If this is true, that\'s a major blow to Sony.
-
It\'s true, was in MS\'s E3 presser today
-
That is what happens when development prices are skyrocketing and you have a game that size of Final Fantasy. The days of third party developers is really nearing an end , at least for large games.
-
holy shit, this is awesome news! YES!

I dunno about that. Certainly the days of exclusivity are approaching the nadir. Third-Party developers will not be able to recoup the cost of labor pains when distribution is limited by thirds, and it\'s not feasible for console manufacturers to pay extravagant coin for exclusivity when the potential return from royalties diminishes along with costs. The only way to keep the current system afloat is to take it from the gamers by charging more for the games, but $60 is probably not too far from the upper limit that many will tolerate, and the higher prices for new games get, the likelier it gets that people will increasingly wait for used copies to circulate. Developers want to avoid this at all costs.
The times, they are a\'changin.
-
turn-based RPG\'s blow IMO...so, woopdidoo
-
lol TIME TO JUMP OFF THE BANDWAGON
Just like when RE4 came to Cube, Sony fanboys will cry on how outdated and irrelevant the franchise is.
Sigh. :)
-
Whelp..i was never a fan of series...the only FF game i ever liked was 7...but yeah it is a blow to sony,..at the very least they should\'ve had this game on lock for at least six months, and they didn\'t even pony up the money to do that....it seems the price of the ps3 has got sony so strained that they can\'t even hold on to exclusives anymore....oh well i knew that arrogance stance waaay back in the beginning when the ps3 first dropped, would come back to haunt them...
And what games do sony really have as exclusives?....drakes 2,..god of war3?...Siren....i\'m sure tekken is going to be jumpin\' ship soon too...and tho heavenly sword didn\'t sell as well as some expected,..i still think cancelling heavenly sword 2 was a mistake...all of the big game titles are hittin the 360.
And with rumors of a 360 price drop & sony stating that there will be no price drop anytime soon,...expect the 360 to pick up more sales with this annoucement....sony have been shooting themselves in tha foot with the ps3 from the jump....and it all started with that $600.00 price tag and them arrogantly thinking people would flaunt to it. if it wasn\'t for sony\'s other electronics & movies division providing captial,..i think the ps3 could be on the verge of it being their last console....
I\'m still a sony fan, but i knew the price and the lack of them gettin\' exclusives was going to hurt them....

the reason why the ps3 cost from $500 to $600 was mainly because of the Blu Ray Drive. Think of it an extra $200 just to have the drive built in the console. I am pretty sure many people would dig the PS3 for its blu ray movies playback beside gaming.
Also, many games can benefit from the extra space that Blu Ray disc offer. Say games like Metal Gear Solid 4, it will probably take 6 DVD discs if it\'s going to be on the XBOX360 console.
Maybe for now, not many games is going to take advantage of the space the blu ray offer, but in the future, we will start to see more and more games using the extra disc space.
Its just that many consumers are holding out for it to get cheaper. As for me, I don\'t mind waiting as I am not a heavy gamer. When Final Fantasy XIII finally comes out for PS3 which maybe next year, and by then I wouldn\'t be surprise if the PS3 had dropped it price tag, I would be sure to get one.
Speaking of FFXIII coming to 360, i wonder how many discs would an epic game like FFXIII going to fill up.

No.
-
with rumors of a 360 price drop
It for like the old 20gig PS3.. once all the old SKU are sold, MS will replace with a new SKU at the price before the drop.
-
No.
Do you use your PS3 to play BD movies too beside gaming? Also, is the PS3 your one and only BD player?
Even to this day, PS3 still has the fastest boot up and disc loading time than any stand-a-lone blu ray players out there. Newer BD players boot up and load time have improve, but still slow compare to PS3. Plus, some are more expensive than PS3.
I think PS3 does play a role in making BD the winning format over HD-DVD.
-
Do I want to play Blu-ray? Do I want to spend 600 dollars for a blu-ray player? Do I really want to start rebuilding my DVD collection in a different format? The PS3 might be the greatest Blu-ray player ever but that doesn\'t mean that people are going to buy it in droves.
People just aren\'t as willing to switch formats as easily as last time it seems. Blu-ray might be a selling point for the PS3 but its a bullet point thats pretty far down the list.
-
Square also confirm that the XBOX version will only be release EU / US with english language a few months after the initial japanese release.
Their official statement is that they want to reach as many customers as possible and with the huge installed base ox x360 in US, it was hard to pass it up.
IMO, we\'ll less and less exclusive from 3rd party, which isn\'t a bad thing.
-
you dont have to rebuild your collection in a new format? old movie aren\'t produced in HD, they are just remastered / upscaled. You can continue your collection with BR..
If you own the player and you have an HD set, you\'d be pretty stupid to keep buying DVD.

$600? The most expensive is $500 since last year E3 and the cheapest is $400 since late last year. You don\'t need to recollect movies in BD that you already own on DVD. You can get newer releases in BD format though. And there are probably some old movies that are in DVD format that you haven\'t own yet, you can collect that on BD format.
There are people getting the PS3 just to play BD movies and they don\'t care about gaming. The number might be small, but they are out there. The majority of people are doing the waiting game until the price drop down to as low as $300 or lower before getting one.
-
500, 600, doesn\'t matter, I honestly don\'t know a single person who bought the PS3 to play blu-ray.
-

Just because you don\'t know a single person getting a ps3 to play bd doesn\'t mean they don\'t exist. I know of an audiophile getting the 80 GB PS3 when it first came out at $600. He was born a generation before us and he isn\'t familiar with this 3-D generation of gaming and he just get the PS3 just for the BD playback. But of course, he is a rich person and $600 means almost nothing to him when he makes more than that in a day I believe. But again, those numbers are small though.
-
You realize you\'re arguing against your original statement right?
-
Anyway, eventually, when the PS3 gets cheaper, it should sell like hotcakes again. I think the 80 GB came out around May of last year, and in like 2 months later, the price was dropped to $500 and the 60 GB was discontinued.

I\'m not saying BR in PS3 is a bad thing but my point is :
Money, time & research which BR implementation cost Sony - in turn, us the consumers - could have been better put to use ;
- They should have had faster delivery & better development kits & libraries to PS3 developers.
- Perhaps a better GPU in PS3 than the humble RSX - which is basically a pumped up GF7800 GT.
- again, better development tools for devs -> which can make them more willing to stay exclusive to Sony.
- Faster settlement of the Immersion/ Rumble feedback courtcase ; would have been a faster day of light for DS3.

no
it never took off and never will
ps3=worst selling console of this generation, would bet my life on it
-
Only because its so expensive.
-
What\'s a good price point for the ps3... $300?
It\'ll eventually get there as the cost of materials goes down. The big question on everyone\'s minds is whether or not you have electricity to turn it on.
-
500, 600, doesn\'t matter, I honestly don\'t know a single person who bought the PS3 to play blu-ray.
I do. I was surprised to find my uncle Michael, almost 65 and never owned a game console in his life, owned a PS3 when last I visited. His collection consisted entirely of blu-ray movies. My father\'s considering one for the same reason.
With the standalone BR players still so expensive, I\'ve heard several people consider the PS3 either mostly or exclusively to play movies in high-def.
-
Having a Blu-Ray player was a huge factor in my decision to get a PS3.
-
same here. I knew i wasn\'t going to be stacking up on games any time soon. outside of resistance 2 and maybe little big planet (if there arent a grip-load of levels made by the makers, i won\'t buy it), there\'s not much to buy this year for me. Only other for-sure buy is killzone 2..the rest im seeing what people\'s reactions are
MAG looks like itll be a huge game to own for the ps3, but going by their claims, it\'s going to be a long time before it gets released
-
I wipe my ass with final fantasy games, thats how shitty I feel about them :)
-
you can say that about later final fantasy games, but not to FFVII though. FF Tactics is awesome too btw. I think FF8 is the weakest FF in the series.
-
you either love or hate FF8. I though it was pretty impressive. The draw system felt like a grinding machine but when you knew the right places to go, you can do it fast.
American FF3 (remade to DS out soon!) is my favorite. FF7 come 2nd, and FF8 come 3rd. hated FF9.
I would see this whole FF thing real bad if it had gone excluside to MS... but since I\'ll be able to own my copy for PS3, then I am not woried.
-
i never play FF9 so I don\'t know, I was so disappointed with FF8 that i skipped FF9, and got FFX when it came out for PS2 with pretty graphic and voice acting, and other changes.
-
well, I\'ll stay tuned to know the "truth"...but I found this :
When Microsoft revealed yesterday that Final Fantasy XIII was coming to Xbox 360, they were only telling half the story. At a Q&A session with Square Enix after the press conference, we learned the truth.
The Japanese developer won’t even begin working on the Xbox 360 version until the PS3 version is finished. The Square Enix representatives were frank on this point: porting the game will take a long time. And after it’s ported, it’ll still have to be localised.
Realistically, that’ll mean a gap of around a year between the two — and the PS3 version is still a long, long way off. There is little hope for FFXIII landing on the 360 this side of 2010.
This whole venture is a last-minute development; the decision to port to 360 was only made a few days ago.
Another aspect of the FFXIII development process that’s been largely overlooked is that Square Enix already has the game running on PC. They have yet to decide whether they’ll release it on that format, however. They may just be using it as a development environment at this stage.
Another factor to consider: FFXIII is being created for PS3 with Crystal Tools (formerly known as The White Engine), Square Enix’s proprietary technology for PS3 development. A whole new engine may be needed to get the game working on the 360.
http://www.gameplayer.com.au/gp_documents/080716-FFXIII.aspx?catid=News
just curious to see how the port will be on the X360, without the Blu-Ray player and built-in HD...
-
Interesting.
Looks like they didn\'t plan for this at all. Probably were just pressured into it last minute before E3.
-
So, it was optimized on the PS3\'s engine first, then ported to xbox360. That means the PS3 Blu Ray\'s version should be better than the xbox360 DVD\'s version.
for those that want to get the 360\'s version means they have to wait an extra year or longer.
Cool. Either way, I would get the PS3\'s Blu Ray FFXIII version.
-
that article is loads of speculation
ign has this interview http://ps3.ign.com/articles/890/890359p1.html
which had this to say:
The Xbox 360 iteration is a port of the PS3 build, but Square was quick to point out that you can\'t say this will cause a delay of the PS3 release in America. Separate teams are working on the two versions and both are moving along on schedule. There shouldn\'t be a delay in any releases.
-
doesn\'t really deny that the 360 release will be a long time from now. just that the ps3\'s release wont be affected.
All this stuff is bs anyway. like, why do ps3 people care if 360 people get the game? is it stopping them from playing it? and 360 people bragging about it is just as stupid. i guess people just annoy the shit outta me
-
So it looks like a simultaneous, multi system launch. If that\'s the case, I might be interested in FF13 for the 360. I don\'t own a PS3 and haven\'t played a Final Fantasy game... ever.
Well, not true I got through like 20 minutes of the god awful Crystal Chronicles for GameCube before putting away all the connector cables and GameBoys...
So far, the only things I\'m missing from the PS3 lineup are MGS and Blu Ray. I think the Blu Ray playback is a huge selling point.

exactly Viper; the only thing I care about is that FFXIII is developed first on PS3, finished on PS3 and then ported...devs are using most of the PS3 resources, and they\'re not limited by the lowest hardware.
PS3 users will play the game, XBox users will play the game and everybody will be happy. And SE will get more money. How to blame them.
And :
Square Enix talks FF Versus XIII PS3 exclusivity
Following the shocking news of Final Fantasy XIII going multiplatform, Square Enix has taken the opportunity to address its plans in regards to keeping Final Fantasy Versus XIII exclusive to the PlayStation 3.
In an interview with Square Enix Executive Shinji Hashimoto, it was revealed that not only will the game remain a PS3 exclusive, but game director Tetsuya Nomura (Parasite Eve and Final Fantasy VII) is developing another game outside of Versus called "One Goal Spirit."
"We won\'t change policy," said Hashimoto. "Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still a PlayStaion 3 exclusive."
Hashimoto also revealed that due to Nomura putting all his time and resources into Final Fantasy XIII, Noruma won\'t be able to devote much into "One Goal Spirit" as of yet.
http://www.psu.com/Square-Enix-talks-FF-Versus-XIII-PS3-exclusivity-News--a0004226-p0.php
eh eh, how to believe any other "it\'s still exclusive" from SE.
It depends how well FFXIII will sell on the X360, it\'s just PS3 exclusive today! we\'ll see.
And I don\'t care, I just want to play great games.
-
well that certainly blows monkey balls. I have both consoles, but I just don\'t really like the 360. It was the first console I bought, but after getting the ps3 I haven\'t bought a single game for the 360 unless it was an exclusive. There\'s something sexy about the ps3 gaming experience, even with the same exact games. I guess it\'s like a Corvette and a Ferrari, both have similar numbers on paper, one costs more but the difference in experience is something that can\'t be explained but is definitely there. Or at least for me.
-
well the reason that many many ps3 people are upset is because lets face it - FF is a system selling series. With the title for 360, less ps3 units will sale and less of the ps3 titles will sale. Therefore the user base will still be considered too low for people and devs will shy away from it just like SE a huge company is doing atm. Imagine how the companies with the smaller pockets look at it.
really i can care less what games are on both systems as long as the games i want come to the system i have. which if star ocean 4 gets 360 exclusive i will be upset -_-
-

Liar.
Proof or it didn\'t happen.

I\'m the opposite right now. then again i just got the ps3 a month ago. but one thing is for sure..the X button is really f-ing me up when i switch from ps3 to 360 or vice versa
-
the ps3 games probably have faster load time than the xbox360 because 2x BD disc load faster for most area of the disc than xbox360 DVD discs.
-
i havent had a problem with load times in a long time. any reason you\'re so adament about the ps3 being better (especially bringing up random stuff that has nothing to do with anything in the thread) or are you in those list of people who annoy the shit out of me already discussed?
-
i was just responding to theomen saying why he thinks ps3 is better.
-
I\'d just like to point out that I have always said Square is over-rated and their two finest franchise they let die (Parasite Eve & Tobal No 1).
-
I liked Vagrant Story. That\'s about it post Chrono Trigger/Mario RPG.
-
Yeah i agree with Parasite Eve...i don\'t know why they haven\'t created a new game for that franchise...i also liked vagrant story,..but i couldn\'t finish it...there was a part with a huge dragon that i just could not defeat....good game tho...
-
I\'d just like to point out that I have always said Square is over-rated and their two finest franchise they let die (Parasite Eve & Tobal No 1).
I\'d like you to ammend that last part with Tobal No.2
I paid $80 for that fucker. My upside down modded PSX still plays that game. I love it.
-
yea friend and i played heck out of tobal 2 with our psps good stuff
Einhander was good game as well
-
I had some great times on my psx...even tho i went thru like 3 of \'em due to the system not playing the disks...my fav\'s
Battle Arena Toshiden
"D"..the slowest moving game eva
RE 1 & 2
TEkken
Ridge Racer
Gameday
Fear Effect
Parasite Eve
Silent Hill
-
"D" was a classic 3DO game, damnit. You couldn\'t even pause the game. You sat down and you finished it. Great game. I remember when "D2" was the hype for the 3DO M2, but it eventually got killed and "D2" was later released as four GD-ROMS on the Dreamcast. It had a lot of "new" features such as having to hunt for food to survive, but damn did that game suck. I\'m doubting anyone else on this forum bothered to purchase it, never the less finish it, so I\'ll sum it up. You fight a giant vagina (no joke) at at one point, the screen goes black and you have to fight by using audio clues (Warp Entertainment was big on wanting to make games audio based).
http://www.gamespot.com/dreamcast/adventure/d2/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary;review
Battle Arena Toshiden was gorgeous for it\'s time. I remember all the rave reviews and I remember the whole ad with Sophia. The game itself was severely lacking, but that never stopped me from buying the first three of \'em.
RE 1 & R are automatic classics.
Tekken was over rated. Tekken 2 on the other hand was brilliant.
Ridge Racer will always be my favorite racing series.
Gameday - I remember countless battles of that with my father. It\'s a shame that the franchise ended up being total shit.
Parasite Eve 1 & 2 are great games that Square let die. :(
Silent Hill. Loved the first, but never bothered with the rest.
You however forgot Ape Escape which in my opinion, almost defines the PSX.
-
i loved gameday too..all my madden friends ridiculed me for playing it
but the PSX was my first console (nintendo and super nes were my brothers, so i just played the games he bought), so i didnt know what games were "must-have\'s" and what-not
but the main ones i played were:
Need for speed 2
Crash bandicoot
Abe\'s Oddessey
Jet Moto
Tekken 1 and 2
Gex
Twisted Metal 2
Resident Evil and Metal gear were too much for me,haha. sucked balls at both of them
-
...my first console was Intellivision, I cannot forget it, I cannot forget Bean Rider, Advanced dangeons and dragons, the Soccer game, Tennis, Golf, Sea battle, Space battle, Burger time, Happy Trial, Lock&Chase, Triple Action, Auto Racing ! ...why o why every time I do this and then I cry :)
And for PSX I loved RE1, Ridge Racer, Tekken, Tekken2 and 3, Destruction Derby, Crash1,2 and 3, GT, Ape Escape, Final Fantasy VII, Need for Speed.
-
I never had a PlayStation 1. During that gaming era I only had my N64 & 3DFX voodoo PC, enjoying games like GoldenEye & Scorched Planet.
