Title: The future of Dubai
Post by: clips on June 26, 2008, 05:00:13 AM
Take a look at what Dubai is planning on doing with it\'s oil profits....alot of the designs are pretty radical,...but the buildings they plan to build are ultra sleek....and will put some of the american city skyline and others to shame...i was trying find to a really slick picture of a hotel that these guys built out in the ocean that currently exists in Dubai,...i mean the stuff they want to bulid,..looks like something out of a high tech sci-fi movie.....look thru all 4 pages to see what they plan to build,...one building they plan to make even rotates......really ambituous and impressive stuff...

Fockers got too much money, it\'s almost like they gave a class of kindergarteners AutoCad4Kids and told them to go apeshit.

I ve been in Dubai many times and I ve done some research on their economy.

Dubai\'s economy doesnt rely on oil. It diversified itself away from oil. Tourism is the primary driver of Dubai\'s economy and soon probably trade as well.

True story, but without oil it would have never happened.

Into some extend yes. It was their initial booster. Lets not forget that Dubai was just a desert some decades ago :)

But they have diversified away from oil for years. It is not something recent. Oil is more like a security. One which they know they will have to abandon. Dubai invests on alternative energy sources as well. They think long term, never myopic.

They have projects that will end in decades from now. They are unbelievable

I think that\'s why they\'re transforming their country into a massive vacation spot.

Does it really matter in 50 years? Their reserves only make up 6% of their income as it is now.

I just wonder if they can lease/sell all of that space they are creating. Thats going to be one helluva job.

I ve seen the construction areas, the palm islands and the most luxurious hotel in the world (the one that looks like a sailboat) :)

If you see them in real life it is even more impressive.

Their aerial railways are also very impressive looking. It goes through buildings, under bridges etc etc. They will be offering train services throughout Dubai to reduce traffic.

I ve also heard about a space park of some sorts where they will try to simulate in some areas lack of gravity. I am not sure how true that is though and how they will do it

I ve taken some pictures but unfortunately they are blurry

This is good. We\'ll need good places to abandon to when it finally hits the fan in the U.S., right?

he\'s on a 3 year contract, with an option to extend it after that time.

if he stays on for 10 years, he\'ll be rolling in money, his accomodation is dirt cheap too.

It is no longer a desert. It is hot there, but it is pretty fine
