Post by: Paul2 on August 31, 2008, 03:22:20 AM
the new 80 GB PS3 is now only $399.99.  Its has the same features as the older 40 Gbytes PS3 except with twice the storage capacity HDD.

There\'s only 1 2.5" (laptop-size) 40gb on Newegg whereas there are 11 80gb harddrives on Newegg.  At this point it\'s probably cheaper for them to choose 80gb over 40gb.

Out of curiosity is it backwards compatible with PS2 games?

probably not.  the older 80 GB probably has the backward compatibility.  the newer one doesn\'t, and it probably doesn\'t have memory card readers in it either to cut cost.

But I can\'t be sure.

I\'ve read many theories that Sony is currently develloping a new PS2 emulator, 100% software. They are making a lot of money with PSone classics and PSN Title digital downloads and are trying to bring the huge PS2 librairies available.  This would also make sense because a PS2 software would work for future console.

Sony as denied the rumors however.

80gig 399$ PS3 is a kickass deal.
