Title: The Signal
Post by: mm on June 13, 2008, 04:10:11 PM
anyone see this movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0780607/) (yes, not a "film" if you remember this argument)?
watched it on blu-ray earlier and i\'m kinda hung on it. sure, the acting was attrocious, plot predictable, and the ending abrupt.
not exactly frightening, or even scary for a horror film, but quite interesting.

If theres two things I\'m all about its horror movies and blu-ray.
I\'m all over that.
Thats sounds really similar to this stephen king novel thats being made into a movie right now. I think it\'s called "cell".
Yeah I just looked it up.... Eli Roth is directing. At least it isn\'t Uwe Boll.

Wasn\'t a fan of it. To each his own.

Have not seen it. Definatley will have to give it a rent next time i\'m out. With all the insane thunderstorms we\'ve been having a nightly. A horror movie for the girlfriend and I seems quite appropriate.

heh, i\'m finicky when it comes to horror films. especially when it comes to low budget titles like this one.
reminded me of "shaun of the dead", just with psychos instead of zombies and less funny.

overall, have to go with Francis Ford Coppola\'s \'The Godfather\'.
Runner-up is Alfred Hitchcock\'s \'Rear Window\' although he was originally British but had dual citizenship.
it certainly alters a bit if we\'re talking about different genre\'s such as comedies or such.

Rear Window I do indeed think is fantastic. That film can hold my interest just as well now as it did when I first saw it when I was 13 or so.
The Godfather I think is great but I just only very recently saw it. I think so many years of hearing "this is the greatest film in the history of cinema" bugged me.
Not that you or anyone else asked but i\'m gonna tell you anyways! My personal favourite is 2001: A Space Odyssey. I think the death of Hal is one of the best murder scenes on film. I know some people think 2001 is a big snore fest but to me its excellent.

Fuck, I hate you.
I would almost say \'The Godfather\', but you know, I think my all time favorite would have to be \'Taxi Driver\'. I can\'t get enough of that film.
And I don\'t bash everything. For example, I loved Iron Man. I love Shaun of the Dead. I love Rachet and Clank. It\'s just more fun to complain and watch everyone complain that I\'m complaining..You know, that never ending circle. It amuses me to a great degree.

Taxi Driver is one of those movies i\'ve heard about from birth and have never actually watched yet. Same was with the case of The Godfather, only finally saw that maybe a year ago.

See Taxi Driver... It\'s fantastic.
My most favoritest movie of all time is The Shining.

How could I forget The Shining? I own it on VHS, DVD , Blu Ray and HD DVD. I friggin\' love that film.
Wait - we are talking about the Kubrick version and now that crap TV adapation that was more faithful to the book, right?
:D
/ even has The Shining ring tones.

I\'m a pretty huge fan Stanley Kubrick in general. The Shining, Clockwork Orange, Barry Lyndon, 2001, Full Metal Jacket, Spartacus, Dr Strangelove and many others. So many of his films i\'ve enjoyed seeing the first time and still hold my attention just as strongly upon repeat viewings.

Oooh, I recently watched 2001 in 70mm on one of the biggest screens in Scandinavia. It was fap-worthy. Although it was quite late in the night and I admit to dozing off a few times. I blame the late hour. :)

same here only opposite with those two movies. Theres a lot of movies like that that i should see, but i\'d really have to go out of my way to see them, and actually watch them. I\'ve had Raging Bull on my dvr for months and i\'ve never gotten around to watching it. I\'ve started it a few times but its usually at 1 in the morning and i fall asleep.
and im not decisive enough to list something as \'the best movie.\' havent seen enough to give me any credibility

Barry Lyndon is a movie only a snobby film student would like. I was bored to tears. Paths of Glory is one of his best and everyone should see it

This movie was pretty interesting. I just found out it was shot on a $6,000 Canon XL-H1 prosumer camera at a $50,000 budget! That\'s mighty impressive.

I like Michael Cimino films.
Thunderbolt and Lightfoot The Deer Hunter Heaven\'s Gate Year of the Dragon
But none of those are my absolute favorites.
Paths of Glory is definitely a favorite, along with some other Kubrick films like The Killing.
This may sound strange, but the 1960 best picture winner The Apartment is also one of my favorites. I\'m still not sure what I like so much about it. It\'s actually many different things, so I guess that\'s part of the appeal.
"Stay with it, buddy boy!!!" I still say that to people sometimes. :)

Finally saw the signal....and yeah..it\'s everything mm stated it would be...well i actually thought it was a little bit better than how mm desribed it...it slightly reminded me of the movie "pulse" with the transmissions and all, and the beginning definitely had that "WTF is going on?" factor with it...:D...only real knock against it was in certain scenes the soundtrack went into a comedic theme when to me it should\'ve took on a more serious horror theme soundtrack...still..it\'s a good weekend rental...

Watched it last night. Thought the start was great but could not understand the switch to humor at all. Really took me out of it. It is quite impressive tho considering the very limited budget.
