I think this will be a mistake....while i haven\'t played the game,..i think this title had some high production values and just because it didn\'t sell too well isn\'t a reason to cancel it. The game didn\'t do terribly bad, it just didn\'t sell well, and whatever problems the 1st game had i\'m sure there would have been improvements made if they were given the opportunity....oh well i\'m sure ms or ea is looking for another developer to snatch up....i think this one will come back to bite sony,...cause this game had the potential to be a decent franchise....this company also had a strong graphics engine.
While i do have somewhat of an idea of the gameplay,..i know that heavenly sword was no slouch in the graphics dept,...and these developers know what they\'re doin\' in that sense...

It isnt the only game canceled though. I was surprised to see 8 days and The Getaway canceled!
But for me 8 days was an even bigger loss. Some reports were saying that the game looked unbelievably good and it played like no other game. The concept of 8 days was extremely promising
-
And that\'s the thing...usually when a game gets cancelled, most times you can tell if it was going to be garbage or mediorce anyway....i was never into the getaway,..but i thought heavenly sword kind of proved itself, even tho it didn\'t do too well,...i also thought 8 days had potential, but all we ever saw with that game was that slick trailer,...i guess actual gameplay for it wasn\'t coming along smoothly.
-
Good riddens on all three accounts.
And not surprising in the least. Look at Mark of Kri - great game. Sequel kept getting delayed and ended up sucking. Now the franchise is dead. Same for Ape Escape, which rocked beyond belief.
-
Regarding 8 days there was some small preview from some site (cant remember which) and they said that it was incredible.

Because previews never lie?
Almost nine times out of ten, a preview is always glowing and then all of a sudden, the review comes out and the game sucks.
I\'m guessing if this game was so far in development and incredible, Sony wouldn\'t of canned it.

There are no real statistics regarding this.

The "preview" if "real" was very specific about the things that stood out
We do not know the exact details on the reasons why management decided to postpone their production. For now we rely on assumptions
There are many reasons that may lead to a cancellation of a project besides from a project that didnt go well.
Cost savings can be one, and these projects seemed very costly.
A second reason could be a change in strategy to target better other market segments
The second leads to an allocation of resources towards other positions/projects.
Or it could be a wrong decision.

While on the subject of cancelled games...
10 Highly Anticipated Videogames You\'ll Never Get To Play
http://www.cracked.com/article_16152_10-highly-anticipated-video-games-youll-never-get-play.html
I particularly agree with what they had to say about Project Hammer for the Wii
Before the Wii was released people had some rather unrealistic expectations of the system\'s "Wiimote" controller. Millions were disappointed when they realized it was simply a TV-remote shaped controller that can tell which direction you\'re waving it, not the freakin\' Holodeck.
Still, one thing the Wiimote definitely does well is letting you pummel things by swinging the controller like you\'re trying to chase away a swarm of hornets. So it\'s actually promising that Project HAMMER\'s premise, gameplay and storyline could be summed entirely as "swing the controller to smash shit with a giant hammer."
We\'re pretty sure that not only described the game, but succinctly sums up the entire reason the Wii should exist.

I hope Shenmue3 becomes a reality
-
I actually was hoping for that starcraft ghost game to come out...:(
-
I was hoping for Max Payne 3.
And Alan Wake seems to be going the route of vaporware also.

I think not. If I am not mistaken MS announced that they are going to show it at E3
-
See, that\'s what threw everything off..
If I remember right it WASN\'T at last years, so people got to talkin\'. ya know.
I can\'t find any info on Alan Wake at this year\'s E3.
-
Perhaps I was wrong then
-
*shrugs
well see i guess.
-
Better give a mega budget to team Ico. I am right.
Still, I highly enjoyed The Getaway 1.

i finally got around to borrowing heavenly sword from a friend.
it\'s definitly too short for 60 bucks (im almost done with it after 2 and a half days), but the voice acting has to be the best i\'ve ever heard in a game. that and the facial animations that bury even Mass effect made the game for me. plus the kai character in general is pretty cool.
the combat\'s pretty good. would\'ve liked more mix-up\'s in the shooting segments like the upside-down part
sucks that they won\'t be making a second one, but they did release a skimpy ass game, so im not too suprised not enough people bought it.
-
I kept hearing that this game was super short,....but i\'m still going to get it at some point,...maybe when it becomes a greatest hits or if i find it really cheap used, but i\'m not going outta my way to get it at the moment,..right now i\'m waitin\' for silent hill & dead space....i\'m still kinda shocked they cancelled the 2nd game....this game, at least from what i\'ve seen of it had high production values.
-
it did. Andy Serkis\'s character looks like Andy Serkis (helper dude from the prestige). half the game i swore the character looked familiar, then saw his face in the extras section and was like "ahhhhh". the more i think about it, the more i feel it had the best voice acting and facial animations bar-none
i heard target is selling it for 20 bucks on clearance, but that was in june/july..but just incase you go into one, it\'s definitly worth adding to the slim ps3 selection for 20 bucks

PS3 exclusive, bitches !

8 days, or whatever, if Sony think they are not worth it, they are cancelled and more resources go to games which are more worth it for Sony.
And generally they\'re not going to cancel a game which is shaping up very very good.
More resources to KillZone2, Ico project and Heavy Rain ;)
ps: Knotter8, I\'m really waiting for game-play trailers of Heavy Rain, looking beautiful, original and exciting, and characters look so impressive. (curious to see how Quantic Dream bring emotions of the characters during gameplay.)

For example, we discovered the importance of the work we\'re doing with facial animation, after [developing] the casting. We discovered how to capture that. I think we gained a lot by capturing the eyes of the actors, because suddenly, it was not keyframed. However good you are, it\'s always keyframed. You can see it\'s keyframed.
But here, it\'s captured, so you have all the micro movements, and it\'s incredible. We knew that from the start, but it was even more than we thought, how much goes through the eyes. It\'s really insane. The micro movements... the things you do when you talk, just moving your head a little bit... a lot goes through that. So we learned.
It\'s one thing to do a great cutscene, even if it\'s real time. It\'s another thing to try to tell the story as you play, so the story\'s not told through cutscenes -- it\'s told through gameplay. So you don\'t need acting performance in cutscenes. You need interactive performance.
Interesting reading.

Yeah...i\'ve been waiting for heavy rain since forever...i kinda actually forgot about it....the visuals are strong and since these cats are the same folks who made indigo prophecy, we should be in store for a quite interesting experience...:fro:

Wasn\'t there some like pussy eating stuff in that game? I mean, lesbo stuff. I mean, cool stuff.

New HR interview :

Storytelling there to STAY !!! Rooooaaarrr !
-
How about giving HR it\'s own thread Knotter?. This one just keeps reminding me we may not see a Heavenly Sword sequel :hissyfit:
Nothing is written in stone yet anyway. It\'s only been shelved, not canceled.
-
HR is very interesting. I\'m keeping my fingers crossed on this one. Finally a fresh product.
