By far the best comic book movie ever IMO. I loved almost every second of it, and Heath Ledger was amazing. I don\'t think the Joker could have been done any better.
SPOILERS VVVVVVVVV
The one thing that confused me a little. At the end, is Harvey dead? The scene with the Commish seemed to be a funeral service or something of the sort which would mean Harvey is dead. Which I most certainly hope he is not. If he is dead then wouldn\'t Batman have killed him? And wasn\'t Batman refusing to kill the joker throughout the movie? So if Batman killed Harvey at the end than wouldn\'t the whole idea of Batman be sort of.....ruined? But they didn\'t really make it clear so I\'m hoping they keep Harvey alive. And also....what the hell was the point of the scarecrow in the 10 second scene he had. The only purpose it served for the rest of the movie was that Batman had to get a new outfit.

Harvey is dead. Batman took the blame for all the bad Harvey done, for a few reasons.
1: So the Joker would not win. The Joker took the purest of people, at least i n the eyes of Gotham and brought him down to their level. That was his plan.
2: Bruce earlier in the film said Gotham needed a face and Harvey was that face. If he allows Harvey to take the blame for those murders he done as Two-Face, then that causes Gotham to give up all hope in mankind. By taking the blame, Bruce / Batman was doing the most heroic thing. He was willing to be the outcast, to preserve Harvey\'s legacy.

As of now its ranked 4th on IMDB for best all time movies. I don\'t know if it was THAT good, but it was definitely a great movie. For a comic book movie, I think it did the best job it possibly could have. But given its genre, 4th all time seems like quite the stretch.

Given it\'s genre? I\'m not quite sure I understand. Are you saying, that because a movie is based on a comic book, it can\'t achieve greatness? Or that it should not be allowed in the top ten? Seriously, please explain this logic.
The genre or source material does not matter. A great movie is a great movie. Period.

All I meant by that is that its much more difficult to make a comic book movie which is deep and meaningful or changes how movies are done and such. When I think of the BEST movies I think of movies that take on a difficult issue, or introduce new things into the movie industry. Don\'t get me wrong, I loved the movie, I just don\'t think it should be 4th on that list.

Yet you have no reason other than the fact that the original source material is a comic book.
And as for the IMDB list - this happens all the time. A popular movie receives a lot of votes early on, sky rockets to the top and slowly comes back down.

Not even in the same league. Nicholson played Nicholson with make up. Honestly, that is the way he was portrayed in Burton\'s film. This one is on a different level. He\'s crazy, he\'s funny and he is also scary. Any time he is on the screen, you want to laugh, but at the same time, he does some brutal stuff that truly puts him up there on a demented level.
If anything, Nolan and Ledger both proved you don\'t need elaborate special effects to make a villain. The makeup effects are extremely simple (it is reported Ledger actually came up with the design himself) and yet you still never see Ledger underneath the makeup. He loses himself in the role and so does the viewer.
I also have to say, that while Ledger is getting all the attention, Eckhart should most certainly be considered for best supporting actor, as he done a great job portraying Harvey Dent and his downward spiral into madness.

I just got back from Dark Knight and some douchebag behind me kept kicking my chair. It was really annoying. I love going to theaters, just not when there are assholes there. No one talked during it though.
Heath Ledger put on one hell of a performance. I couldn\'t even tell it was him. You can tell he really put his heart and soul into that movie.
*spoiler*The only thing I didn\'t like was at the end when they left the Joker dangling on the building still alive. After Ledger died, I really think they should have had him fall to his death like in the Batman movie. It seems like they have the Jokers fate up in the air and it will be very difficult to solve in the next movie and I wonder how they will do it.*end spoiler*

You can\'t kill him. It ruins the whole "we are destined to do this forever" idea. Not to mention it was enough that they killed Two Face.
Title: The Dark knight.
Post by: shockwaves on July 19, 2008, 09:03:57 AM
Was Two-Face actually dead? I thought they purposely left that ambiguous. He fell, but he fell from a distance that Batman immediately survived from, so it\'s perfectly realistic he could have survived too. I thought the funeral was just an attempt to cover up what he\'d become. I wouldn\'t be surprised if they made another movie to find him in Arkham or something.
That said, I thought the movie was pretty incredible. I don\'t know how the Joker could possibly be played better.

Warner Bros. Pictures\' The Dark Knight has earned $155.34 million to top Spider-Man 3 for best opening weekend at the box office. The weekend estimates show Christopher Nolan\'s Batman Begins follow-up more than $4 million ahead of the $151.1 million first weekend for Spider-Man 3 in May of 2007. The Dark Knight has also broken Spider-Man 3\'s record ($4.7 million) for best debut in IMAX theaters with $6.2 million in 94 locations.

This movie was great. I\'m glad they went with a REAL city scene.
Highlight :
The city was real. The opening scene was like a clip out of "Heat" in that robbery scene. No fucking ghey ass CGI bull shit. Thank you Nolan for using real stunts and a real scene.
The mafia and gangs in this movie were so real, they could have had their own movie. In fact, this movie was almost like Good Fellas movie where the character got bumped over by the Joker and Batman.
Joker\'s pencil trick was the funniest little evil stunt that will be forever be gif\'d. Don\'t mess with the Joker.
Sorry, Jack Nicholson. You made the 1989 Batman great. But Heath was just beyond most people\'s expectations.

Get back to me when you have kids. Then I\'ll take this uneducated and purely idiotic comment to heart. I gurantee your parents sheltered you to a degree. It\'s the only proper thing to do. You don\'t want to put your young child in a situation where it may cause them nightmares or something else. It\'s just common sense.
As Luke said , it\'s obvious that this movie would of prepared the children for a real world situation.
Quit being so damn stupid.
Title: The Dark knight.
Post by: Evi on July 22, 2008, 01:21:08 AM
LOL... thanks for taking that out of context. To what extent do you think I meant not sheltering your children? You sure did gather a lot from from such a short sentence. And I do blame myself for being vague and I apologize. Of course parents need to shelter their children to some degree, that\'s a given, and it varies depending on their age. My parents didn\'t shelter me from every little thing, but my cousin... her parents sheltered her for her entire life. She\'s afraid to go see PG-13 movies now and she\'s 19. Her dad literally spoke evil of the world and sheltered her from every little thing. She\'s stuck to watching Finding Nemo or she has nightmares because she\'s never even seen anything bad her entire life. I know that\'s probably an extreme case, but we do eventually need to be exposed to certain things because the world isn\'t such a bright and happy place all the time and if your kids grow up having never seen anything it\'s going to come as a huge shock to them and they\'re gonna be lost and not know what to do. Some things in life can\'t be taught and they obviously have to be experienced, but too many parents these days are throwing their hands up and getting upset over things that really aren\'t so bad. Like... parents petitioning to get Harry Potter books banned from schools.
It\'s a shame that we learn most of what we know of the world not from our parents, but by going through school and experiencing all of life\'s bullshit by ourselves. Our parents never taught us about a lot of things that probably would\'ve been better had it come from them since we look up to them our entire lives. Our parents shape us and mold us into who we are until such time that we grow up and get old enough to start evaluating... asking questions... and coming to our own conclusions about the world. I just think parents these days go a little overboard with the overly protective sheltering.
And quit acting like you know all about the world because you had some kids. You\'re not exactly a seasoned parent and you still act like you have a stick up your ass all the time and you always assume all this shit about me. You\'ve never met me in person. And I\'ve never met you. Perhaps this is your online persona, I don\'t know. I\'m certainly not the same online as I am in person and I know in your head as you read this you\'re probably thinking "thank god". But you\'ll never ever give me the chance to really express to you what kind of person I really am. I like you, man. I always have. But you gotta give me a fucking break one of these days. I think we could get along if you stopped being such a negative prick.

Saw it opening night at the drive in. Will definatley be seeing it again in a normal theater because the lights from the near by city were really bright and made the picture quality quite dim on the drive in screen so a lot of it was hard to see.
Didn\'t miss anything but it felt like watching a downloaded movie with grainy quality.
None the less, I thought it was fantastic. I think Heath Ledger\'s performance really hit me during the second telling of how he got his scars. Really talented guy and the oscar buzz I think is highly deserved, not just because he is dead.
I love the relationship between Alfred and Bruce, Michael Caine adds so much to the film as does Morgan Freeman. But The Joker definatley steals the show, the little twitches, the voice, the laugh, all perfect and it didn\'t feel like a Superhero movie to me.
Also...Christian Bales mother had it coming. Fuckin with the dark knight, silly bitch.

i swear when dent and rachel were kidnapped, gordon asked batman where he was going to go..he said "rachel" and gordon said he would go for dent (at least i think)..but it ended up being the other way around. Did i mishear that or did they mess up?
Title: The Dark knight.
Post by: Living-In-Clip on July 24, 2008, 03:25:49 AM
Uhm...
It\'s kinda obvious what happened.
The Joker switched the addresses. It was a "joke". You know? The Joker knew that Batman had feelings towards Rachel, he even told Batman he knew it. So, he could easily predict, that Batman being human, would go to rescue the girl he cares about over Dent. So, by switching the addresses, he allowed Batman to , in a not direct way, be responsible for Rachel\'s death.
Look at it this way. Weigh the two people. Who is more important? Dent or Rachel? Dent, he is the upcoming D.A . So, in hindsight, Batman should of rushed for him first, but he was in love with Rachel and it was obvious to the Joker. So - what\'s the best thing to do? Make it so because of Batman she died.

Well, I gave up my Ledger avatar due to some dumb ass trying to copy my style.
As for Robin - it simply will not work in the movies. There is no way you can make that character believable. Then again, I really don\'t expect Nolan and the crew to be back for a third one.

me either. I\'d rather have him move on anyway and make more prestige\'s and memento\'s. I need to see his other 2 movies

I always thought Bale\'s Batman voice was kinda silly, and forced. I\'m glad someone else noticed too.

It\'s just such a gimmick. I mean, I really enjoyed it the first time, but after that I can\'t bring myself to watch it again. So, maybe I should rephrase.
Memento was good, but much like The Sixth Sense, the gimmick at the end ruins repeat watchings.

when i first saw batman begins, it distracted me so much that i didnt like him as batman. especially the scene when he lifts the crooked cop guy that was at the drug shipping in the air to interrogate him.
but i got used to it after watching it a bunch of times

I happened to see this film today at the Arclight Hollywood. They had a couple of Batman vehicles parked in front of the entrance, similar to what they did when they were running Transformers.
I didn\'t have my 40D or even my crappy Sony pocket camera with me, so I had to use my cell phone camera. Here are a couple images.

^ I ain\'t reading all that. That\'s a Unic size reply.
I wouldn\'t take my 9 year nephew to see this. It\'s a dark, sadistic, voilent movie. Batman is no hero in this version. He\'s a thug who preys on thugs.
I\'ll take him to watch Superman or Spiderman or even X-Men. But Batman is for older kids.
I won\'t take Logan to see this movie as much as I want to. the Joker will give him bad dreams for a long time. I\'m no puss with him either. We watched Lord of the rings trilogy together two years ago. He saw spiderman when he was 3. This is just a nightmarish movie for kids and I don\'t want him walking in on a midnight knobjob if ya know what i mean.

I know what you mean, it was quite annoying.
even when there was only batman and one other person in the room (morgan freeman (whos character knew batmans real identity)), he still put the voice on
why????
Title: The Dark knight.
Post by: videoholic on July 27, 2008, 11:47:54 AM
I noticed that too and found it annoying. I understand that he needs to disguise his voice, but why wouldn\'t people be like, "Dude, you need to stop smoking."

Post by: Blade on July 27, 2008, 02:00:53 PM
Because when he assumes the cape and cowl, he becomes Batman. The voice is part of the persona.
You have to remember that he still newly Batman, even in The Dark Knight. Most Batman stories take place when Bruce is around 40.
So... he hasn\'t mastered using a fake voice yet. :)
As for this movie, it\'s amazing (I\'ve now seen it twice) but there were just waaay too many young children at each showing. Such a dark movie.

SPOILERS
I didnt think it was that obvious. mainly because gordon said he was to blame for rachel\'s death. and batman blaming himself, i felt, was just that her association with him is what killed her, not the actual moment of going to the wrong place. had she died at any moment, batman wouldve been blaming himself even if there was nothing he could do about it (which was pretty much the case).
the joker switching the address definitly makes more sense than such a huge editing mistake, but i would think it was because he wanted dent alive, hence sending batman instead of the police/gordon to him. but joker also said he lives in the moment and doesn\'t plan so who knows.
just didnt think it was that clear that joker switched the addresses for the reasons u said

I think it was more sarcasm then anything. Remember, its not meant to be predictable. There is no plan other then chaos.
He switched the addresses, it makes perfect sense to his persona.
Title: The Dark knight.
Post by: Knotter8 on July 28, 2008, 02:54:02 AM
Yeah sure, but most people \'plan\' in pragmatic ways as well. \' If plan A doesn\'t work then ....\'
So i\'d say usual people are not that different from Joker either, albeit having a different goal.
Indeed, Chaos is ambiguous... but if you think about it, many people\'s life goal is pretty ambiguous as well ; insert religion for the ones who can\'t stand to have to figure it all out by themselves.

saw it on saturday thought is was fantastic but didnt really appreciate how good it was till after i got home felt the cell phone thing was kinda lame the scene at the hospital makes the whole movie or at least where you see leger at his best. the look on his face when its just him and dent and when he gets frustrated when he\'s trying set the bombs off was great

I also saw it this weekend finally.
Loved it (of course) but really The Joker was the whole movie for me. When the movie went too long without a Joker scene I just got kinda bored. I guess bored isnt the right word but I\'m sure you guys know what I mean. Ledger as the joker WAS the movie. He was amazing.

My wife and I went out to eat downtown last year at this restaurant... One of our favorites.
http://www.berghoff.com/
One of the restaurant scenes with the mob was shot in there.
Ironically enough after we finished our dinner there we were walking back to the train station and got to watch some of the filming. It was late at night and they had one of the main streets downtown shut down. From seeing the movie I\'m almost positive it was the scene with the flipping semi. Not that exact part cause there was no semi truck around but part of that scene. The crowd made it so I couldn\'t see too much.
There were entire websites dedicated to following the filming around here.
That same night me and the wife watched the filming Fox News posted this video they took. Woulda been so cool too see. I coulda hung out there and watched for hours but we had a train to catch... Last one of the night :(

Ok all the fuckin batman freaks can finally be right. This was the best comic book movie I\'ve seen. I was not all the hype that he did such a good job as joker like everyone was kissing his ass; but he fucking killed that role. I am going to go see it again. 5 stars!!!!!

Rumors floating around that Johnny Depp will play The Riddler. Which I think is cool, even tho its just a rumor.
Weirdest one i\'ve heard tho is that Nolan is looking into Cher to play catwoman.
Ahh well, all just speculation at this point. But I remember when Heath Ledger was confirmed as the Joker and people made a fuss about \'the gay cowboy\' playing the Joker. Look how well that turned out.

ever since i got heath as wrong as possible, i\'ve kept getting bad impressions of castings in certain movies..but cher? i\'d need to see a video of nolan actually saying those words.
The best casting idea/rumor i\'ve heard for the next batman is philip seymour hoffman as the penguin. depp as the riddler would work just as well.

I\'ve heard all three of these as well, but do you really think they are putting all three of these characters in the next movie? I\'d have to say at least one of these is bogus. I mean how could you be looking at Cher for catwoman if that\'s not even in the next episode?
Title: The Dark knight.
Post by: Joker on August 27, 2008, 08:00:37 PM
Yeah I honestly don\'t think the Cher one is even true. Just thought it was worth mentioning, because it was one of the most oddball choices out there when you think of Catwoman.
I think Christopher Nolan is taking a well earned little break right now before diving right back into the craziness this franchise has become.
Plus Bale is busy bitch slapping his family at the moment.
