-
Do we even have to ask that? Other than Tiger Woods I don\'t know who that is partially black, would not call themselves black.
-
Why are half breeds almost always classified as just black?
I was thinking to say it but decided to hold back
-
Why are half breeds almost always classified as just black?
Because every mix I know classifies themselves as black?
-
Why are half breeds almost always classified as just black?
How dare you speak of his name...YOU FILTHY HALF BLOOD!
-
Why are half breeds almost always classified as just black?
Cause blacks have the dominating gene...anytime a black and white person have a baby you can tell right from the jump he\'s mixed,...thus black being the domniating factor....*white folks don\'t like to claim mixed kids as being white anyway*...;)....michael jackson\'s kids don\'t count tho,...his genes are rejects...dayum...his kids look like straight up white kids,..they don\'t look mixed at all...
-
Cause the black gene steals everything from the white gene.
